About this property

Whitestar Station's Palm Tree Cottage in Colville -- BE ACTIVE or RELAX !!!

Just outside the door of Palm Tree Home, you have bush & scenic walks, waterfalls and swimming down in the creek. And it's only 2-10 minutes drive away from the beach, cafes, general store (closes at 5pm), farm store, art & craft shops, medical centre, post centre, library, op shop and tennis courts. You'll love my place because of the outdoors space (1260 hectares of it) and the equal amounts of character & comfort. My place is good for pets; friends, family and club get-togethers ( 4 other houses available on the farm for accommo too)
Our older but comfy 4 bedroom home is cool in summer but cosy warm in winter especially with the woodstove going.
2 bedrooms are inside the house and then there are 2 bedrooms adjoining the bathroom which is across the metre-wide verandah from the kitchen
(When there's more than 4 people, the other bathroom will be available to use. It's about 10 metres around the outside of the house.)
There's no deck but the BBQ table on the lawn outside is perfect for sitting and watching the food cook on the BBQ, supping on a wine or two and star-gazing at night (no light pollution here!!) Or during the day it's neat to see the Hereford cattle grazing on the paddocks with the mountains in the background. FREE (limited) WiFi
Guest access ...... There's a 1260 hectare farm to wander on -- half in grass and half in native bush and regenerating manuka bush. (Manuka is what the bees use to make the honey that is tasty, anti bacterial and antiviral. It's available for sale at the Colville Store.
There are bush tracks up to the top of the mountain range with waterfalls on the way. And there are ways to the top of the range via grass paddocks as well -- glowworms are up there too in an old goldmine.
The Hereford cattle don't mind you wandering through them as long as you haven't got a dog with you -- they think the dog is going to hurt their babies and will chase it/you !! (The silly sheep just bolt off if you just look at them, but you can still wander through them too.)
Just 150m away is the creek which is great for paddling in the shallows, building dams and checking out the fish life. A few metres upstream, swimmers can jump off the bank and bridge and swim in a 3m deep hole. (CHECK DEPTH FIRST + WHETHER THERE ARE LOGS THAT YOU COULD LAND ON) More swimming can be done at the waterfalls too - 3 of them - lovely native bush to go through.
Tramping choices on the farm range from 1 to 6 hours - through bush, grassland and up into the mountains for amazing views of the Pacific Ocean and Hauraki Gulf. (Detour to an old goldmine for closeups of glow worms too)
LOTS OF OFF-FARM ACTIVITIES TOO
500m to Mahamudra Buddhist Retreat
1.5m to Medical Centre; Library; Art and Craft shops (including the Himalaya Store for clothes and jewellery); Cafes (including The Hereford 'n' a Pickle where local meat, produce, baking and condiments are sold); Post Centre, Tennis courts and General Store (Has most supplies including bait, alcohol, fuel, LPG -- closes at 5pm)
*2km to School and tidal beach
*1 hr 10mins to Coromandel Walkway
*10mins to all-tide swimming at Waitete Bay, and boat ramp and
fishing charters (at Amodeo Bay) Supplies & refreshments available there too (at Anglers Lodge)
*25mins to Driving Creek Railway; 1hr 45 to Hot Water Beach
*3hrs to Auckland, Auckland Airport, Hamilton and Tauranga
Special conditions:
* The queen bed is ready to sleep in with sheets, duvet/blankets and an electric blanket. The single beds have just a bottom sheet, pillow and case as well as duvets/blankets. For a single-sized top sheet, towel, facecloth and soap, it would be an extra charge of $10 per person
* Pets are welcome but we ask that you clean up the yard etc, after them.
* Track maintenance charge applies if you bring your motorbike or 4WD vehicle. POA

Tranquility for the whole family including Pets! With so much to do
We loved our stay here, its not flash but its everything you need for a great holiday that was pet friendly, we went swimming in the stream, saw the pet eels, went 4wd up towards the gold mine that was a fun adventure and the views were just spectacular! We went down the road and went for a fish everyday, easy access for the boat aswell. Has everything you need for a holiday including washing machine to make the load at home abit easier. Kitchen was great lounge was cosy and the rooms were a really good size. We also got some honey and it was delicious the best honey! I love that they have good fridge and freezer space. The area is so lovely with beautiful native trees and wildlife such a breath of freash air. We will definitely be coming back Ngaire was very friendly and easy to communicate with. If your looking for somewhere to get away that wont break the bank that is suitable for the whole family look no further!

I came from a dairy farm on boring flat land near Thames so when I married Zane, I was able to tramp and ride horses over this unique, exhilirating landscape where you never know what you'll see around the corner or over the next hill.
I used to look after all the 5 accommo houses on the farm and took many generations of visiting families to do cow milking and animal feeding. But now with getting older and more tired, I have given a house each for our daughter and 2 daughters-in-law to look after. Just having one house to look after and no more animal activities, is much easier -- PHEW !!

Why they chose this property

Our farmhouse was built in 1945 out of the best timber left over from the original homestead built in 1870. ..... After coming from Wales in 1864, the Evans' cleared the land of the lovely Kauri trees which were taken back to England to build ships. Then later they started farming -- sheep, milking cows and now Hereford cattle. The calves are sold when they are 6 months old for breeding and fattening further. Our grandchildren are the 7th generation -- 3 generations are still living on the farm. It is really special for all of us to be able to live here on our beautiful land and to have the opportunity to share it with others :)

What makes this property unique

Take time-out. Relax. Listen to the birdsong. Be lazy. Unwind. Sleep
OR be active with all the physical stuff available on the farm or in the local area
