About this property
Peaceful Creekside Retreat at the foot of Mt. Mitchell!
You will fall in love with this log cabin. We did! We were on vacation in the mountains of western North Carolina and found ourselves mesmerized by the South Toe River area. So much so, that we immediately bought The Log Cabin on Neil's Creek upon our departure. It's surrounded by towering Carolina Hemlocks and soft beds of moss. The creek, just off of the back covered porch, can be heard from all rooms of the cabin. The creek is a North Carolina wild trout stream and is filled with Rainbow and Brown Trout. Being in the Pisgah National Forest, you are sure to see some native wildlife, maybe even a black bear. There are an abundance of hiking trails that are walking distance from the cabin varying in difficulty including the Mt. Mitchell trail. Mt. Mitchell is the highest peak east of the Mississippi. There is a beautiful golf course only a five minute drive away. The cabin is spacious with an open floor plan, large kitchen and bedrooms. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, pots and pans. There is a full size washer and dryer in the bathroom. There are plenty of board games and puzzles to keep you occupied if you choose to stay in. All of the interior walls are a gorgeous, natural wood. It is very much a cozy home away from home.
As per VRBO guidelines, we must disclose that there is a camera that views the driveway and the side of the cabin towards the forest for hopeful wildlife sightings.

Pristine cabin in a gorgeous location on a creek at the Mt Mitchell trailhead. Well stocked with everything you need to make meals and morning coffee. Would stay here over and over. Very comfortable for 2 couples.

Just what we needed, a wonderful cabin in a beautiful setting. Enjoyed the nearby hikes to the waterfalls and the blooming wild hydrangea. It was very relaxing sitting in the rockers on the porch listening to the babbling brook. We can't wait to come back, even our dogs were sad to leave.

Thank you for the wonderful review, John! We hope to have you back!
We absolutely love this property. It has something for each of us, the boys love to fish and the access to hiking trails makes this cabin the perfect getaway for our family. When you add in the calming sound of the river at night and the porch, it just doesn't get any better.
Everything about this cabin is just perfect! Though it is tucked away at the base of the mountains, we had great access to not only our creek in the front yard, but a fun spot for the kids and dog to play in the water a few houses away at the beginning of a few hiking trails. The inside of the cabin was spotless, and we loved the bear theme---perfect! Thank you for a wonderful stay!
Very comfortable. Large area inside and outside. Nice stream a few steps from a terrific porch. Plenty of room for our dog to play. Would love to stay here again.
Incredible property on gorgeous creek. Cabin was so well stocked with every kitchen item necessary, paper products, towels, blankets!!!
Easy to communicate with property manager. Definitely hope to return!!
My wife and I were looking for a nice little get away to celebrate our 10yr anniversary and just spend some quality down time together away from everything. THIS was the perfect spot. Great little cabin, great location! The sound of the river flowing right outside the bedroom window was amazing and the hiking was literally right outside the front door. Could not have been happier with this expierence.
This is the second time we have stayed in this lovely cabin and we will be back. You can't beat the covered porch overlooking Neil's Creek. We sat there every morning and every evening enjoying the peaceful sound of the water. And located only a few miles from the Parkway makes this cabin the ideal place to head out for a different hike every day. Homey, clean and felt like home. We can't wait to come back!!

The title Peaceful Creekside Retreat is very fitting. Very pleasing atmosphere. Cabin is very clean and comfortable. New appliances. Laundry and kitchen detergents provided. Helpful information provided my hosts. I would stay here again.
This home is probably our favorite VRBO rental ever. The cabin was immaculate, comfortable, and well appointed, and the owners were a dream to work with. The creek running outside our bedroom window lulled us to sleep every night. We hiked the nearby trails every single day, and built a fire in the fireplace every night. We never turned on the TV the entire time we were there, and cannot wait to rebook Truly magical!

Thank you for the wonderful review, Alice! I'm so happy that you enjoyed the cabin. Best of luck in your new venture! :)
This was the best rental house we’ve ever stayed in. The house was very clean and had well kept amenities. It was great to listen to the stream while we were sleeping. There are a handful of trails you can walk to from the cabin. I caught a native rainbow trout fly fishing behind the house and a few native brook trout on the south toe river which is a short walk from the house. The only negative is that there is a cabin about 100 yards from the rental so you won’t have total privacy but every window has blinds. It wouldn’t deter me from staying here again.

Thank you, Colin! I'm happy to hear that you had good luck in the creek!
Very nice cabin on the creek. Comfortable and cleanest place we have ever stayed.
Only downside is the distance from restaurants and shopping. I really was not a fan of the curved mountain roads. Fortunately I read earlier reviews and took our groceries with us. The kitchen has everything you need to cook. We loved the peacefulness and only had neighbors one night. There are great hiking trails nearby. We loved taking the dogs to the river and walking on the rocks. Saw lots of fish and a heron. Very relaxing cabin.
I have been eyeing this cabin for a while as we drove up/down S. Toe River Road so was excited to finally catch it available on VRBO for my husband and me to celebrate our birthdays! We loved the deck overlooking the porch with the lights we could turn on at night! It's so convenient to LOTS of trails which our younger son and his girlfriend enjoyed. Great cabin, clean and well-stocked kitchen. But the location is the BEST part!
Just a note-no outside fires due to location in Pisgah National Forest so if firepits and grills are important to you those are not available here. There is an electric grill on deck.
The cabin was very nice. Peaceful, loved being able to sleep with window open falling asleep to the sound of the creek and waking up to it and sitting on front porch listening to it. while drinking coffee. We enjoyed talking to the very nice gentleman behind the counter at Efflers convenient store.
Loved that it had the parkway not far away and also hiked to few nearby waterfalls, Disappointed that there was a sign that the grassy creek falls was closed, I visited it few years back and it is a beautiful waterfall that you can get up to and walk behind. Want to thank you for allowing us to stay. We also were so glad we drove up to the parkway overlook to watch the Perseid meteiors. This was my great grandson first time going to the mtns and he did enjoy some fishing and waterfalling especially sliding rock. We truly enjoyed our stay wished it could have been longer. We are an adventure loving couple that fell in love with the North Carolina mountains. We had been busy traveling the world until Covid hit. Fortunately, it forced us to explore our own backyard here in the US and we are so glad that it did! We discovered such a little gem with this cabin and area and we are excited to share it with you!
Why they chose this property
The smell of the rainforest, the glimpse of sunlight peaking through the towering Carolina Hemlocks, the thundering sound of the creek in the back yard, the cool summer air, the peace that all of this brings.
What makes this property unique
The cabin is in a National Forest, yet on private land. There are at least 7 marked trails that are within walking distance of the cabin. The creek in the backyard is a designated wild trout stream where you can fish. The South Toe River fishing access point is a two minute walk or you can wade through the creek to the river.
