About this property
SALT WATER MAINE COTTAGE WITH DOCK - MINUTES TO BOTANICAL GARDENS
Morning Star Cottage is the perfect year-round Maine vacation rental! This Victorian custom-built home is situated on a narrow peninsula, affording sunrise and sunset water views from the porches and the third-floor balcony. A small cobble beach can be accessed at low tide for wading, shelling, and sunning. An easy kayak launch from this location provides exploration of the near and distant islands as well as a close look at the seals, loons, and lobster boats which inhabit the surrounding waters.
The Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens, the largest botanical garden in New England is just 1/2 mile from this home. The CMBG is a horticultural gem and is considered one of the Maine's premier natural attractions.
Beautifully appointed with vintage and antique furnishings, this seaside home comes equipped with every amenity anyone could want for a truly carefree and memorable vacation.
A new deep water dock, shared only with owners' other home next door is now in place! Relaxing on the float, feels just like being in a boat.
All of our guests have raved about the accommodations and the spectacular views at our cottage. We choose to inform all of our potential guests that our property is adjacent to a grass and gravel long term parking area. The area is for residents of a small off shore island community called the Isle of Springs. We have been renting Morning Star Cottage for twelve years and have never had a single complaint about it. Everyone who spends time at Morning Star Cottage loves it, and we are confident you will too!
Family Reunions and Special Occasions
Morning Star Cottage is located next to Little Dipper Cottage, both of which have fabulous waterfront locations. These homes can be reserved jointly for a fabulous family reunion, anniversay, or birthday celebration.

About the host
Hosted by George Hervochon or Anni Pat McKenney

George left his job on Wall Street in 1975 after picking up a newspaper left on an empty seat of his commuter train. He read about "owner-built homes training" in midcoast Maine and decided to build our home and move there with our two young daughters. We purchased 130 acres and built our home in Newcastle, which is located about 20 miles from Boothbay Harbor.
Just a few months after moving into our home, a nice young couple knocked on the door and asked George if he would build them a house just like ours. He agreed and continued to build homes, under the company name of "Hervochon Construction" for the next 39 years!
We have remained in the Damariscotta/Newcastle area all this time, although we moved into different houses built by my husband.
George has designed and built a variety of styles to suit many clients over the years. The project he is most proud of is St. Patrick's new church in Newcastle, of which he is a member. We give God the glory for that blessing!
I am a retired elementary school teacher, and George has turned the building business over to our daughter AnniPat, and our son-in-law. We stay busy with our two summer rentals, and our three grandchildren.
