We recently had a family vacation in Lakeside Paradise on Scugog Lake. The cottage is very well laid out and very spacious. There are plenty of windows to make the inside very bright and sunny with a wonderful view of the lake. There are multiple bedrooms all of which are very functional and comfortable. The bunkie is also very comfortable. The kitchen area is a bit small, but we were able to prepare our meals for everyone without too much disruption. The air conditioner was very efficient and kept the cottage at a comfortable temperature. The Internet was very reliable and quick. The outdoor deck is very large and well maintained although it could use with some new stain but this is not really a big problem. The BBQ is large enough to handle a large party of hungry adults. The yard is very large, and we were able to play multiple games at the same time such as cornhole and bocci ball. From the dock you get amazing views of the sunset to the west of the lake.I can't say enough about the amazing service we received from the owner, David. On Sunday afternoon the hot tub pump died. We contacted Dave to let him know and he came right over that night with a new pump and repaired it, working late into the evening. Also, when we left, I forgot my old ebook reader in the cottage. He found it while preparing the cottage for the next visitors and mailed it to me at no cost.

Negative 5 stars

-5 stars if we could. Upon arrival the place didn’t seem to be cleaned at all. It was actually DISGUSTING. Kitchen, fridges, floors, webs everywhere, and the sheets had a stench. We are being charged a 300 cleaning fee and so I assume the previous party were charged the same. Hard to justify the cleaning fee we are paying if its not going to be cleaned after us and this is just the tip of the iceberg. The BBQ grill was weak (200 degree Fahrenheit maximum). The fridges were not only dirty as I had mentioned but they weren't keeping our food and drinks cold. We had to put everything in the freezer to try and keep everything from spoiling. Even our butter was semi liquid being kept in the freezer. Worst of all was the A/C did not work. We had a party of 13 including many children and it was even hard to sleep at night with the house being 28 degrees celcius with all the windows open. The coach house was littered with bugs, webs and dust. The vacuum cleaner they had in the house did not work so cleaning was a challenge although we are paying a cleaning fee.Last but not least the host was responsive for the most part until we told them the A/C was not working and they sent a technician that could not fix it for us. After that last message that we had to suffer for the rest of our trip the host remained unresponsive.

Nice property but not maintained

This cottage in theory is great, but unfortunately it is not well cleaned and maintained in between guests. The hottub was very dirty and we could not use it, even though the host confirmed before hand it was ready for us. When we got in there was a thick layer of slime on the ground and we could see our footprints. We sent the host a message about the cleanliness of the hottub and never received a response. In the kitchen, the inside of the fridge was not wiped out, the cupboards had a lot of crumbs, and dishes were just thrown in, some with old food and mold growing on them. The upstairs bathroom had no working lights. It is clear they do not check the property very carefully in between guests. Still giving this cottage 3 stars because the bedrooms seemed clean, the property had a good firepit and was nice for yard games. We had a fun weekend but felt the 300 cleaning fee should have resulted in a cleaner space and a hot tub that we could actually use. Also the lakefront at this cottage does not have a swimming area, it is very marshy. I didn't think it was emphasized enough on the listing that you cannot swim here.
