The city of Athens mirrored the growth of the University of Georgia which was chartered in 1785. It was an industrial town with a focus on Cotton Mills and the Railroad. With this history in mind, the decor of our apartment is industrial rustic with glimpses of UGA decor. The entire apartment is cozy and welcoming. There are two private bedrooms and bathrooms (tub/shower) and a shared open floor-plan kitchen, dining & living area along with an outside patio. It is a ground level apartment.
THINGS TO NOTE PRIOR TO BOOKING:
1. NEIGHBORS: The apartment is located in an apartment complex. We DO NOT have any control over our neighbors and the noises they make. Sleep sound machines are provided in the bedrooms to drown out any outside noise you may hear, but please be mindful that this is an apartment complex that shares walls and ceilings in a college town. Many of its neighbors are long-term rentals that change residents every year. We do not personally know our neighbors, but we ask that you please be respectful, polite, and kind to them all.
2. ALLERGIES: When we (the owners) visit Athens, we do bring our beloved dogs for the trip. We do our best to rid the apartment of any evidence of the dogs, but if you are highly allergic to pets, you may want to choose another location to rent. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.
3. PARKING: Parking is free on the premises, but the apartment complex's management company provided us only two parking passes for our guests. You will need to place the parking pass in your cars' dashboard during your stay and return to the apartment upon check-out! (There is a $80 replacement fee per pass.) They are threatening to tow cars if the parking pass if it is not visible in your windshield.
4. HURRICANES: If you book during hurricane season (June-November) and a hurricane looks like it’s going to hit South Georgia (where we live) during the time of your stay, we unfortunately will have to cancel your reservation so that we can safely evacuate our family and animals to Athens. We apologize in advance if this occurs.
5. DESIGN: The apartment has a combination of stained concrete floors and vinyl plank floors. This is for two reasons. One, we like them. Two, if there is ever any flooding from the plumbing above or from heavy rains, the floors are not damaged. Similarly, the tubs in the bathrooms are original. They have been reglazed, but we appreciate that they are cast iron and will last forever. We see no reason to dispose of them. We of course hope you enjoy how the apartment looks, but please carefully look through the pictures BEFORE you come to determine whether or not you can accept or appreciate the design choices that were made. There’s always room for improvement, and we do hope to make more updates in the future when our budget allows. We trust that you will be respectful of our space and design choices.
*** Some of the above statements may seem redundant or unnecessary. However, with the rising cost of fees and taxes applied (that we unfortunately have no control over), guests expectations are increasingly reaching an unattainable reality. This is not a 5 star hotel. This is our comfortable and convenient second home that we are happy to share with you.

We absolutely loved the vibe of this property for our family. We attended our daughter’s graduation from UGA Vet School and it was the perfect proximity to campus and downtown Athens. Kira thought of every detail to make our stay convenient. Thank you !!

Hi Amy, we apologize you didn’t receive the experience you were looking for. It is indeed an apartment in a college town, but we do our best to make every guest feel at home and welcome. Thanks for the feedback!
This Vrbo was booked very last minute, but the host was amazing! Her response was so quick to any and all concerns I had about booking. The directions to the complex were so easy to follow, as well as finding the apartment. The apartment was just the right size for us. I had a room to myself, while my son and his two kids shared a room.We each had a bathroom, which 2 bathrooms was the deal breaker! The kitchen was so conveniently supplied with all the right gadgets we needed to fix quick meals before touring UGA. I do think my favorite part was the price. We stayed in a 2BDRM 2Bath apartment for what we would have spent on a cheap motel! I have found my 2nd home for the next time I'm in Athens!

Thank you for your kind review, Ygnacia! We’re so glad y’all enjoyed the apartment and would love to host y’all again soon!
This is a great apartment located close to UGA. Clean house & well stocked kitchen. Just was helpful with suggestions and instructions! Would stay here again!
The apartment was great! Great location, great layout! We only stayed a weekend and were out seeing sights most of the time but when we were at the palce, we enjoyed it.The only downside was the upstairs neighbor was quite loud at times.
First, I want to note that prior to this particular stay my experience with VRBO has been excellent. I’ve trusted that the places I’ve rented would be good so I was no doubt astounded when i opened the door on the apartment at Appleby Drive. This put a new dimension in filthy. The reviews were all 9.6, 9.8. The kitchen stove had burnt crumbles of food in it all over, a dirty hand towel on the floor, the sofa in the living room had large gashes in the upholstery and adhesive tape on one armrest. The floor was littered with small animal droppings beside the sofa on the other side where someone had placed a pest deterrent. The sliding glass door wouldn’t latch so a metal bar had been placed to prevent opening the door. This was also true of the window next to it. The doors to bedrooms had a slate piece attached and chalk graffiti on all of them. The pillow cases removed, revealed large yellow stains and under the bed not swept. Lastly the porch or patio. Cobwebs everywhere. Someone had thrown something brown and disgusting on the wall, never cleaned We called the host who explained she had not seen the property in over a year for personal reasons. We did request a refund that evening but only received partial due to VRBO policy. I only hope VRBO reads this and is as disgusted as I am

