About this property

Quirky Barn Stay Experience, fully insulated, warm, beautiful mountain views,

If you would like a holiday with a difference you can have the ultimate, quirky barn experience!! Our FULLY insulated, although it may not appear so in the photos, family barn is cosy and warm with all the comforts of home. End walls insulated and roof ( between TWO layers of corrugated iron ). Apple TV with free Netflix, unlimited broadband, wood burner and even a billiard table! Themed throughout as a rustic barn with many things to see and do it has rustic ambiance yet with a touch of the unusual! Ideal for a couple or up to 5 people. Already set up with a permanent king size bed. If you require extra single or double beds please let me know.
Our barn is a tunnel barn that has been upgraded with insulation and a second layer of roof making it even cosier for the winter and beyond! It has a wooden staircase up to a mezzanine floor which is open to below. The bedroom upstairs has wall to wall carpet with a permanent king size bed. We also have fold-up camp style beds with thick foam mattresses rather than the usual skimpy ones! These can be placed upstairs or downstairs as singles or two pushed together as a double. Please read the House Rules for details of this. Downstairs is open plan with a polished concrete floor with some carpet and rugs, rustic style kitchen, bathroom, wood fire and a billiard table. The kitchen has an electric oven, microwave and fridge/freezer if you were thinking you might have had to cook on a primus stove and store your food out under a tree! There's most of the essential things a normal kitchen would have. The internal bathroom has a shower, washing machine and civilized toilet but it does have a 'pull chain' just for the fun of it! We also have a clothes dryer in an adjoining room. There is also foozball, darts, cards and board games. Table and chairs provided inside and out. Throw open the big doors so you can soak up the amazing view of the surrounding mountains even from inside!
The Barn is located on a lower ledge of land, below and quite separate but in close proximity to our house. It is situated in a quiet, sheltered corner of land overlooking and surrounded by awesome scenery. While there is a newly completed, housing subdivision below, The Barn is on a higher level with majestic mountain views. An access road up to The Barn enables you to drive all the way up to the door with level entry. There is room to turn around and park on site.
I prefer to personally greet my guests and show them through on arrival. Being a barn and not a normal house there are a few things you need to know. Hopefully I will be available during your stay but if I was to go away for a couple of days family members live close by and would be available to assist if needed.
The Barn previously had a single iron roof (now two layers) enabling full insulation so that it is even cosier for the winter months and beyond! You can fire up the woodburner.... wood provided and there are other heaters. There is Apple TV with free Netflix and there is unlimited Broadband available. Yay!! I also have nearby, my late mother Jill's, 500 strong Modern Porcelain Doll Collection, housed in its own small museum. You are welcome to view this at no charge on request. As I live up above The Barn you can walk up the track or drive up. No need to bring bottled water.....we have the purest, alpine, mineral water (from a private scheme) you could ever imagine coming straight out of our tap, tested regularly and no chemicals added! Every endeavor is made to use and provide Eco friendly consumables where possible. Due to the health risks associated with 5G and if you have this capability on your cellphone, I will respectfully ask that you default to a 4G setting during your stay at this property.

We really enjoyed our stay at the barn! The kitchen was great and it was very cozy eating dinner with the fireplace going on a rainy night. It is a quirky stay, which felt a little clustered and dusty, but it was a great stay overall.

We stayed here for 3 nights whilst skiing at Coronet Peak. The location is great, the accommodation was very comfortable and the unique style really added to our experience. Judy was a perfect host and we would definitely stay again when in Queenstown.

After a very disappointing start with a delay of almost 3 hours to gain entry and having been given the wrong address (having to go via a construction site) we eventually entered the barn with the host still preparing the premises. Judy was very friendly and apologetic but by this time it had started to rain and the weather was miserable and we just wanted to get settled. We left Judy preparing the barn and went out for provisions. We had originally planned to go out for a meal but it was now too late. It took awhile to settle in and get cosy. Once as we were settled it was a lovely comfortable stay. The barn has a lot of quirky touches and charm. Very cosy and warm when the fire was lit.

I can only apologise once again for the unusual circumstances that lead to your delay in gaining entry. I had only just returned from the Nth Island after attending to an unexpected family bereavement and funeral which made for a tight changeover on my return. In my haste to get the barn ready I inadvertently gave you the wrong address and apologised. I appreciated your aparent patience at the time. For clarification, it is clearly stated in my online listing description, that notification is required ahead if guests need an extra bed set up. This was not requested by you and accounted for extra set up time after your arrival, as you confirmed that indeed an extra one was needed. Despite your disappointment, now expressed publicly, I am happy that you ended up enjoying your stay over all.

The Barn is like a second home. There is so much detail and care Judy puts into this amazing slice of paradise. So many recommendations for what to do. After going out and adventuring all day it was so nice to come back to a warm and cozy place. The fireplace was so nice to be able to put on and watch movies and relax. The kitchen is kitted out with everything youd need to be able to cook. Definately will be back next time we are in Queenstown. Thank you Judy

Thank you for your kind Review and for being such great guests. Pleased The Barn had everything you needed and you found the atmosphere cozy and relaxing. So rewarding as a host to know that your enjoyed your stay as much as I enjoyed meeting you both. It was fun to find through our friendly conversations that we had several things in common. Thanks for staying, I would welcome you back in a heartbeat! Best wishes, Judy

l am an Australian from way back but have now lived in NZ for the majority of my life. Met my husband on a skiing trip to Queenstown in 1969! Needless to say I still love skiing and keeping fit. I have enjoyed hiking, travel, campervaning and bringing up 4 children.....now adults and have five grandchildren. While I am now a widow I still love meeting people and enjoy hosting visitors.

Why they chose this property

Queenstown has so much to offer. Outdoor persuits are endless and there is plenty to do other than adrenalin based activities. The scenery is amazing any time of the year.

What makes this property unique

The barn is a destination in itself, 20 mins from Coronet Peak and close to town it is a unique quirky place to stay if you are looking for a different experience. There are several local restaurants in Arthurs Point if you are wishing to avoid the bustle of town but we are only 6 kms away. Several walking/biking trails nearby and close to the Shotover River with its gold mining history.
