Welcome to The 401 House!
Hot tub, parking, right in the heart of town, with a free shuttle to the mountain just down the street. Come discover why this charming refurbished mining cabin in the heart of town is one of Crested Butte’s most popular vacation rentals.
Originally built in the 1890’s, this restored historic cabin feels like it is in a world of it’s own, even though it’s conveniently located in the heart of Downtown Crested Butte. A private fenced yard hides the hot tub and gas grill area, as well plenty of room to pull up a chair and unwind.
The 401 House is one block from the Mountain Express bus stop, one block from the Nordic Center, and 2 blocks from the shops and restaurants on Elk Avenue- just pull into your own off-street parking, then wave your car goodbye and focus on the finer things in life!
A spacious and well-equipped kitchen opens into a lovely dining area, then a cozy family room, complete with gas fireplace, smart TV, family-style games, and room to lounge, or even sleep in the oversized-Queen Sleeper Sofa. Radiant in-floor heat throughout means every room is toasty. Each bedroom boasts a king size bed, a high ceiling with fan, great light, and it’s own deck. Amenities galore.
Whether you need the perfect nest to refuel between your big mountain adventures, or a peaceful place to connect with those who matter most, the 401 House awaits.

Great spot with walking access to everything in town plus some hiking trails; very short drive to everything else. Home was very comfortable and hosts were great - very attentive and responsive.
Excellent location, just two short blocks off of the main street through town. Large house for a small group. Would book again if coming with a larger group.
Great location just a short walk from Elk street. It was hot when we checked in but aired out and was fine the rest of the stay. Clean, good communication with property manager and overall a great experience. Would stay again.
House was perfect for our family of 5! Fully stocked kitchen, shuttle stop to slopes 1/2 block away, easy walk to restaurants and grocery store, and very comfortable with fire place and hot tub. Our 1st visit to Crested Butte and we definitely plan to return.
Comfy beds, no AC but with open windows and ceiling fans, airflow and temp was fine. Location great. Nice hot tub! More spacious than pics show. Well equipped kitchen. Nice outdoor sitting atea
This property is clean, spacious, comfortable, and has all of the features you could hope for. The shuttle to the ski resort stops a block away and Main Street is just a two block walk. The hot tub is great, the bathrooms are very nice, and the kitchen is stocked with all of the cooking supplies you need. Highly recommend.
From check in to check out the process was seamless. The house is beautiful and absolutely spectacular! On top of that it is in the perfect location; a short walk to everything. The house is very luxurious which makes it seem as a private mini resort. We definitely didn’t want to leave and return to reality in Denver.
We loved the house. Great communication with the host, and the house was actually better than what shows in the picture. My only complaint is Whiterock is a main thoroughfare to Kebbler Pass, so if you have kids it’s a very busy street. Other than that is was perfect.
The property was perfect for our needs. Only complaint would be that on a couple chilly mornings we could not get the gas stove in the family room to work. The property manager was very courteous but also was unable to get the stove operational. We very much enjoyed our stay at the “401 House” and would look to book it for our next visit to Crested Butte.
My wife and 2 daughters rented this house to ski Crested Butte Xmas through New Years. The house itself if great - big living room area, big kitchen, 2 master bedrooms essentially, very comfortable for group of 4. Would be great for 2 couples as well.
Besides the house, the location doesn't get any better - 2 blocks from everything - restaurants, bars, shops, grocery store, dispensary, you name it. Also the city's bus system which is highly convenient that takes you up the mountain to ski picks you up pretty much at the front door.
We will definitely stay here again.
This trip included me and my husband and our 18 year old son and his friend. The property is conveniently located about 2 blocks from the main street (Elk Avenue) where all of the restaurants and shops are. Even though it's close to all the action, it is amazingly quiet on the street where it's located. The house is very well maintained outside and in with an open floor plan upon entering, nice comfy furniture, a well equipped kitchen, modern appliances and all that you need if you like to stay in and cook a meal. Beds are super comfy too and my husband and I really loved the steam shower in the master bath. There is also plenty of outdoor space and seating as well. We did not get a chance to use it much because of all of the snow, but we did love and use the outdoor hot tub, which was perfect after a full day skiing. We would highly reccommend this property and would stay there again!
Our stay was great! The steam shower and hot tub were great additions. The cleanliness of the house was noticed, everything we needed was available, and the location of the house was close to everything we wanted to do.
This was our third time staying here! With two generous king bedrooms and an open kitchen floor plan, it is very comfortable. This time I utilized the built in office area just off the kitchen. We also love being able to walk to Elk to eat and shop. We’ll be back!
We come to CB annually for biking, hiking, and cool weather. Our accommodations were perfectly located. The kitchen was well stocked for your cooking needs. The town provides other options that are great.
This is a great choice for two couples.
My husband and have booked this home on multiple occasions. We love it as its both cozy and spacious at the same time. It’s well appointed and in a great location! Going back again in the fall!

About the host
Hosted by Sean Turner
My name is Sean Turner. I moved to Crested Butte in the early 1990's to experience the legendary snowboarding and skiing once hidden away in this historic mining town. I soon learned that the real beauty of Crested Butte was it's community- artists and athletes, ranchers and dreamers, a colorful mix of unique souls all united in a deep appreciation of the Gunnison Valley's wide open spaces, clean air and water, and limitless opportunity for outdoor recreation. I also learned that Summer in the Valley is just as amazing as Winter, and realized that I had found my happy place.
My wife Ginny and I met here and made a life together, raising two amazing kiddos with the help of the local community- our old ski partners, peers, and dear friends became our children's teachers and administrators, mentors and guides. To me, this will always be the essence of Crested Butte- a small town where neighbors smile and take time to catch up, where all are welcome, in an environment so magnificent that folks travel from all over the world just to experience it.
We are grateful to host visitors from far and wide, and despite the fact that our little town has grown quite a bit over the past few decades, we do our best to preserve the feeling of community and connectedness that makes this little corner of the Elk Mountains so appealing.
