About this property

Beachy Cottage by the Bay

Our family cottage has provided joy and memories for decades, and after fixing it up over the past year we are excited to rent it out for guests to enjoy.

This breezy 2 bedroom, 1 bath cottage has a covered front porch with a twin bed for an additional sleeper, a cozy living room with TV and super strong wifi, and a 70s style kitchen with all the pots, pans, spices and silverware you could need.

The backyard has an outdoor shower, hammock, picnic table, fire pit, and grill for cookouts.

Our cottage is located on Bay Avenue, the Hampton Jitney stops right on our corner, and is down the street from the gentle Peconic Bay where you can walk and take a swim - 5 minutes away from Rocky Point Beach, Trumans Beach, 10 minutes from Orient and Greenport, and 15 minutes from Vineyards galore.
Please note* Orient Point Beach is open to non residents with cars. You can bike, walk or take a car service to all other beaches.

While we have been working hard to refresh my grandmas cottage, it is still a little rough around the edges, so if you are looking for something super sleek, this may not be the place for you. If you like special places with character, and a tad of an eclectic taste, then we look forward to hosting you here :)

Best,
Alley

Sweet Bay Ave House
We had a really nice 4-day Labor Day weekend here. A small and lovingly kept house in the heart of the North Fork. Amazing location. We loved the fire pit and the grill in the backyard. Local oysters for sale just up the street. Alley's description is perfect: it's not a slick place, but it's cozy and well cared for.

North Fork & Chill
This location was ideal for what we were looking for. A lowkey getaway in the North Fork. Quite neighborhood, with pleasant people nearby. We enjoyed the end of Bay Ave, where we would walk each evening. The small beach and marsh area were filled with sights to be seen. An excellent feature of the home was the outdoor shower! We used it frequently as we always returned with sandy feet. The cottage was very rustic. Plenty of space, lots of cool art, and the kitchen allowed us to prepare some of our meals. The front and back yard were also utilized during our stay. Perfect location for a relaxing stay. The bed in the master room was comfortable. The Roku was also appreciated. The WiFi was limited in terms of it's security, so were not able to hook up the baby-cam as intended, but were able to use our phones and TV apps. etc. Things that could be improved: cleanliness. I understand that this cottage is likely still a "work in progress", but there are still dusty areas, spiders, older rugs, damp smells, etc. This was tolerable. The biggest down side was the AC. It was too dusty to turn on and the filter needs replacing. Luckily, it wasn't too hot. We dusted and cleaned a few of the fans and ran those. There were also candle provided-- we lit those too. Not all the windows would open, and the ones that did proved to need cleaning as well. We made it work. I believe that with a thorough, deep-cleaning, this place will continue to charm people's socks off! But for now, it still needs a good "washing". Lovely bouquet of sunflowers and a bottle of wine for check-in. Always a nice choice. We hope to visit again next year.

Charming cottage to relax and appreciate NoFo like a local
This cottage was the perfect place for my end of summer vacation! I had the idea of staying somewhere large enough to host family, friends, and my boyfriend passing through since we all have hectic schedules. It is spacious and homey, the bay is half a block away, theres a hammock and outdoor fire pit (s'mores), the kitchen is stocked, it's close to wineries, beaches, restaurants etc.. I work in NYC and wanted a quaint & recharging kind of trip. This cottage was the best backdrop to relax with loved ones. Also- the host was really helpful in recommending activities suited to my interests and was responsive to questions. The space definitely has a rustic old school charm, which I love. The photos are accurate. Feels like a sweet place that has been well loved over the years! Happy I got to stay there and experience North Fork life for a week!

Fabulous Location and Wonderful Cottage!
This is a family-owned cottage just steps from a beach on the Peconic Bay facing Shelter Island, where you can take sun, swim, launch a kayak, or just enjoy the amazing views. It is located on a quiet road surrounded by trees, a lake, and all types of wild birds and other wildlife (You may see a deer strolling by, a swan and its mate leisurely swimming, or a tree full of egrets at dusk). If you like golf, Island's End Golf Course is a 3 minute drive. Lovely Greenport's downtown district with shopping, restaurants, a marina, and ferry to Shelter Island is just 10 minutes driving, and Orient State park is just 10 minutes in the opposite direction. There are also many of the famous North Fork wineries within 10-15 minutes driving. Overall, the cottage itself is rustic, but has all of the modern necessities (TV with Roku, Strong WiFi internet, kitchen with all necessary items for cooking, A/C, etc.) and is clean and well-kept. There is a backyard with gas grill, picnic table, fire pit, hammock, and outdoor shower. There are two nice-sized bedrooms and a daybed in the front enclosed porch/living area. There are also wonderful neighbors who are local to the area and extremely friendly and helpful. All in all, for a family vacation, we were 100% satisfied with everything about this cottage: location, amenities, communication with the host. What you see advertised is exactly what you will get...and more!

Hi there! I'm Alley, the de-facto property manager of The Cottage on Bay Ave.

My grandmother bought this cottage in the 70s and I was lucky enough to visit every summer as a kid. Sometimes, when the house was full, I would camp in the backyard and hang with the fireflies.

I am happy to report all these years later, that the magic of this area has largely remained in tact. Wildlife thrives around Marion Lake; cranes, swan families, turtles, fresh lavender, sunflowers all grow within a stones throw. And the beaches transport you in time and place. This may sound like a childlike exaggeration, but lookup up "Rocky Point Beach Long Island".

Most people agree the cottage houses a creative spirit. My grandparents used to come here every summer, riding their bikes from the LIRR to paint and write. (More about that in "The Cottage on Bay Avenue" in North Forker Magazine). The art in the house is still mostly my grandmothers, and we know she would be happy that others were enjoying it.

After spending the pandemic giving the place a refresh, we hope you will enjoy your stay out East, and maybe get creative while you're here, too :)

Please contact me if you have any questions, I want to help make this a special getaway for you and yours!

Best,
Alley
