This spacious house has almost always been the home of a doctor, beginning with Dr Dwyer in the 1920's, Dr Carlson in the 1940's, and Dr Don and Dr Jane Gumprecht in 1951.
The Gumprecht children, three of whom are themselves doctors, now offer this gracious accommodation for your vacation enjoyment. Situated in the historic, peaceful Fort Grounds Neighborhood, it is right in the middle of all that makes Coeur d'Alene famous.
The neighborhood was born before the automobile, when everyone walked. It remains within easy walking distance of most everything. Confirm this by doing a map search of Military Drive. Then review the web sites of the CDA Visitors Bureau and the nearby Coeur d'Alene Resort for a complete run down of the area's attractions, close in and farther out, summer and winter.
If you can tolerate purple prose, read VRBO listing #185852 for further descriptions of neighborhood history. The Doctors' Inn has been refurbished with one new and one renovated bathroom (the half bath retains its 1957 pink glory). The kitchen appliances are new.
There are now 3 cable TV's, Broadband, a game room with foosball, Wii, board games, cards, toys, and the like. Sleeping space is ample and we are pleased with the preparations made to accommodate families with small children. We intend for everyone to have a vacation of cherished memories.

Great house with a bit of 70s nostalgia included. Clean, fully stocked kitchen, accommodating host, lots of water toys and just steps from the beach. Family loved it.
We enjoyed our stay at the Doctor's Inn. The location is superb and the house worked well for our large group.
We would definitely stay there again when in town.

Thank you for your kind words. I hope in the future you be sure to visit Hudsons’ Hamburgers, visit Silverwood, walk Tubb’s Hill, bike the Trail of the Hiawatha. Also there are stand up paddle boards and kayaks in the garage. They can be taken by the little trolley and put in the lake opposite 613 W. Lakeshore drive (my brother’s house and beach). Also. Coeur d’Alene is a great base for winter skiing. Please come again to The Doctors’ Inn of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Thank you for your kind words. I hope next time you visit you have warm weather such that you can use the kayaks and stand up paddleboards in the garage. There is a small trolley to assist taking them up to the lake. They can be put in opposite 613 W. Lakeshore Drive----that is my brother's house and you can put in and use his beach. Always consider Silverwood and the Trail of the Hiawatha bike experience. A Tubb's hill walk and Hudsons' hamburger are a Coeur d'Alene visit musts. Also, in winter there are ski opportunities. Silver Mountain in Kellogg is 30 minutes away and Schweitzer basin an hour. Cd'A is a good base for a ski trip. Please come again to the Doctors' Inn of Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.
Our family had a great time staying at the Doctors’ Inn! The house is spacious and well equipped. The location is awesome and walking distance to the beach, parks, downtown. Highly recommend staying here, and would love to come back again in the future!

I can't recommend this house enough for family vacations.

We enjoyed our stay at this property. It not only is very close to the beach and city park, but also it is a very spacious home that offers everything you may need for your stay. The house is very clean, communication with property manager was quick and effective. We did not have any problems with anything. It was very interesting to also get to know the history of this home. Would highly recommend.
We loved staying at this home! My kids loved all of the nooks and crannies, and all of the stairs and rooms. Perfect location! Close to the lake and to town. Fast responses and easy to communicate with owners. We loved it here!

Charming place with a wonderful history. Plenty of room for all 10 of us. Accommodating for children but not great for the elderly because of a lot of stairs. Well appointed.

Love love love the Doctor’s Inn. I hesitate to write a raving review because selfishly I don’t want to ever lose our annual spot here. This home is a walk back into simpler, lovely, family times. We refer to this house and town as “Our happy place”. Roni, remember to keep our yearly spot please please please!

Thanks for your kind words. Like you, I feel that I walk back into a nice, quiet American small town neighborhood when I stay at my house. The Fort Sherman Chapel, the college, the park, the beach and the shore walks all give it a special atmosphere. I hope that you used the paddleboards and kayaks in the garage. They can be taken by the little trolley and put in the lake opposite 613 Lakeshore Drive which is my brother's beach. Also I hope you did a Tubb's Hill walk, a Mineral Ridge hike, Silverwood, the Hiawatha trail bike ride and of course Hudsons' Hamburgers. Come again to the Doctors' Inn of Coeur d'Alene.

