The stay was truly memorable and special. You are really able to enjoy the nature around you outside, and the inside is also really interesting and unique (with lots of great history you will find!). We usually rotate houses every year for this annual trip we do, but if this place is available next year, we are 100% booking this place again. Unforgettable experience!

We own two VRBO properties and have been guests at many, many others. This is hands-down, the most special, magical place we've ever stayed--the history, the fabulous books and art, the amazing decor. Katie and Camilla were great to work with, and gave us a spectacular restaurant rec as well. We hope to be back soon!

Richard,
Makes us so happy to be lucky enough to have someone who appreciates it like you. Thank you for your kind words. And look forward to your return!

The property was as rustic and enchanting as advertised. We had a great time despite the weather. The place is especially amazing for kids given the play room, the water streams and open spaces. The books, kitchen equipment, seating spaces, are all top notch. We honestly don't think we even explored all the amenities in 3 days. katie and Eric were great at answering our questions and extremely accommodating. We are definitely going to try to go back again. Hopefully we can bring better weather.

Our extended family group of 11 came for a long winter weekend and loved the Awosting house! It was spacious, the fireplace was very cozy, and we were fascinated by the house’s character and history, still discovering cool little details on our last morning. The managers, Mike and Katie, were also great, quickly responsive to questions, handy with recommendations, and also taking time out to describe a little of the house’s history.
We had an amazing weekend and we’re so grateful to enjoy this home. The trails, decks, pools, all made our time together so special. Scott was terrific in helping us relax and enjoy the home and the area and made the entire experience something we will always remember.

We LOVED having you and your family! Question is when are you coming back:)
We had a group of adult friends at Awosting for the weekend, and it was everything we had hoped for and more! Kristen was an incredible hostess, and we enjoyed all aspects of the lodge- especially the freshwater pool, waterfall hike, and fire pit. It was clean and comfortable and absolutely beautiful. Highly recommend if you’re looking for a semi-rustic location with a big group!

This place is a rare gem & a treasure. The lodge was very much like the photos with many rooms that accommodated our large family who enjoyed it immensely. I would highly recommend this amazing lodge for those who love novelty, natural beauty and excellent accommodations. The house manager Katie was exceptional and went above and beyond our needs. We are talking about returning for future family events. Loved it.
The most unique VRBO we have ever stayed at. An enlarged hunting lodge, it is definitely rustic, with small but modern bathrooms and WiFi. But the most amazing feature is the spacious deck, overlooking a 100’ waterfall roaring down a sheer cliff! Great base camp for hiking, both onsite and at nearby Shawangunk Ridge state parks and nature preserves. Highly recommend for outdoorsy types, especially hikers and rock climbers.

This property is incredible. The cabin is so unique! It’s like a giant treasure chest. We were a group of 5 adults and 6 kids. Everyone had the best time and all said they would love to come back again. Thank you to Mike and Katie for being so helpful during our stay. What a magical place. Thank you Camilla for sharing your amazing home with others.

Katie,
It makes me smile ear to ear when someone appreciates it. So happy to share it with family like yours! And look forward to having you back!
Our weekend was magical. Property is imbued with life, history, character and all the creature comforts. Equally satisfying for all generations, including toddlers. Hiking is unlimited. Scott is FANTASTIC! Can’t say enough about what he contributes to the experience and his presence just adds to the wonderful visit. The owner Camilla presented the property in an understated way- it will be even better than you imagine.
We are definitely coming back.
Our weekend at the Lodge was a treat for all senses. Natural beauty abounds. We enjoyed exploring waterfalls and trails throughout the property. We lounged on the sun-splashed deck, share smores and stories by the outdoor bonfires under the stars, and cozied up by the many stone fireplaces after fabulous adventures on the trails. Any culinary delight – from the gluten free to the glutenous - was available, thanks to live-in cook and caretaker Scott, and delicious to boot! All the while, you’re soaking up the quirky and storied history of the unique place. Upon arriving, you wonder “if only the walls could talk...” And… they do! Scott prepared not only the delicious treats and details to ensure a fabulous stay, but also brought the eccentric history of the place to life with fascinating tales! Such intrigue, such adventure, such fun!
Of lore and lure, the Awosting historic lodge does not disappoint! Awosting is an idyllic mountain setting, a unique place to disconnect and turn on your inner-adventuring spirit all while being pampered like a “king/queen of the mountain”, even if only for our brief time in residence!

