Between Cody & Yellowstone Lodging & Fishing on The Shoshone River - Listing #2
READ CAREFULLY!! This lower level unit is one of two rental units available at Wilde River Ranch. This unit is a walk out basement unit located on the lower level of the main house. You do not share any common spaces with the owners but you are within the same home. We try to be very respectful and quiet but we do live here full time. It is located in the Spectacular Wapiti Valley which is approximately 16 miles from Cody and 35 miles from the East Entrance of Yellowstone National Park.
*note, this unit is within the owner’s home, but is completely separate and private from the owner’s living quarters. You will not share any spaces with the owners.
ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING ON THE PROPERTY OR IN THE UNITS. We apologize for the inconvenience but we live in the very dry area and wildfires are a huge concern.
We recommend bringing your own steaming device (Apple TV, Amazon Firestick, Roku, etc.) if you want to watch TV during your visit. We do not have cable on the property. But we do provide a TV with an HDMI connection.
*PER WYOMING FISHING REGULATIONS, FISHING SEASON ON OUR SECTION OF THE RIVER IS JULY 1-MARCH 31. NO FISHING IS PERMITTED ON THE PROPERTY PRIOR TO JULY 1. Other areas of Cody and the river can be accessed for fishing.
Lodging faces the Shoshone River with easy access to it's own private trout fishing experience. This lower level walk-out basement lodging is approximately 2000 square feet with large sliding glass door private entrance for wonderful sounds as it faces the Shoshone River. This unit also has its own parking area. The kitchen is spacious and is fully equipped with full size appliances and has a large dining area adjacent for large seating capacity, as well as an outdoor table and grill for barbecuing, featuring views of the Shoshone River and surrounding mountain landscape. This unit has one full bath and one split bath (shower/sink in laundry room and toilet under the stairs - which is kind of fun for kiddos - we call it the Harry Potter Potty) - with it's own private laundry area featuring a full sized washer and dryer. The unit has a total of two king beds, one queen bed, as well as twin bunk beds.

Owners are friendly accommodating and place is in the perfect spot to see the wildlife. Only 15 minutes from town so you can get the groceries and whatever else you need for your stay. I would stay there again i. A heart beat!
Great space and location. Although an hour from Yellowstone Park, the drive is beautiful, so just know this needs to be planned in with your park activities. The stream behind the house is beautiful and the home owners let us borrow fishing poles. We didn't catch anything, but it was fun trying. In the house, it is a bit dated, but overall comfortable. We did contact the home owners and they were very responsive and friendly. The home is well equipped but we couldn't find a few things, so they just stopped by the local Wal-mart and bought us new items to use. This was a great place to stay with friendly people to help when needed.
Jake and Adrienne were amazing! This property is beautiful, clean, spacious and in a great location. Thank you for a wonderful week….we will be back!

We absolutely loved having you and your family! Thank you for staying with us and see ya next time! Also, thank you for the very kind review. We appreciate it so much.
The only reason for a 4 star is we didn’t know we were just in the basement of the home. Very friendly and accommodating. We were very busy and pretty much just slept there. The beds were very comfortable!

So sorry for the misunderstanding as the description did state that it was the lower level, 2,000 square feet with private entrance and large windows etc....
The ranch was an amazing place to stay! Adrienne was very quick and friendly with any communication. We had plenty of room for our families (4 adults, 6 kids). The kids loved the air hockey table and the games! We spent a lot of time by the river (it was a little high to swim and fish due to rain). The lower level really didn't feel like a lower level with the way it is set up. The kitchen was well-stocked with everything you might need. We used the grill several times too. The location was the best, being about halfway between Cody and Yellowstone and very near Buffalo Bill Reservoir. We loved this place and would definitely stay again!

Thank you so much for your lovely review! It means a lot to us. We really enjoyed having you and your family and we hope to see you again in the future!!
We very much enjoyed our stay in Wapiti and the new property owners were awesome! They were very attentive to our needs and answered our questions in record time. We even had freshly baked cookies upon our arrival. Location is a huge plus as were the washer and dryer.
We were traveling in a large group (11) and should have rented the other unit as well. While there was enough room to sleep, there was little privacy and not a lot of room to mill around. Fortunately, we were out a lot and this did not have much of an impact on our trip.
I am excited to see new owners make improvements and would stay again with a smaller group. Thanks again!

