About the host
Hosted by Jim Heglund
Jim Heglund and Emily Pantlind Heglund live in Rockford (Cannonsburg area), Michigan, with their 2 dogs, Blaze and Glory and they all appreciate warm weather and the natural beauty of the home and island!
Jim was raised in Ludington, Michigan and graduated from Michigan State University. He is retired from the company he owned and was president of REALICO, Inc. that specializes in condominium management, marina management, and commercial real estate in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He continues to work as an excellant realtor in Grand Rapids, Michigan for JH - Reality Partners. Jim has 3 grown children and 5 grandchildren. He is a Master Taekwondo Instructor and teaches youth Taekwondo at the local YMCA.
Emily is from East Grand Rapids, Michigan. Her Great Grandfather built and operated the Pantlind Hotel which is now the Amway Grand Plaza in Grand Rapids, Michigan, so hotel business and hospitality is in her blood. She went to Miami of Ohio University and grad school at the University of Chicago, but her heart belongs to the University of Michigan! Yes, she will root for MSU, unless they are playing Michigan, of course. Emily is a therapist and Realtor in Grand Rapids. She managed a Vrbo in Grand Rapids—The Pantlind Lakehouse. She was a premiere member and consistently number 1 in the Grand Rapids market. Therefor setting up a Vrbo/short-term rental in Florida was natural for both of them.

Why they chose this property
Marco Island - “Had us at Hello!” ❤️
Why we purchased a house in Marco Island, Florida? Well, first of all we are from Michigan, need we say more... Polar Vortex... ❄️ We fell for Marco Island because of its sub-tropical warm climate, natural beauty, and varied architecture of homes and neighborhoods, with few gated communities. The island is convenient for getting around by car, bike, or on foot, and is very close to the bridge. No matter where you live, it is easy access to beautiful beaches, water to view swimming dolphins and manatees, marinas, restaurants, boutique shopping, and numerous other water activities along the coast and Marco River.
The atmosphere on Marco Island is very laid back and unpretentious, a true coastal town, where rarely is there a need for a dress code. With a maximum speed limit of 35 MPH on the main roads - you can’t help but be on coastal time. The low number of franchised restaurants and stores allow for islanders to discover and support the amazing local restaurants, shops, and hangouts.
We chose our home for its open, comfortable floor plan, extra large lanai and updated kitchen and bathrooms. We like having a corner lot with its well-manicured lawn, colorful shrubbery, numerous large palm trees and flowering plants, which gives our guests a true tropical paradise experience indoors and outdoors.
Most importantly, we are impressed with Marco Island’s commitment to the protection of endangered species. Marco Island is dedicated to educating the public on the local wildlife that are at-risk. The island is home to several federally protected species: the bald eagle, burrowing owls, loggerheads turtles, gopher tortoise, & manatees - to name a few. The community offers several programs where residents and visitors can be involved in the process of the protection and growth of the endangered wildlife.
With all of this said, it did not take us long to fall hard for this amazing island! We hope that you will too!🌴

What makes this property unique
Why choose the Pantlind Island!
The Pantlind Island House is well-appointed to help guest relax and enjoy the island. The home offers many TVs, charming furniture, luxurious bedding and towels. The open floor plan, vaulted ceiling, large sliding glass doors and lanai provide for true tropical living. The house is decorated with an intentional coastal vibe. Many of the pictures on the walls are done by local artist. Marco Island is close to Naples but has that relaxed and remote island feel. The traffic between Marco and Naples can be heavy at times but everything on Marco is easily accessible. All the beaches are amazing and we especially love Tigertail Beach! You'll love the subtropical climate with all the canals and the Marco River with manatees, dolphins, and much more wildlife. The protection and education of endangered species is very important to the islanders and to us too.
The location of the Pantlind Island House is easily accessible from the main bridge into Marco. Plus, restaurants and shops can be reached easily on foot or by bike (we give you 4!), and the beaches are a 20 minute bike or 10 minute car ride away. To leave the island, there is only one turn left and one right turn to the Jolley bridge. Barfield, the street bordering the house, can be fairly busy at times, as it is a main street to Old Marco, the Jolley Bridge, and the Estates. Fortunately, the Pantlind Island House, located on a large corner lot, has a 5 foot hedge that creates privacy from the street and helps reduce car noise.
