Secluded Hideaway
This property had all the essentials for a relaxing holiday with the new shower room being the highlight. With the fine weather we experiened during our stay it great to able eat out side using the table and chairs provided The cottage has relatively easy access to Wells and Glastonbury for their historical attractions and the benefit of two local pubs in Wookey for eating out in the evenings. Access to the Somerset levels was also reasonably convenient but be aware that the roads are mainly single lane with passing places. Gill was very helpful during the booking process and throughout our stay.

Had a lovely short break with boyfriend in the quiet Somerset countryside. Was our first holiday of the year since the pandemic and we were pleasantly surprised. Gill made us feel so welcome upon arrival. The cottage was stunning and we felt so relaxed, the wood burner is an excellent addition. Would highly recommend to anyone looking for a quiet and relaxing break.

Has to be seen to be believed
This cottage and the surrounding vineyards were absolutely beautiful. The cottage was cosy and comfortable and we had everything we needed. Walking through the vineyards we were just blown away by how beautiful it all was. We followed recommendations in the visitors guide in the cottage and ate at The Pheasant in Worth (walking distance) and also the Sheppey in Godney. Both were lovely, the food was great but the Sheppey is a wonderful experience, you would never know how quirky this place is unless you visit and the food is out of this world. We saw little of Gill and Dave which was fine because we knew we could call on them if we needed. Would definitely recommend.

Peaceful cottage
We stayed 5 nights in June 2019. This charming stone cottage was very well equipped and featured a most comfortable bed. Our hosts Gill and James offered a friendly, relaxed atmosphere and were happy to chat and suggest walks, advice on pubs and features of the area. We really enjoyed Wells, particularly the Bishops Palace and found Wookey provided a nice glimpse of life in a rural English village. We could have stayed much longer and highly recommend this property.

About the host

Host profile image
Fifteen years ago when Gill and James first saw Panniers Farm they dreamt of planting a vineyard on the wonderful south facing slope and make English wine from this very special place. Now we have two parcels of vines and a small winery producing award winning still and sparkling wines as well as traditional Somerset cider.

Why they chose this property

This is a truly wonderful place to come and relax in peaceful Somerset countryside, being on the edge of the Mendip Hills and the Somerset Levels, with Wells and Glastonbury within a few miles.
The cottage is on a vineyard producing English sparkling and still wines, offering vineyard and winery tours and tastings. A range of Somerset craft ciders are also made here. Seasonal fresh produce such as salads are available, as well as eggs from our free range hens. Our small flock of friendly Suffolk sheep roam freely on the hillside.
Take a short walk through the lanes to the local goat farm in the village and sample their delicious range of goats cheeses and milk, and lots of friendly goats to pet!
On the edge of the Somerset Levels, this is a fantastic area for bird watching with three reserves close by: RSBP Shapwick Heath, Ham Wall and West Hay, where afternoons can be spent watching the starling formations. There are also many great walks, being at the foot of the Mendip Hills - an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, Ebbor Gorge and Deer Leap are a few minutes away by car.
After a long day of walking, what could be better than visiting one of the many traditional local pubs before retiring in front of the open fire. There are three pubs within walking distance,The Pheasant Inn at Worth being at the bottom of the lane. The Sheppey Inn at Godney, just a fifteen minute drive away is well worth a visit, the quirky pub has been rated one of the best British pubs - "Its exterior gives no hint of the wonders within", serves up delicious gastropub food and puts on many gigs and monthly music nights.

This is also an area rich in heritage, located just outside the historic city of Wells, one of England's smallest cities, with its beautiful buildings, cobbled streets and an old market place, where there is a large farmer's market held on Wednesday morning. The Cathedral and the Bishop's Palace are well worth a visit.
Bath and Bristol are only a forty five minute drive away.