Great location, house was good. Room for everyone.
We have been to Coeur de Alene before and love it. So many things to do there. As for the house, fantastic location. We were not able to us the bedroom on the 3rd floor because it was to warm, no air conditioning. The house itself was great. Great memories were made at this home.
This was our third time staying at the Dr's Inn, and once again, it did not disappoint. The house is a delightful throwback to the 70's and 80's, which we absolutely love. It's spacious, comfortable, and impeccably clean. Everything we needed was right there, making our stay incredibly convenient and stress-free.
The neighborhood is terrific, adding to the overall experience. We highly recommend this house to anyone looking for a comfortable and nostalgic stay in Coeur d'Alene. We'll definitely be back!
Lovely period home like walking back in time but charming through and through. This home had a well-stocked kitchen, comfy beds, and tons of space, and was a hit with our family during our reunion in Couer D'Alane this summer. No need to drive to the beach as a short walk brings you to the water's edge in 5 minutes. Would reccommend this for all ages of family members.

Thank you for your kind words. I had my handicap check the BBQ tanks. The first was indeed empty (sorry). He said the spare tank was full but the connection had not been tightened enough for the needle to penetrate and release the propane flow. I hope you tried Silverwood, Hudson’s Hamburgers, A Tubbs Hill walk, and a bike ride on the Trail of the Hiawatha. Also I hope you knew that there was a corn hole game lawn game in the garage. There are stand up paddle boards and kayaks in the garage that can be taken by the little trolley and put in opposite 613 Lakeshore Drive (my brother’s house and beach up the street). We LOVED this property. It is right in the middle of everything. You can walk to the beach, park, downtown, everything. Roni was extremely understanding when we had an unfortunate incident (sick baby) early on the morning of our departure. Roni was available to answer any and all questions immediately. There were so many dishes, the kitchen has everything you need. Enough towels for days! Thank you for sharing your property with us, Roni.

Great Family Vacation Home
Our 3 generation family just completed our vacation at the DOCTOR's Inn. This home is very clean, very spacious and extremely well-located to everything we enjoy doing. Everything you need is provided.
There was plenty of space for everyone including a basement bedroom and bathroom, perfect for a teenager.
The laundry facilities were wonderful and very helpful when traveling with young children or flying in from a long distance and you need to travel light.
The grandchildren loved the beautiful parks and beach, all within a very short walk from the home. The young adults could walk to the pier for parasailing and boating and we all enjoyed walking to the downtown area for the great restaurants and the occasional ice cream cone or snow one.
Though the home is older, it is maintained, including air-conditioning, and the owners are generous with what they provide for your use.
The price is right for the space, parking and location provided.
We look forward to returning!

About the host
Hosted by Roni Young
Dr Donald M. Gumprecht and Dr Jane Gumprecht purchased this house in 1951 and raised a family of four: Donald George, Ruth, Tom, and Ernest. The boys went on to become physicians and Ruth's daughter, Heather, is a physician as well. Interestingly, two prior doctors had owned the house earlier in the 20th century also. In order to keep the house in the family and preserve it for family gatherings, the Gumprecht children have decided to offer it for vacation rental. As such, it is suitable for use by other parties with similar needs, particularly families with children. Many small Gumprecht feet have padded their way to the beach, the park, and downtown.
Why they chose this property
The city of Coeur d'Alene grew next to Fort Sherman out of which eventually was subdivided the Fort Grounds neighborhood. This explains why the location of the Doctors' Inn is so close to all of the attractions that make Coeur d'Alend famous: the beach, the park, excursion boat rides, downtown shops and eateries to name a few. Of necessity everything was within walking distance in the early days and it remains so today.
What makes this property unique
6 bedrooms sleep 11 with 3 tv's a basement game room (tv, wii, foosball, airhockey board games, cards, toys). An ample dining room with large table, good-sized tv room, large living room, sun room with tv, proximity to the Coeur d'Alene Resort, all of the downtown and waterfront activities.