Thank you so much for your review, Jean!! We really enjoyed having you guys - sorry that you felt the space didn’t have much privacy! I can understand that completely. In the future we do hope to make improvements! We figure it’s a great home base to all the wonderful things this area has to offer and that most people will spend their time out by the river or doing activities, which you guys definitely did!! We hope to have you again sometime!!! Xo Adrienne

Shocking
They don't understand handicapped accessible, the bathroom totally wasn't, you couldn't even get a wheelchair in it. The pans must've come from a second hand store, there was no nonstick left on them. The oven would shock you any time you touched the metal and the tub/shower combo wasn't clean. On the upside the beds were clean and comfortable, the price not terrible for such a large group, and the area beautiful.

Unit can be accessed by wheelchair (no stairs and fairly open floorplan) but does not claim to be a fully wheelchair accessible unit. Guests should inquire prior to staying so as not to be surprised if their particular wheelchair isn't able to access parts of the unit. Pans are used and abused by many guests who come to stay. Didn't know about oven, thanks for alerting me. Shower/tub is cleaned/scrubbed after every guest stay. We have very hard water, and it leaves white streaks which are more obvious because tub/shower is not white. Glad you were happy with beds and price.
We arrived on 7/1 did the whole Yellowstone thing for a few days and did some fly fishing up river. Rarely did we ever have sufficient cell service unless we were in the home which was fine until we realized we missed an Important message from the property owners. When the stove went out on 7/5 I went to send them a message at which point I noticed a message from them sent on 7/1 advising that a Grizzly Bear was suspected on the property and that the WY DNR put a Trap in one of the corals about 50yds from our door. That was alarming, 4 days of my 3 boys stomping around the river and I had no idea the WY DNR was actively trying to lure a Grizzly bear into a trap right outside our door. When I suggested that they should have taken extra steps to make sure that particular message was received she basically said; no thats not how we do things. I guess my feeling is when your property goes from "Being in Grizzly Country" to "Being ground Zero for a Grizzly Trapping operation" maximum effort in communicating that in a timely manner should be a priority of the host. Her response was Nah check you VRBO app. Also they view ongoing construction projects starting at 0800 as part of sharing a home"with them. The river is not worth fishing at their location much better spots upstream and there are other awesome places to stay where the owners wont be so non-chalant about communicating if the DNR winds up having to try and lure in Americas Most Deadly predator 50yds from your door.

To those who missed the signs in every store; the safety billboards; the tourism and marketing material; and is on a whim visiting Yellowstone without ever having heard of the area or studied basic American Geography – we are in grizzly country! But not to worry; if your only education about grizzly bears came from “America’s Most Deadly Predator,” rest assured that you can visit the most beautiful place in America while only being mildly inconvenienced by our native grizzly bears. Hollywood may paint a dramatic picture, but there are actually people who LIVE here, including us!
Make no mistake, as Adam pointed out, and as was likely emphasized at every place he visited on his vacation here, this is indeed “Grizzly Country.” For the unknowing, that means they ALSO live here. That is why bear spray is sold in every shop in Cody and Yellowstone. That is why we provide bear spray for the use of guests during their stay in the unit. That is why there are signs everywhere to carry bear spray. And that is why we recommend that people follow basic bear-awareness techniques every moment they are outside.
Of course, these are not drastic measures: don’t leave food outside; carry bear spray (and know how to use it); look around when you step outside; and don’t venture away from people alone. These are basic rules that everyone lives by here. Grizzly bears are regularly encountered by humans, they live among us, and with the slightest amount of common sense, 99% of people don’t have an issue with them.
When grizzly bears decide to remain in a single particular developed area, they are typically captured and relocated so that they do not become desensitized to humans. This is a routine task performed by Wyoming Game and Fish (WGF) (there is no “DNR” in Wyoming). Contrary to Adam’s characterization as “actively trying to lure a grizzly bear” into “ground zero,” WGF simply places a trap in the vicinity in the event that the bear returns to an area possibly visited. If the bear is caught, it is relocated. In this instance, the bear never returned (if it had ever even visited in the first place).
Potential visitors should take notice: we have previously had a guest send us pictures of a grizzly bear standing right outside the door to their unit. They were thrilled to capture the moment on camera! They waited about five minutes for it to leave before walking to their car. But a native grizzly bear existing in its natural habitat is not cause for concern here; it’s just another day in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
We have had nothing but flawless comments regarding our communication; indeed, this is the only such complaint in our history of reviews. We ALWAYS communicate concerns to guests in an appropriate manner. Grizzly bears on the property do not constitute a special occasion; they can and do show up at any moment, and are easy to coexist with. If that makes you concerned for your safety, we recommend you vacation elsewhere.