Let’s address a few issues from our perspective, shall we? This was and is one of the worst guest experiences we have had in the 10 years since we started opening up our second home to others. Communication was not only wildly inconsistent, it was eventually downright dishonest to the point where we almost had to call the authorities to ask for the guest to be removed. Claims were made that may or may not have been truthful, it was hard to tell, but regardless, we hold ourselves to a high level of hospitality standards and always try to respectively address whatever situation arises. Did a previous guest let in a harmless, yet displaced, chipmunk? Yes. Did we think our cleaning team had gotten it out? Also yes. Were we mistaken? Unfortunately yes, but this information was given to the guest when I was initially called by Vrbo before the guest even arrived because the guest was unable to follow gps or the directions given to the apartment. Then I was called again and was on the phone with the guest as she walked into the apartment, at which point she was satisfied. The next day, accusations were made that the apartment (the one that frequently receives wonderful reviews from multiple guests a month) was, I quote, “unlivable.” The matters listed are not totally inaccurate. 1. The couch does have a few tears in it from being in a vacation rental. It’s pleather. That happens, but it’s not on the seating area and is a nice sectional that comfortably fits many people. 2. There may have been a cobweb outside. Our cleaning team and our pesticide service tackle those frequently, but spiders will be spiders. 3. The resin on the wall outside is from the management company’s pesticide services and won’t fully come off via scrubbing. We’re not allowed to touch up the exterior paint, so there it stays. 4. The pillows were in clean pillow cases as well as in zippered pillow covers. If one was yellow (it was unclear if the pictures were actually of our pillow), I appreciated this being brought to my attention so that I could address it with our cleaning team. I have purchased more just in case. 5. The clean kitchen towel on the floor by the laundry was an interesting claim because for all we know, it was placed there after check-in. Again, it became unclear… 6. The small amount of burnt food in the oven… Probably was there. There was a same day check out and check in that day, and our cleaning team do a great job getting everything clean and ready for the turnover. Perhaps this time, they missed wiping the inside of the oven. 7. The windows and doors are original to the complex. We do hope to replace them one day.
Nevertheless, after much going back and forth, the erraticism and inconsistency became a rather large concern, so I had to contact VRBO and immediately cancel the reservation and inquire what to do if things escalated, to which we were advised to contact the authorities, a situation we have quite literally never had as hosts. So long story short… It’s hard to rationalize with the irrational, and we have to trust that our years and years of good experiences will help future guests determine whether they’d like to enjoy our comfortable, convenient apartment. * One more thing- I never did say the timeline in which I hadn’t been to the apartment. The personal reason I haven’t been there in a few months is because we adopted a baby. :)
This cute apartment was a great place to stay when we came to Athens for our daughter’s UGA graduation. It was close to campus but even on grad night was quiet and away from traffic. The UGA decor is fun and the coffee selection was much appreciated! I wish we had found this place sooner!
Kira’s Athens apartment was perfect for our stay for All-State. Kira was very responsive to the questions I had prior to our arrival. The apartment was exactly as described and the location was excellent. I highly recommend staying here.

We stayed here a week with our baby and our in laws with their little one. The place is spacious and had plenty of supplies for our needs. Convenient location in a quieter area. We enjoyed our stay.
The condo was cute & was perfect for our stay in Athens. This was the only VRBO that provided toilet paper, paper towels, dish detergent & dish washer pods for the entire week. Much appreciation for the extras. The pool was across from the condo & very enjoyable. The owner responded quickly to any question. Thank You
Very comfortable stay. The area was quiet in July. Apartment as described. Great commuication from owners. Although it is on the first floor, the apartment entrance is not easily accessible for people with limited mobility. Other than that, our stay was great. Very close to downtown!
Cute, clean, affordable apartment in a nice complex. Quite spacious too. Short drive to UGA's campus. The owner was great and easy to work with.

About the host
Hosted by Kira King
We are a University of Georgia alumni that fell in love with Athens so much that we just couldn't leave for good.
Why they chose this property
We live in our hometown of Savannah, Georgia but purchased an apartment in Athens in the same complex that we lived in throughout our college years. It's our home away from home, and we're happy to share it! Our hope is that our guests enjoy our apartment and the city of Athens as much as we do. It's such a unique town that just has so much to offer for all ages.
What makes this property unique
Our apartment is walking distance to downtown Athens and Sanford Stadium.
