Four Season Retreat in Beautiful Bete Grise

Ideal for families, couples or a group of friends, this four season retreat delivers the rustic charm of Upper Michigan, along with the decadent comforts of a luxury cottage.

In the evening, indulge in the beauty of “UP” sunsets from the cottage's wraparound 1000 sq ft deck or from the upper floor loft with floor-to-ceiling windows and forest views.

Walk across the road in the morning to catch a truly stunning sunrise over Lake Superior, while watching fishing boats head out for the day. There is no better place to enjoy your coffee!

Chefs will be pleased with the well-equipped, spacious kitchen, boasting a large island, induction stovetop, complimentary kitchen staples, coffee and tea, dining seating for up to 12, as well as a Weber gas grill, charcoal grill and Traeger smoker.

Enjoy the convenience of a private dock for fishing, kayaking or canoeing, with a public marina nearby for larger boats. The cottage includes access to a canoe and four kayaks.

The traditional sauna offers space for guests to relax, while enjoying the restorative benefits of sauna.

Living areas include a family room with cast iron gas fireplace and television, connected to a sunroom with forest views and comfortable seating for end of day conversations and cocktails.

The cottage offers a main floor master suite, with a full bath and walk-in shower. There is also a half bath conveniently located in the large entryway, adjacent to a mud room with shelving for equipment and gear. There are two bedrooms on the upper floor, with one offering a single queen bed and the other offering two full beds. The upper floor loft area also provides the option of a twin size sleeper chair. The upper floor bedrooms share a full bath with shower/tub combination. The lower floor provides another bedroom with a queen bed, full size sleeper sofa, as well as another half bath with a shower in the sauna. New mattresses, quality linens, towels, bedding and toiletries are the finishing touches to the exceptional bed and bath accommodations.

The lower floor also provides access to a well-appointed fitness area and laundry machines, with an exterior door leading to the outdoor amenities.

Stay connected and entertained with reliable high-speed satellite internet, a bluetooth Alexa Soundbar, and a Smart TV with Netflix, YouTube TV and Disney+.

This place was amazing for a family gathering of 4 retired siblings and spouses. The kitchen was fully equipped, with cozy places to hang out and visit. And we walked the beach and neighborhood, kayaked the waterway, enjoyed the fire pit and gazed at the stars. With the Fall colors in full display, we had the best time. And did I say this was the cleanest place ever?

We had an excellent stay! The home was spotless, comfortable, and fully stocked with everything we needed. Check-in was easy, communication with the host was seamless, and the location couldn’t have been better. We loved all the nearby outdoor activities—beach days, drifting on the river, hiking, and biking. The setting was absolutely beautiful and so peaceful; we especially loved falling asleep to the sound of the waves from Lake Superior each night. A beautiful house and grounds, right on a very private-feeling waterway, and steps away from a clean sandy beach. Best stocked kitchen and rental overall that I or any of my friends have ever seen. Weather was rough and cell coverage in the area is poor, but we wanted to "get away" and this was perfect for that. Would love to return and stay again.

We stayed here with extended family for a long weekend and it was nothing short of perfect! The home was beautiful, and as well stocked as an VRBO we've ever stayed at!! The property was also wonderful and the lagoon was warm enough to swim in. A short 2-min drive to a beautiful Lake Superior beach for a change of pace (and much cooler dip!). This is a beautiful and cozy property with many great amenities. We had a large group and we never felt like we were on top of each other. Plenty of great space for a relaxing getaway from the daily grind. I would rate this place with six stars if I could. Even more important than the amenities of the property, the host is very thoughtful and gracious. Providing a well equipped kitchen, a laundry room and and well stocked cleaning supplies. I can't say enough good things about this property.

Mount Bohemia Ski Trip

The property is amazing and the house is beautiful! We were about 5 miles from Mount Bohemia which worked out perfect! Kelly was very responsive with any questions we had and again, the place was beautiful - very cozy and welcoming. You can tell she really took the time to plan out the necessities and provide extras that can be difficult to pack (waters on the nightstands were so thoughtful). We loved the fireplace and thoroughly enjoyed the sauna. We would recommend this place without a doubt!

Bete Grise Couples Trip

We had an amazing time at this property. It was a unanimous comment amongst our group that this home was the cleanest and most well-stocked place we have ever stayed at. We enjoyed grilling together, playing games in the four seasons room and telling stories by the fire. 10/10 would recommend any friend or family group book their vacation to the upper peninsula here.

Stunning location and cabin!

This is truly a special place. We celebrated our parents 50th wedding anniversary with kids and grandkids and couldn’t have picked a better place. The cabin itself was beautiful - clean, well-appointed and welcoming. But the location takes the cake with so many options for enjoying nature and days on the water just outside your door. Thanks to Kelly for being a great host and creating this slice of paradise. Amazing!

A former Calumet native with a lifelong love of the area, I returned to the Keweenaw regularly to visit family. I worked here remotely throughout 2020 and have now decided to live here full-time. I am grateful broadband access enables me to live and work from the shores of Lake Superior. I know the area well and am happy to share this special area of the country with others.

The cottage is centrally located on the incredible Keweenaw Peninsula, where you’ll enjoy wondrous beauty and countless activities.

Summer activities include world class mountain biking, swimming, agate picking, kayaking and hiking.

Explore local history, including Fort Wilkins in nearby Copper Harbor, mine history and tours, lighthouse tours and beautiful architecture in Calumet.

A driving tour of the peninsula takes you around the coastline with many interesting stops to enjoy local people, art, food and nature.

Or stay in Bete Grise to enjoy all that it offers: a pristine sandy beach, excellent hiking, berry picking, nature, clear starry nights (and northern lights, if you're lucky) and family beach days with gear provided, including wagon, beach chairs, towels, umbrella and coolers.

Ranked in the top ten for Fall Foliage in the US by Fodor's - the colors are exceptional and peak in late September through mid-October. The cottage is five minutes from Mount Bohemia, which offers extreme skiing and adventure for backcountry skiers and boarders.

What makes this property unique

The cottage is located on a private road with lagoon access for quiet fishing, kayak launching and beautiful sunsets. And the short walk across the road to Bete Grise Beach on Lake Superior, made this the perfect location.

I purchased the cottage in early 2020 and completed renovations in spring 2022. Over the two years I spent renovating the cottage, I thought about what would make me feel comfortable while vacationing. I ensured my guests would have everything they might need - from laundry detergent to kitchen utensils, and so much more! No detail escaped my consideration. And, as a native who lives and works in the area, I’m available to lend recommendations and support, as needed during your retreat.
