Stonecrop cabin is located on a magnificent 230 acre property overlooking a sparkling blue, spring-fed lake (the result of a former limestone quarry). This incredibly unique and otherworldly landscape is just 1.5 hours from Toronto. Our pristine lake is home to 5 lakeside cabins, each on its own big, beautiful and secluded lot – with dreamy desert-like vistas.
All lakeside cabins are identical in design and come with their own fire pit, paddle board, BBQ, picnic table, two Muskoka chairs, and a private dock at the water’s edge. Paddleboards are swapped out for two complimentary adult-sized pairs of snowshoes in the winter months.
Due to the realities of this site and the safety risks involved, we do not recommend this cabin for families with children under the age of 6. Pups are also only permitted on specific “pet-friendly” sites. See the “Be Aware ” section below for more detail.
BE AWARE This site features deep water, steep stairs, cliff edges, and rocky paths. Families with young children should exercise caution and provide close supervision. Fishing is not permitted on our lake.
WATER Our water is pumped from the lake. Running water is shut off when temperatures dip below freezing. This normally happens mid-October but can vary each year. When running water is shut off, we provide 40L of water for dish washing and drinking. All taps (including shower taps) are turned off. Water is turned back on before the May Long Weekend.
DRIVE IN ACCESS This cabin is a year-round drive-in cabin. The lanes accessing the cabin are plowed throughout the winter. However, we recommend 4WD or AWD drive vehicles with snow tires during the winter as country roads and plowed lanes can be difficult to navigate with low riding or 2WD vehicles.
THINGS TO BRING * Your own food & drink * Your own towels, sheets, pillows, pillow cases and blankets * Firewood * Bug repellent
OFF-GRID BASICS This eco-cabin is completely OFF-GRID. (Don’t let this scare you). Our cabin is modernized and solar powered with electricity and heat. Feel good knowing that you’re choosing a low-carbon, eco-friendly getaway. As an off-grid cabin, energy conservation is key. Drawing too much energy may cause you to lose power, so you’ll need to be mindful of your consumption during your stay. There is a back-up generator when solar power is low.
LEAVE NO TRACE All garbage and recycling must be packed up and taken home on your departure.

What makes this property unique
This Cabinscape is located on Kirkfield Lake, a body of water sustained by 3 underground fresh water springs. This gorgeous lake is clean and crystal clear with a blueness seldom seen anywhere in Ontario.
This geologically unique property (the site of a former limestone quarry) offers ample opportunities to connect with nature. Snowshoe, hike or run the trails on-site that meander through forests and wildflower meadows. Swim, paddleboard, snorkel or get out and cycle the roads and rail trails in the area.
Our property is adjacent to the Trent Severn Waterway system which connects to several larger lakes in the Kawartha Lakes region, making it an excellent basecamp for day-long expeditions on the water.
