About this property
Copper Harbor - The Ultimate In Scenery & Seclusion On Brockway Mountain
This spacious mountain chalet house is perfect for your winter or summer vacation whether you are planning for high adventure or quiet seclusion. Located on Brockway Mountain and ONLY ACCESSIBLE BY SNOWMOBILE OR ATV DURING WINTER AND EARLY SPRING. This property is a perfect winter or summer stargazing, off-road adventure, and relaxation.
PLEASE NOTE: From December 1st until after "spring thaw", the access road to this property (Brockway Mt Drive) closes and becomes part of the snowmobile and ATV trail systems until the road reopens in the spring. Usually starting April 1st until early May, the property is only accessible via side-by-side or ATV. When Brockway Mt. Dr. is closed, guest vehicle parking is in Copper Harbor at the Copper Harbor Retreat next to the gas station. DAILY GROUP TRANSPORTATION FROM/TO COPPER HARBOR IS INCLUDED WITH YOUR RESERVATION. Please contact your host, Mark, to arrange transportation between the parking area and the Chalet for people and/or gear.
This chalet is perched atop Brockway Mountain and surrounded by nature conservancy land. This pristine 20-acre retreat, only 3 miles from Copper Harbor, offers stunning panoramic views of Lake Superior and the surrounding wilderness. Here is where you can enjoy inspiring sun and moon rises, amazing stargazing, Great Lakes freighters, and the Northern Lights show. Or just lose yourself in the peace and serenity of nature while relaxing on the wrap around deck or in front of the stone fireplace.
ABOUT THE AREA:
Explore all that Copper Harbor and the Keweenaw Peninsula have to offer. In Copper Harbor you will find several unique shops offering local rocks and minerals such as agates, green stones, datolite, copper, local artwork and souvenirs.
Enjoy fine dining at the Harbor Haus and Mariner North, craft beer at the Brickside Brewery. Hike to Hunters Point or the Estivant Pine trail where you will pass hundreds of massive old growth pine. Drive to the top of Brockway Mountain for incredible views of Copper Harbor and beyond. Visit Fort Wilkins Historical State Park, which preserves the restored 1844 military outpost. Play a few rounds of disc golf or regular golf at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. For the Mountain Biking enthusiasts - Copper Harbor Mountain Bike Trails were designated as an International Mountain Biking Association (IMBA) Silver Level “Ride Center” in October of 2012. Ranked among the top 5 trail systems in the world at that time...
Keweenaw Adventure Company offers shuttle service (and bike rental) for those that prefer to focus on the adrenaline rush from the downhill biking as opposed to the leg and lung challenging uphill. They also offer kayak tours and rentals. Charter a guide service and catch your limit of Lake trout on Lake Superior, or fish from the boat launch or shore of the Harbor. Lake Manganese, Lake Fanny Hooe, and Lake Medora are all within a few miles as well and offer a variety of species of fish.
Lac La Belle, home to Mount Bohemia and 900 vertical feet of the most extreme downhill skiing and snowboarding in the Midwest and possibly the best place to view the fall colors, is only 13 miles away.
Eagle Harbor (14 miles south on M26) offers excellent fishing in the Harbor or at Lake Eliza. Mount Baldy nature conservancy trail is a must hike for those who enjoy a bit of a workout that will be rewarded with an amazing view of Eagle Harbor, Lake Superior, and beyond. The Eagle Harbor Township trails offer peaceful scenic hiking in summer and snow shoeing/cross country skiing in winter.
17 miles south on M-26 is Great Sand Bay, where you will find a pristine sand beach and protected sand dunes. This is a great location for viewing freighters pass by on Lake Superior, scuba diving or snorkeling to explore the copper veins below the water, kite surfing, or relaxing and soaking up the sun.
