BEAUTIFUL NEWLY RENOVATED 1935 FARMHOUSE This beautiful, newly-renovated little farmhouse is one story and has level access (no stairs) from the easy level driveway and 3-car parking area – rare for these parts. Near Asheville and many local attractions, or beautiful and comfortable to enjoy just staying in.
--------------------------------- NOTE: Please take your time and read our listing thoroughly - it's packed with helpful information. Most of your questions will be answered here. Once you book, I will send you a PDF of our very-informative "Welcome Book" - it's full with great info about "Olive", the area, local restaurants, grocery stores, hiking trails, etc. (There's also a printed copy at the cottage for your reference during your stay.) ---------------------------------
Named for the short private road she sits on, "Olivette", and her green-and-orange colors (think Manzanilla olives), not too long ago our amazing little Olive House was a diamond in the rough. It had been in disrepair for decades, but when we saw the spacious living area, the empty oversized bathroom (see "Bath Oasis"), the aged pine floors, we knew that with a lot of love, creativity, and elbow grease (and a bit of cash) this little empty shell would shine again and become the beautiful "Olive House" she is today.
ALL NEW... beautiful "Bath Oasis" (more about the bath below), ensuite bath, stainless steel refrigerator, electric range, siding, HVAC, electric, plumbing with on-demand hot water, coffered ceilings, lighting and fans, 3 sets of french doors, barn doors, full professional paint inside and out, gorgeous refinished floors, new laundry room with new washer and dryer, all new furnishings, new beautiful gardens and privacy fence, new spacious parking area, and revived roof and deck… The time has come for the Olive House to shine and for you to enjoy!
From the new coffered ceilings to the rich ebony pine floors, Tom and I worked to bring our vision to life so our guests could enjoy this sweet little gem of Asheville.
LOCATION! LOCATION! LOCATION! Our Olive House is approximately 15 minutes to the city, another 10 to the entrance of the Biltmore Estate, and about 20 minutes total to just about any wonderful hiking trail and attractions in the Asheville area. About as close as you can get and still have a whole-house rental! Perfect!
CLEAN Our Olive House is professionally cleaned thoroughly and thoughtfully after each stay. So, if you're looking for someplace beautiful, comfortable, CLEAN, and private to get away from the hustle and bustle... you found it! (Did I mention the epic bathroom?!)
SUPPLIES Stocked to get you started... paper towels, tp, coffee, teas, sugar, soaps, and more. If you need more, grocery stores are minutes away.
WELCOME GIFT We love to offer you a Welcome Gift for staying at our sweet Olive House - a small assortment of delicious trail mix packets will be waiting for you on the Welcome table. They're great for a quick snack upon arrival, or to take along for a hike. Enjoy!
PET-FRIENDLY For non-pet owners, Olive is so nice and clean you'd never suspect pups have ever visited because of our thoughtful owners and wonderful housekeeping!
We encourage folks to travel with their pups, so we made Olive House pup-friendly! (We get it. We have Marley!) I leave some treats, a ball, 2 bowls, a roll of baggies for easy cleanup, and a doggy bed so they're just as comfortable as you are. We have a no-pets-on-furniture policy and doggie sheets (with doggies printed on them, of course) to help keep the pup-confetti (hair) manageable and prevent any pesky extra cleaning fees (yet to ever be charged!) from housekeeping.
STAY "HOME" If you'd like to stay cozied up in your beautiful secluded getaway, grab a sweet tea and play a game on the deck by the light of the vintage-style Edison bulbs. Or maybe make s’mores around the fire pit while enjoying the fresh mountain air and the laughter of family. Want to keep it simple… relax in the living room with a good book, puzzle, game, or a movie on the 50” smart TV with cable channels. Don't forget to bring your Netflix login!
EPIC "BATH OASIS" Speaking of "relaxing"... did I mention the EPIC bathroom? Just cast your eyes on those photos! It’s a spacious bathroom with a beautiful repurposed vanity, gorgeous tile floors and walls, separate toilet room with barn door, frameless shower door, and a "wet room" with shower and the original refurbished 1920 antique clawfoot tub. Draw a warm bath and relax with a glass of wine and a good book while you soak your stress away. Bath Oasis!
And yes, the ensuite bathroom off the Queen room – once a large empty closet – is also new and quite beautiful… just not quite “epic”.
BEDS There's 2 new comfy beds for restful nights after your big days exploring... the king-sized iron bed in the room with 2 new sets of french doors – with blinds and decorative frosted glass for your privacy, a wall of built-ins, and rich dark refinished fir flooring. The second bedroom has a beautiful oak queen bed, painted antique flooring, and ensuite bathroom. If you'd like to bring your own air mattress and bedding, there's plenty of floor space in the living room to sleep 2 more. (Fees may apply.)
A BIT MORE... Our Little Olive House is situated on a cozy yard, partially surrounded by a privacy fence (not completely fenced), shaded by a large oak tree, and a wrap-around deck with plenty of sunshine. It's owner-managed and we take pride in doing all the little things to make your stay an amazing experience.
DRIVEWAY Unlike many other properties in the area, our wide level driveway with 3 parking spots is easy for navigation and parking. Inclement weather is rarely an issue. That's a reassuring feature if you've ever tried driving up a steep WNC driveway in one of our winter snowstorms!
EXPLORE Feeling the need to get out a bit? Visit the nearby grounds and gardens of the magnificent Biltmore Estate, drive the scenic Blue Ridge Parkway, or hike to one of the area's magnificent waterfalls. So much to do, or nothing at all. The choice is yours!
It's a short drive to Asheville and many local adventures and attractions, but comfortable to enjoy just staying in and relaxing. Use the House as home base while you ski Wolf Ridge Ski Resort, hike off the Blue Ridge Parkway, kayak the French Broad, tube the Green, tour the Biltmore Estate, sample the local shops, restaurants and breweries... whatever makes you smile!