The cleanliness inside was in general ok. My friend checked the grill outside, there was still meat in there. I didn't look at it. I don't know how long it was in there.
The pellet stove would not start, ended up using the internal heating.
When we returned one evening there were wood particles on the kitchen sink. I didn't know where they came from. I could only deduce they came from up inside the cabinets, in between them. My friend thought it was possibly termites? I would recommend checking the dishes to see if they are clean, 2 plates that we took from the cupboard were still dirty with dried food.
We were not allowed to bring pets, friends declined coming because they couldn't bring their dog, yet there are animals at the house. They have cats, which I break out from and we were not told there would be cats. There are also horses, to which I am allergic to. I didn't get near enough to them to cause a reaction.
It does have room for 10 people. Our original party was 7, and we would have all been comfortable in the place. That would have been a plus.
I will not be staying here again though. It is a 3-mile dirt-road drive to get to the house.

To future guests in response to this review:
Our units are always cleaned thoroughly between guests, but I am not perfect, and I make mistakes. Guests are 100% responsible for their own dishes, and I do not always check every dish to be sure they have been cleaned properly. Note to myself to do so. But based on my many 5 star reviews, you can see this is one of those one offs.
I am allowed to own pets and have them in my own home. I am allowed to not allow guests to bring their pets into a unit where many others will be staying, not only for allergy purposes, but for cleanliness. Our pet policy is stated very clearly and I don’t make exceptions to that policy to be thoughtful to other guests staying in the future. That being said, my cats live in MY house, COMPLETELY separate from guests quarters and are not allowed in the units, ever. So I’m not really sure what this particular guest is talking about. There were never any cats in the unit.
There are no termites in this unit. The cabinets (which were installed prior to us purchasing the home) started shedding dust after an upgrade we made to the ceiling/lighting last year and that is something that needs to be addressed during this off season. When the cabinets are slammed hard, some of the renovation dust (we all know how long it takes to get rid of that stuff!) settles and falls from the top of the cabinets. Regardless of sticking a vacuum up there multiple times, I can’t seem to get it all! 😅
The pellet stove is for winter. Not summer. And it is EXTREMELY finicky. That is why I ask my guests to use the baseboard heating.
Finally, this is a ranch, and there are animals here (horses, donkeys, chickens, cats) So if you are allergic to animals, don’t stay here. Most of our guests really enjoy them! But if you aren’t cut out for staying on a ranch or driving on a beautiful country back road (the main road to the house is paved, our driveway is gravel), then please don’t stay here.
Unfortunately this guest didn’t enjoy ranch life and that’s ok. I think some guests like to pick things apart when they are unhappy or something doesn’t initially go their way (in this case it was me saying no to them having a dog). That’s unfortunate because I’ve had so many guests stay here and enjoy themselves!
I just wanted to clarify a few things and set the record straight, since I think some things were falsely claimed and misconstrued in this review. Thanks to all my wonderful guests this year!!

Family Trip
I was not going to leave a review since I couldn’t say toms of great things, but the more I thought about it I decided to so someone else isn’t as surprised. Area is perfect, and beautiful!! The place recently had a renovation in the kitchen. However the stove every time you would touch it you would get shocked. Contacted the owner who did offer to come and check it when we we’re gone and was told it had never happened to them. I did not let them come in as I wasn’t going to let someone in the property without us being there. We did not know the property was the basement and that it was owner occupied. Had we known that I may have stayed elsewhere. They had a cat inside the upstairs part of the house who would put their paws under the door constantly. Just glad no one was allergic but this is not listed anywhere until you get to the place. The second toilet is located under the stairs and isn’t really a bathroom like it is listed as a two bath. The bunk area there is no privacy from the living and kitchen area which was a bummer. The owner’s parents were staying at the house the week we rented it and they decided at 6am to vacuum. The walked very loudly and you could hear conversations at times. It just wasn’t what I would expect from a rental and I was very disappointed. We tried to only be there to sleep and shower due to all of this. All in all we had a great vacation in Cody!!

