On the main floor, you will find the living room, kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom with 2 comfortable twin beds. Upstairs is a spacious room with a king bed and a sitting area with a queen-sized futon. Note that upstairs is accessed by a set of steep stairs.

Vallecito Getaway
We had a great time in Vallecito staying in the rustic cabin. We were able to drive into Durango for the day and explore Mesa Verde and another day we rented a jeep and drove to Silverton to the ghost towns and mines. Shawn provides a fly fishing lesson for a fee if interested and we did that and the kids learned a lot from him! We had a great time watching them learn the art of fly fishing. He suggested a guide service for the lake and it was great! We tried fishing for Pike but didn't get any, but caught lots of trout! Shawn also gave us recommendations on restaurants to try out and we went to all the ones he suggested and they were terrific! He is very kind and let us borrow his ice chest since we forgot ours. The only draw backs are that you can't fish in the pond (which we understood, just want people to be aware) and that while the Vallecito creek is on the property it is a little hard to access and difficult to fish in because there is quite a bit of brush that your pole will get hung in. The lake and other parts of the river are a quick drive though so we did that. This area is very quiet and quaint and we loved sitting around the firepit at night talking about our day. A great way to unwind and unplug.

Perfect spot to explore Vallecito and Durango
Our family had a wonderful 3 nights at the Miners Cabin. Shawn and Sarah were so welcoming and friendly. They shared info on all the best spots to fish, run, hike and explore. Our boys loved hanging out with their boys... from biking together to explore the surroundings to sharing stories around the campfire. The cabin was super cosy with comfy beds and very well equipped. This is a really special place, made even better by the most wonderful hosts.

We are a family that loves traveling but we call the mountains our home base. We have lived in multiple countries and we always have come back to the Rocky Mountains. We like to garden, hike (forage), fish, and eat good food. On a good day, all of this can be accomplished right here in our backyard. We look forward to you staying here and getting to enjoy this piece of property as much as we do.

Why they chose this property

We bought this property in 2016 and have loved it so much that we want to share our experience of living here with others. Our guest cabin which we call the miner's cabin is a great cabin for a family vacation to get the opportunity to explore all that the beautiful Vallecito Valley has to offer. The national forest is only .1 miles from the house and there are multiple hiking trails in the area. As well as Vallecito Lake.

What makes this property unique

This property has lots to offer. The cabin is a quaint little rustic cabin that gives you that cozy feeling. Because the property is centrally located in Vallecito, we love to ride 4 wheeler up the middle mountain road and go on a picnic or go for evening bike rides with the kids around the neighborhood because it is easy riding on the gravel road and slow speed limits. There are 3 restaurants within a mile from the house and 2 general stores as well.
