Hosted by Angela Sims

Hi! I’m Angela! Waco, Texas native, wife, mom of two boys, CEO, interior designer and magazine publisher.
For 12 years I've been a graphic designer, CEO and publisher of a local bridal Magazine, Bliss Bridal Magazine.
Over the years I have always loved decorating and in 2017 took over a small Etsy pillow shop, Laurel and Blush. I now not only design pillows, but I also design homes and businesses full-time.

Why they chose this property
In 2019 I decided to launch our newest adventure, Halet James Design Co. Named after my two boys, Parker James who is 6 and Merritt Halet who recently turned 3. Our Waco airbnb, The Halet House serves as a spec home. I wanted to create a space to showcase my true design style from the ground up. The Halet House was once a drawing I drew on a napkin at a restaurant, and now is a place filled with Waco history, European antiques, vintage art, and modern elements. What you won’t see are the bible verses and blessing for each person walking through our doors, that were written on the beams throughout each room behind the sheetrock. This house was built with love and faith. This house is my heart, and I’m glad to share a piece of it with all that walk through its doors.
What makes this property unique
This vintage European style custom built home has re-imagined the Waco vacation rental scene.
I wanted to create a space filled with every idea I have wanted to do, but did not have the right project to do it for. While growing up in Waco, I have fallen in love with learning all about Waco’s past and wanted to use this design project to also pay homage to Waco’s rich history. Inside the home you will find many historic photos with the stories behind each image inside the house manual.
The open kitchen and dining room is my favorite space. I loved Mixing vintage elements like the cabinet trim and pulls with more modern touches like the vent-a-hood and the sleek quartz counter-tops. When designing to also serve as a vacation rental, I also had to consider first impressions and homely touches. I wanted the design to be different as soon as our guests walk through the front door. I focused on making the kitchen a statement piece with the built in china cabinets on both sides and choosing such a bold cabinet color. I wanted to create a vacation rental that was more than just a place for people to sleep but for them to never want to leave!