Heather, we are so sorry you were so disappointed in your stay. Admittedly, the layout of our unit downstairs is a bit odd - we are not the ones who designed the home or layout. But we love our home so much, and what I love most is sharing it with others. It truly brings me joy to share my home and property and beautiful Cody and the Wapiti Valley with people who may not otherwise be able to ever visit here. My husband and I host foreign exchange students during the school year and my sweet and wonderful parents were caring for our home while we went and visited our exchange students and their families in their home countries. I’m so sorry you felt that your stay wasn’t adequate. And yes, we have 3 sweet little kitties who live in our home and just want to be involved with anyone who visits our home. My husband and I generally keep them upstairs away from the guests, but my parents didn’t know that they needed to do that, and that is our fault for not conveying the importance of that to them. I apologize. We’re sorry about the stove, again, we still haven’t been able to get to the bottom of that, haven’t experienced it for ourselves - and have even gone down there between guest stays to try to see if we can experience for ourselves! Very odd! I think it’s pretty normal for a VRBO unit to run into issues during a stay and to have an owner or maintenance person go into the unit to fix something. The kitchen was not what was renovated, actually. That was exactly as it was when we bought the home May of 2021. We just removed the drop ceiling and horrific florescent lighting and redid the ceiling in drywall and added recessed lighting. We also gave it a nice fresh coat of paint. My mother vacuumed up a small mess for about 30 seconds one morning and immediately let me know that she was so sorry and didn’t even think about it. I relayed her apology to you. She doesn’t normally live in a home with VRBO guests to think about and she was extremely apologetic. So overall, your complaints are valid, of course. Anyone is entitled to their opinions. However, at the end of the day, we just try to provide a nice, clean place for people to sleep and as a home base for visiting Cody and Yellowstone. Again, we are sorry you were so disappointed. Thank you for your honest review.
We did not get the pleasure of meeting Adrienne and her husband. We did meet her mother and while there were some small issues they were minor and quickly taken care of. As Beautiful as the place was right on the river still comes second to the family you will meet while staying there.
The location between Cody and the Yellowstone was perfect! If you like to fish this is the perfect place as we caught several different species of trout. There was six of us and it was plenty of room. Will definitely try to stay here again!
Wonderful! Jake and Adrienne were so friendly and helpful!
The house was right by the Shoshone river which was very enjoyable several times through our trip. It was a great location to stay at and go all directions site seeing!
The location is ideal for visiting Cody, Yellowstone and the surrounding area. The property is very nice and the living space was spacious and clean. We enjoyed the river, although October is not a time to fish this river, as we learned the trout have gone to deep water for the coming cold weather. We were blessed with great weather for October - the weather was cool and crisp, and the Aspen trees were at their peak Fall color. Thank you Adrienne and Jake for sharing your home with us!
Great location between Yellowstone east entrance and Cody. Beautiful views, quiet location, and great property located on the Shoshone River. The owner is very friendly and accommodating. The room layout is a little eclectic, but it definitely served our needs. Would definitely stay there again.
Great spot. The Shoshone River to fish is in the backyard, a short walk. Very comfortable accommodation for the 5 of us, super clean place. Would certainly return.
Thank you,
Steven
Adrienne is quick to respond to request and questions. Great clean house, plenty of room for 6 adults and 4 kids, beautiful scenery. It’s in a great location close to Yellowstone and Cody. If I ever get a chance to go back to Yellowstone I will most definitely be booking with Adrienne again. Thanks again Adrienne and Jake!
This was a perfect place for our family and my sisters family to stay.
Great location! We enjoyed Yellowstone, Cody, and the house is wonderful for fishing in the area. The house was perfect for our family and kids. Very clean and comfortable. Host was easy to get in touch with and very quick to respond to my questions. We would totally stay there again and recommend it to friends.
Thanks

We are so lucky to be living on this beautiful property and sharing it with our guests. Please be kind. This is our home and we put in a lot of love and effort to share it with others. We do live on the property, in the main house. We live here full time and renting our part of our home helps us to afford to live here. This is part of our income.
Why they chose this property
It’s beautiful and quiet and more remotely located from Cody.