Thank you for your glowing review, Susan! It was a pleasure having you. Please know you always have a special place in Asheville, The Olive House. Happy 2026!
Thus was an excellent pet-friendly place to stay and is close to town. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Asheville and staying at Olive house. Thanks for providing such a cozy place to stay thus week.
I was celebrating my 70 th birthday. There was a sweet birthday message waiting for me on the chalkboard! This house was exceptionally clean! The bed was comfortable and the wet room with rain shower and antique tub was amazing. We totally enjoyed our stay.
We had a blast at the Olive House for our weekend trip to Asheville. It is so close to downtown, we were able to hop in and out for dinners. The house is cute and cozy, and our dog loved it too. The hosts were amazing throughout the whole process and super communicative. We’ll definitely come back.
The home was very clean and well-equipped for travelling with our senior dog. The online description of the home & amenities is spot-on and the host is a great communicator! Lot's of little "extras" with this home including a dog bed & bowls, nice quality linens, trail snacks, coffee and foodwrap in the kitchen, bubblebath and bodywash in the "wet room," and a helpful guidebook - the online version of the guidebook was sent to us online ahead of our stay, which was helpful. This home is clearly lovingly cared for and thoughtfully furnished for the enjoyment of guests. The location is minutes to a great casual coffee shop by the river and a short drive to all the major Asheville attractions. We had a lovely 3-night stay at Olive House and hope to stay again soon!
We enjoyed everything about our stay at the Olive House. The house was well appointed and we enjoyed the decor and fun green and orange exterior. We felt welcome from the moment we got there. We appreciated the trail mix for us and tennis ball for our pup, Heath. The beds were comfortable and the wet room bathroom was incredible. We enjoyed the porch at the beginning and end of the day. Olive is convenient to all of our favorite Asheville spots. We loved it and hope to be back soon.
Kris was a wonderful host for our weekend getaway with friends! Home is in a great location to explore north and in Downtown Asheville!

Great place to stay after a couple of days in downtown Asheville. Would prefer this cozy cottage hands down to town as the perfect home away from home vibe. Great point to plan all our hiking day trips from and come back to a serene environment to relax after.

