In the summers, hike and bike the trails and mountains in Acadia National Park right from your door, walk down to the sandy beach of Seal Harbor, explore Bar Harbor and Southwest by boat or kayak. In the winters, cozy up by the fireplace, and enjoy the miles of cross country trails in the park. Bar Harbor stays open year round and the island is quiet and peaceful.
Unique in Seal Harbor, Passage West is a truly special place, ideal for those who appreciate historic homes, authentic to its 1920 design while updated with all the conveniences of the 21st century.
Situated on prestigious Ox Hill in Seal Harbor, and only 0.3 miles from Seal Harbor Beach, and less than a mile from the entrance to Acadia National Park, the home is perfect for biking, hiking, and kayaking on the ocean. Rental homes are hard to come by in this exclusive neighborhood as most summer residents stay and return year after year. This shingle style 1922 home has been completely restored and renovated, sparing no expense to maintain the prewar charm while updating the home with every modern comfort and convenience. The home faces south over the Eastern Way to Sutton and the Cranberry Isles, and west over the mouth of charming Seal Harbor with its library, yacht club, and harbor teeming with picturesque sailboats. There are spectacular water views from almost every room.
The home features a living room, dining room, family room, eat in kitchen, pantry, 6 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms, and multiple porches. Decorated by interior design firm Davis Designs (www.davisdesigns.com), the home has been featured in interior publications. Live in complete comfort while being a stone’s throw from acclaimed Acadia National Park.
Ride to the carriage trails from your front door or access every hiking trail within a 5 minute drive. The only sandy beach open to the public on Mount Dessert Island is within viewing distance from your front porch. Or just relax in the sunny screened in sun porch or any one of the multiple open-air porches and decks and breathe in the fresh ocean air and gorgeous uninterrupted views over the ocean.
** Note: The house has 6 bedrooms but we do not allow more than 5 adults to share the home. There are two primary bedrooms with gorgeous primary bathrooms, so the house is perfect for two families looking to share a vacation home. The other bedrooms are twin beds or full size beds and we do not allow those beds to be pushed together. We do not allow "share" houses or girls weekends or bachelor/bachelorette weekends.
***Please do not ask to check in early. We work hard to keep the home beautiful for every traveler, and we need the full time.

Our family really enjoyed staying here! Everything about the house was great! Very organized amenities and very comfortable beds. We were sad to leave.
The house was lovely, we enjoyed the eclectic decorations in a classic home. The kitchen was well supplied, included two washer and dryers which was so appreciated!

The property is in terrific shape and outfitted for a very relaxing time. It's near all the major MDI attractions but also very quite and private. Overall, a wonderful place to really "get away from it all"!

Our stay was absolutely perfect. This home is a quintessential Maine estate in Seal Harbor, elegant, peaceful, and beautifully restored. Each room was thoughtfully designed with incredible attention to detail, and the house had every amenity we could have possibly needed. We had a truly wonderful trip and only wish we could have stayed longer!! We cannot recommend this property enough and hope to return someday.

We had the most amazing trip to Maine and could not have hoped for a more PERFECT home to stay in! Kate has truly thought of everything. The house is so charming and the renovation is top notch. Designer touches, everywhere you look. The setting is gorgeous and we enjoyed reading on the large deck. Our group agreed that we would love to come back next year and I really hope we do!

Please do come back! Reading on the large porch looking at the Harbor is one of our favorite things to do too! Lovely photos. The fall is one of our favorite times in Maine.
The Home in Seal Harbor was the perfect destination for our family to explore Mount Desert Island. We were located near an entrance to Acadia National Park in a beautiful neighborhood. The newly renovated 1920s home was beautiful with all the amenities one could ask for. We loved it and hope to come back soon.
This property is stunning! Absolutely every detail is thought of to make your stay effortless. The quintessential coastal decor is fabulous. We spent most of our stay on the back porch enjoying the view of the harbor and gorgeous Maine weather. This was the loveliest VRBO we have ever stayed at and will definitely be back!

My husband and I stayed at this house with 2 other couples for a week. We loved the area, and the house is beautifully redone and decorated. It is provisioned well-- we made several dinners at home, and it had everything you might need. The view from the deck was lovely and so peaceful!

We agree! our favorite evening is a relaxing dinner on the porch overlooking a sunset in Seal Harbor. Please come again! Best, Kate
Fabulous house in an even more fabulous location. We really appreciated the fully stocked house and outdoor spaces. This was our first visit to Maine and it didn’t disappoint. 10 out of 10:)
This home is amazing! The kitchen is well stocked with all the kitchen necessities and the coffee/beverage areas were well equipped. Each bedroom has its bathroom. No need for air-conditioning even in August! Back balcony was extremely comfortable with the lounge set and the breeze.
This property is truly exceptional. Our family loved the thoughtful details, the stunning location, and the incredible views. During our 3-night stay, we walked to the beach and biked into Acadia National Park. We made the most of family meals, relaxed on the outdoor decks, and appreciated the peaceful setting. One night, the power went out in the area, and the home's generator seamlessly kicked in, which really impressed us! This home was the highlight of our family vacation, and we are already dreaming of returning soon.
The house was gorgeous! So many fantastic amenities (we were particularly fond of the ice maker), the furniture was comfortable & beautiful, the views from the various decks & porches were great. We couldn’t have been happier or more satisfied with the house. You can tell the owners take great pride in it, and have put a lot of time & effort into making a house you’ll feel comfortable & relaxed in. The location is within walking distance of a lovely beach & literally right around the corner from an entrance into Acadia National Park. We can’t recommend the house enough! Thank you for sharing it with us, Kate!
A beautiful home tucked away in Seal Harbor, ME. You are close to the "hustle and bustle" of Bar Harbor, and Acadia National Park is a short drive or walk, but the neighborhood is quiet and secluded. It’s a hidden gem. The home is comfortable and thoughtfully decorated. It has personality and is unique. My family had plenty of room to stretch out find their own spot to relax. The porches were a nice bonus. We highly recommend staying in this special home.
This beautiful home was our family gathering place for my daughter's wedding in Acadia National Park. It was so wonderful to spend time with everyone in this meticulously renovated home.
We cooked together in the chef's kitchen. We had family dinners in the dining room, lunch on the porch. On the lazy days, we read in the library/sunroom. The bedrooms were beautifully designed and incredibly comfortable!
Spending time together in your home made the wedding weekend very magical. Thank you!