Katie! How wonderful to know you and your friends had such a good time! It makes me so happy to share this place with others that appreciate it so. And, as all come to find out, Scott is a magical addition.
Lovely cabin, best suited for people comfortable with the outdoors
We stayed for 2 nights. Hosts communicated promptly over Vrbo and text message to clarify details in the days prior to arrival. Check-in process was straightforward: one of the hosts met me at the gate and we drove up to the property together. Kitchen is well-stocked with dishware. The play room has a projector, as well as various toys that are perfect to entertain a toddler. The house has a lot of memorabilia due to its unusual history. A/C in the living room and play room work well. Plenty of seating area for people to chat or have a little time alone as well. Beware that the bunk beds are not very long (maybe about 6' total).Of course, by far the most amazing aspect is the falls visible and audible from the porch. The water level was high, even though we visited in late June. Several trails start from the cabin location itself, including one which goes to Atwater Falls. This short hike is absolutely worth it, though hikers should be cautioned to wear long pants, bring insect repellent, and do thorough checks for ticks, as the trail is overgrown with grasses.Just as a heads up to future bookers-- you will encounter various wildlife, in particular deer and salamanders/newts outdoors and millipedes, spiders, moths, etc. indoors. It's a cabin in the woods, so this is expected, but be mindful of this aspect if it is not for you.Absolute joy to stay in, everyone had a great time!

It was a true privilege to be the first renter of this slice of heaven. To celebrate the birthday of a family matriarch, we needed a great getaway to reunite as small families. The location was the most convenient to convene but little did we imagine that we would chance into this spectacular experience at Awosting Lodge (Awosting means “Pure Water” in Algonquin Indian).
Three things stand out about this lodge. 1) The natural splendor was unparalleled. Set in acres of woodland, glacial lakes, waterfalls and exploratory trails there was a spectacular view at every corner. 2) The cottage inside had a tasteful designer touch infused with historic artifacts that gave every room a superior sense of purpose and yet the outside patio/balcony was by far one of the setting that we´ve every experienced. The all-natural Olympic size pool fed by mountain streams was ever-inviting for a fresh dip and crisp rejuvenation. There was also a tastefully appointed dome tent and an outdoor bed that the kids loved!! ´3) Scott the Chef was a very warm and welcoming host who besides organizing amazing dinners, paid special attention to anticipating needs and connecting with the young and old alike sharing some great stories and plenty of laughs. It was special! We might have uncovered a new annual tradition for our family.. my sincere thanks to Camila & Scott for making our stay magical!

Surya,
what a treat it was to have your beautiful family, and we do hope you make it an annual event! Perhaps next time I will lead you on one of my favorite hikes, and the kids can stay in a geodome....

The property was stunning and the house so uniquely beautiful/well-appointed. The hosts were great with communication and very accommodating with an early check-in. We will certainly be back.

Kate,
we look forward to seeing you again. It is a place that is twice as wonderful when we get to share it.

Unique, unnecessarily expensive, and wildly disappointing
Despite the wonderful history and unique decor of the property, the overall experience, highlighted by poor interactions with the owner/caretakers, made me wish we booked elsewhere. There was next to no communication with the owner after booking and as a result we ended up paying for an extra dome and extra pet and were unaware of the snakes in the pool, complete lack of privacy and total ban of outdoor fires. Most of these items weren’t communicated until arrival and in hindsight we definitely would have booked somewhere else if we had more notice.
The lack of privacy was certainly the biggest issue that was misrepresented in the listing as a caretaker checks in and does laundry unannounced in addition to keeping an eye on things, every day. They should also disclose that the pools have plenty of snakes in them in addition to the frogs that they kind of mention.
Bottomline, this rental experience offers incredibly poor value for what you get. Hopefully they can make the necessary changes to improve the guest experience moving forward.
We had the most amazing time at this property! Everything was perfect and Kristen was so helpful and kind. We will definitely be returning in the future!
First off, the caretaker for the property, Kristin, was amazing and took such great care of us during our stay including taking us on a guided hike to yet another beautiful waterfall on the property -- in addition to the one right off the back deck! The house is definitely rustic and not for everyone, but the surroundings are extraordinary and made for a really nice getaway for a few days. The highlight of the entire stay hands down was the amazing unending fire in the great room that Kristin started up in the morning and kept going for us all day long. She even built a bonfire outside one evening, which was a real treat along with the sound of the waterfall.

I can't say enough about the Awosting Lodge and surrounding property- it is truly magical!! The lodge was quaint, cozy and filled with quirky antiques and artifacts. There was plenty of space to comfortably spread out our families and hang out by the fire (4 adults and 6 kids). The property was absolutely breathtaking- waterfalls in view from the back deck and hiking trails easily accessible from the lodge. We didn't leave once! This was truly an amazing place to stay. The host, Kristen, was so lovely and extremely helpful- having her there made the stay that much better, especially as a helping hand with the kids! She had a lot of information about the grounds, grabbed us some groceries, helped arrange a private chef- truly a gem. We can't wait to come back and see what it is like in the summertime! Thank you for a peaceful, relaxing getaway!

Maren,
I am so happy you all enjoyed the Lodge. It is MADE for families to get together, and growing up I never left....too much to do - ESPECIALLY in the summer. We do hope you will come back in the summer. And Kristen is a gem:) Thank you for making us your place to gather.
Camilla
This place is absolutely magical! Brunch by the waterfall, sleeping on the porch, freshwater pools, big open sky....a perfect place to escape the monotony of daily life. Scott was awesome, part chef, part tour guide and part historian. I understand why JB and CK spent so much time here. Where else can you live in a hunting lodge with a Gatsby past? Perfect for our group!
