About this property

Beautiful, quiet, farmhouse on island of Andros, Greece

Peaceful and private stone farmhouse on the unspoilt island of Andros in the northern Cyclades. Set in the hills above the sea, with spectacular views. The house is ten minutes to the nearest beach (and Taverna) but within easy distance of scores of unspoilt beaches, some also with excellent Tavernas. There will always be a secluded beach to be found. The house has a fully equipped kitchen, large cool sitting room, two shower rooms, four double bedrooms (one often a treble) and one single. There are two parts to the house and is suitable for two families if necessary. The main part has three bedrooms, the shower room, the kitchen and sitting room and the other has two bedrooms and a second shower room. Perfect for a family holiday for those who enjoy the peace and tranquillity of a beautiful rural Greek island or for a quiet retreat. The local port and fishing village (10-15 mins drive) has Tavernas and cafes to suit all tastes, together with shops and farmers selling their produce.

charming house
Nice property, in old style, simple but very charming! very kind service by Maria for the check-in and then you feel like in another world, in a strong continuity with the country environment just outside, but with a wonderful view of the sea not far... Just some furnishing for the kitchen could be ameliored!

Andros jewel of a house
Victoria and Edward's house is exquisite. Ideally located, meaning far enough from town center of Gavrio, but close enough to it so that car shopping is never a problem, and no matter what close to any good beaches of the area, the house is decorated with style and taste, but nothing showing off though, you'll never get the feeling that you are living into some sort of UK deco magazine where touching a carpet or a plate in the kitchen becomes a problem. Quite handy, practical and simple, the house functions well, and is charming. Last but not least, it benefits from a splendid view upon Felos bay. In summer, night view with Moon shining on the bay is something you will never forget. A highly recommanded house for people loving beautiful, lovely and charming places, yet practical, comfortable and simple. We've been loving and renting this place for a couple of years and will come back for sure! Jacques and Benoit

Another great stay in Andros
It's our second time at Victoria and Ed's house in Andros, and we simply loved it as much as the first time. The house is full of charm, old stone house, very simply and nicely renovated and decorated. Great terrace with a beautiful view on the hills of Andros and the sea, and on the starry sky at night. Location is ideal, 10-15 minutes from Gavrios, small harbour with everything you need for shopping, eating and drinking, and 10-20 minutes from (in our mind) the best beaches of Andros, i.e the ones where you often meet not more than 5 or 10 other people. Kitchen is big and practical, and the terrace is ideal for bbq. The only thing which could be improved is the bathroom in the main house, which lacks a window - most of us ended up by taking our showers in the bathroom of the second house, which is simple but perfect. Not more to add except that if you're thinking about renting in Andros, Victoria and Ed's place should clearly be on top of your list!

A perfect week's break
This was our first trip to Andros, I was tipped off by a friend about it, and I'll definitely be going back, it's a perfect, unspoilt island with countless beautiful, uncrowded beaches to explore - we were often the only people on the beach and usually the only Brits which was wonderful! The property is charming, situated in a peaceful, private location. It was simply decorated, and certainly what you'd call 'rustic'. However everything is in working order, it's comfortable, and there's a lovely sheltered area (important on such a windy island!) to sit and eat dinner or watch the sunset. Whilst you're at the house you feel like the only people on the island, yet its within a 10 minute drive of the local town with plenty of (quite) lively bars and restaurants, and a fairly well stocked supermarket (only complaint was, not enough Tonic for our sundown G&T's!) Also this town (Gavrio) is helpfully where the Athens ferry arrives into so it was handy for getting there and away. Andros is a hidden gem of Greece, so wonderfully quiet and timeless - it's not a place of great luxury - you won't have your sea view impeded by superyachts - the restaurants were cheap and delicious, and the locals were wonderfully friendly despite my total lack of Greek language skills. The Owners are clearly really attached to the property and have decorated it beautifully - the room with all the model boats is a particular treat. It was nice to stay in such a homely atmosphere. It's well maintained, with decent showers and plenty of space, the kitchen is small but perfectly useable, and well stocked with cutlery/crockery etc, we cooked at home most nights as the seating area outside was such a nice place to spend the evening. It did get hot at night but the rooms were perfectly airy and well ventilated, and there was the odd fan laying about but I didn't find I needed one with the windows open. We spent most days exploring the various beaches and tavernas at our end of the island, all of which were wonderful - annoyingly I now cannot remember the names of them, but the owners had included a helpful pack of information in the house with tips on the good beaches etc which was very useful. We were after a week of relaxing, eating, drinking and sunbathing and we got exactly that, and more, in spades. All in all it was a wonderful place to stay and i'll definitely be booking in again next year if I can.

idyllic island retreat
The farmhouse is exactly as advertised - a simple yet utterly charming retreat on one of the few remaining truly unspoiled Greek islands. Its location is ideal: a short distance from Gavrio, the ferry port, which boasts plenty of Greek charm and several delicious restaurants, and 20-odd minutes by car to various sheltered and almost certainly empty beaches (although a bumpy trip across the island in search of other, even more breathtaking coves is a trip extremely well spent). The view from the farmhouse to the sea is, give or take the odd ruin and herd of goats, uninterrupted and leaves you feeling like the only people on the island. Indoors is clean and comfortable, although very little time was spent under the roof given what lies outside the door! It is as tranquil a place as they come. Andros offers something for everyone - friendly tavernas, beautiful walks, cliff jumping, nightlife in Batsi and more beaches than there are days to explore them... It is, in essence, a true, no-frills Greek island experience.

Why they chose this property

My husband fell in love with the rustic charm of Andros when visiting on family holidays. We have spent every summer holidays on the island with our children who are now young adults -they and their friends have also fallen for Andros.

What makes this property unique

The house is very quiet and private but is not too far from the nearest shops and tavernas. The house is built of traditional stone and retains some of the original features. It has lovely views of the sea in the distance The island has not succcumbed to too much tourism and therefore it has not changed very much over the last 30 years. Even in the height of summer one can usually find a beach with very few people on it.