Yes! EXACTLY what we had in mind! Thank you for your awesome review, Jastasia. So great that you loved our Olive House and got to explore some of the amazing sites in our beautiful Asheville mountains. Visit again soon! There's MUCH more to see!
Loved the decor (especially the main bathroom) and the convenience location. We have stayed in many properties in, near and around Asheville over the last 10+ years. This one was among the nicest yet. We would definitely make a return trip here.
Olive House was extremely clean and welcoming. I especially loved the farmhouse decor. The master bathroom/wet room did not disappoint with the soaking tub and double shower. The kitchen was stocked with everything we needed.
We would not hesitate to stay at Olive House again.
This was a beautiful property and accurately described. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. Hope to come back and stay here some day. Adam from Ohio.

Really nice place…. Enjoyed the home and the remodeled bathroom. Little lack of privacy with neighbors but the fencing helped. Easy to find and good parking….not far from downtown either.

About the host
Hosted by Kris Mulloy
Tom is an experienced land surveyor with more than 30 years in the field. Several years ago, he started his own survey business here in Asheville and is well known and respected in the industry.
Kris is a Real Estate Broker, graphic designer, artist, and property manager. She loves using her skills in renovation, refinishing floors, and her vision as a designer to renew old homes into beautiful vacation rental properties to be enjoyed by folks visiting the Asheville area. Tom lovingly applies his skills at carpentry, light electric, and vision in sync with Kris. As a result, the houses shine brighter and more beautiful than ever.
Once ready for guests, Kris manages the houses and makes sure the guests truly love their experience, whichever one of their 3 vacation homes they choose. As an award-winning Realtor, Kris also helps many folks find their own forever and vacation homes here in WNC.
Together, Tom and Kris have lived in the Asheville area for over 20 years. They met several years ago when she hired Tom to survey her land in nearby Arden. Soon, they discovered their mutual interest and worked together creating 3 lovely 5-star vacation rentals... The Sweet Mount Royal House, The Little Yellow Cottage, and most recently… The Olive House.
Why they chose this property
Kris and Tom saw this diamond-in-the-rough and knew it could be beautiful – the perfect size, character, bright open rooms, large bathroom, virgin wood floors, a quiet rural neighborhood, and the close proximity to Asheville – so we decided to make it ours. After a “few” trips to the hardware store and more than a year of hard work, she’s ready to shine again. Our labor of love!
What makes this property unique
It’s difficult to name just one thing that I love about our Olive House. When we found it, she was an empty and worn little building with so much potential. After many months of love and labor, she’s now a shiny, happy, beautiful little house.
Hmmm... if I had to choose my favorite feature, I would have to say it's the "Bath Oasis" – the refinished antique 1926 clawfoot tub in the beautiful "wet room" of the stylish bathroom – is my favorite feature. Guests can relax with a book and soak their cares away. (Anyone remember "Calgon"??)
The large bathroom has been gutted and entirely redesigned with a refinished clawfoot tub in a "wet room" with beautiful bold tile, glass doors, a repurposed cabinet beautifully refinished for the vanity, vessel sink with waterfall faucet, and a separate toilet room with barn door. All new. All fresh. Wonderfully designed and waiting for our guests!
Her location can’t be beat – a quiet country road yet close to the city and nearby adventures. In a short drive you can have lunch downtown, sample the local breweries, visit the Biltmore Estate, enjoy a concert at the Orange Peel, LaZoom, ski, hike, tube, kayak… whatever makes you smile! Then come home to our comfy little cottage, kick off your sandals (or ski boots), and rest up for the next day’s adventure.
The benefit of starting with an empty house is that now almost everything is new – from the parking area to the refinished antique clawfoot tub! That includes the stainless steel fridge, stainless steel range, micro, toaster oven, washer/dryer/laundry room, HVAC, on-demand hot water, privacy fence, french doors, barn doors... We also had fun adding things we felt our guests would enjoy – fire pit, the "Coffee Wall" with colorful mugs with our favorite coffee we discovered in Honduras, comfy beds with plush soft blankets and quilts, and a big tv with all the apps and cable.
