About this property

Tranquil Mountain Cottage (Wheelchair Accessible)

Surrounded by beautiful farmland, plan your vacation at this cottage fifteen minutes from downtown Asheville. This two bedroom/two bathroom house was built to accommodate people with disabilities. Even if you don't need the additional support, this home is a lovely place to rest, relax and rejuvenate. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, this cottage lies in a family estate that spans 17 acres. You will be amazed by the sounds of a small family farm (chickens, goats, and turkeys) and astonished by the nightly firefly/star-filled sky. Meanwhile, there are many attractions, like hiking and waterfalls, kayaking or tubing, skiing or snowboarding, or the Biltmore estate, or city life in Asheville, all so close by. Guests will have space and privacy, but the host is nearby should a need arise.
A special bonus is a nursery with full-sized crib in one of the huge walk-in closets. The kitchen is fully equipped, as well as having a washer/dryer room. WiFi is provided with a smart TV and DVD player. For added pleasure, there is a large selection of books, puzzles, movies, and games. Enjoy walks in the quiet neighborhood when not exploring the many, many attractions in nearby Asheville, Maggie's Valley, Blue Ridge Parkway, Pisgah National Forest, and more. In the cooler months, curl up next to the fireplace and relax. In the warmer months, enjoy both a covered front and a back porch with seating.
Accommodations include two queen beds plus a queen futon for extra sleeping. Linens and towels are included for convenience.
This Tranquil Mountain Cottage is truly a neat, comfortable and relaxing home close to so many other adventures.

It was a property that was excellent for handicapped accessible people. When the electricity went out due to a storm, Elaine came over and brought lights that were battery powered.

Perfect spot to stay while visiting Biltmore!

Our family with 3 adults and 3 young children had a comfortable stay! Loved wandering the farm afterward. Kitchen was well-appointed, and whole house was spotless. Many thanks!

Location was wonderful

we came for the blue ridge classic horse show, my daughter was showing her horse. Perfect location about 21 minutes to get there. House was nice and cozy and our dogs loved the backyard and morning walks to see the horses and cow.

Quiet country place

Clean, well stocked house in a country setting. Close to Asheville. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. Doc Browns restaurant nearby has good barbecue. Would stay again.

Cozy cottage

We had a lovely stay at this little cottage. It accommodated my family of 6 very comfortably, and the nursery room with a crib was a very nice touch. My kids loved seeing the animals in the fields and running around in the yard. It was a wonderful trip!

We weren’t at the house very much but it was a nice house in a very pretty area. I walked out in the morning and there were 6 deer in the field.

Asheville weekend

Great price and location for a short weekend trip. Older house but it provided all of our needs and worked for our family. Not too far from grocery or other needs and a short drive to Asheville.

Comfortable and clean

We have stayed at this property twice - in a quiet and friendly neighborhood, close to whatever you would like to do in Asheville. House is perfect for a family. House is clean, well provisioned, and owner is thoughtful and responsive. We enjoyed the fireplace and having our own rooms and bathrooms, and also liked that we could bring our dog with us.

Comfortable Country Home

The house was clean, well-stocked and very comfortable. We immediately felt at home! The views of the pastures and the peaceful setting were wonderful. Elaine immediately replied to any questions that I texted or emailed. The location is very convenient to the blue ridge parkway as well as downtown Asheville.

Lovely

My husband, mom, dog, and I stayed two nights over Mother's Day weekend. We are so glad to have found this affordable, comfortable and convenient, pet friendly, and accessible cottage. Our rescue dog is reactive, so staying in a hotel can be stressful. This tranquil location was just perfect for him; and my elderly mother appreciated the accessible features.

Wonderful!!

The location is a little off the beaten path, but so worth it! Beautiful pastoral view and perfect little place in the country. I reached out to the host several days before staying to let her know I had sensitivities to fragrances, and she ensured that very little if any were used prior to our arrival. It made my stay so nice! Thank you and we would have loved to have stayed longer!!

Loved the location

Loved this location and house. The only reason I gave this location 4 stars was the dog that would come from across the street. It was difficult to sit in the rocking chairs on the front porch or go in the front yard. The dog seemed friendly but would scare my little 10lb dog. Otherwise, lovely location and very clean house.

Felt like home

We've stayed at several different rental properties in the Asheville area, and this is easily one of our favorites - it feels like staying at the home of a friend, not a hotel or a condo. If you want cookie-cutter, recently-flipped amd all-grey color scheme, this place is NOT for you. If you're looking for quiet comfort, a HOME with character, and a short easy drive to any necessity, then this is your spot! (If I could add anything to my wishlist, it would be a few additional pots and pans and cooking equipment, but who goes to Asheville to eat at home, you might ask!)

Long weekend getaway!

The property was exactly as shown on the VRBO site. We got in later than expected and Elaine was so nice and came over to help us get into lock box. My husband is in a wheelchair and this home was very accessible for him. The accessible shower was perfect. We had difficulty with space around commode but was able to work around. Thank you Elaine for sharing your lovely home. We highly recommend this home for people with mobility issues!

Great getaway

We were planning a visit to Asheville, and we needed to find a property that would work well for my mom who relies heavily on a wheelchair, had at least two bedrooms and two baths, and was also dog friendly. Luckily we found this cottage quickly! If it had nothing else going for it, we would have been happy with just the fact that there was a ramp to the front door, a roll-in shower, and grab bars in both bathrooms. However, this house had a nice assortment of items to help make the stay more pleasant. There was a good supply of plates, glasses, etc. in the kitchen, a few games and puzzles, a good selection of dvds, enough blankets for everyone, and great WiFi. Plus, the neighbors were so friendly and the barnyard animals were a joy to see! Oh, and the distance to Asheville was great! We really could not have asked for more. The house is a bit outdated, but the price is very fair considering that. The only thing that didn’t get relayed from the description or photos is the proximity of other houses—there are a number of houses nearby. If you are looking for seclusion, this might not be for you; however, it was not an issue for us as the neighborhood was very quite. For reference, our party consisted of four adults and one dog. We ate most of our meals out so we didn’t use the kitchen much, and we also didn’t take advantage of the fire pit or fireplace although firewood was plentiful.

A wonderul family time

From the start of booking, until i left the property I have had nothing but a wonderful experience with Elaine. I was also able to meet one of her children as well and she was also super nice. The home is old fashioned and truly being on the farm was a nice step away from the hectic lifestyle I left in the city. From walking in peace and quiet to rocking on the front porch watching it storm and hearing the rain, the sun come up and go down, waving and chatting with the occasional neighbor etc, it was truly a step into the old southern way and my family and I enjoyed it immensely. We will 100 percent book again here. To Elaine and her family, thanks again for opening your home to me, Cow and my parents! T. Star Eades

Loved this VRBO, when you first walk in there’s a little sign saying Nana’s House, and it feels just like you are staying with family. Everything we needed was right there. It is such a quiet area, in the country. Felt safe and like home. Will definitely stay again if we do the dog show here next year.
