Fabulous comfortable home filled with everything you need, and a sandy beach with such clean water for the best possible SWIMMING! Sunsets were as advertised...stunning!
The cabin was perfect for our family - 4 adults and 4 kids. It was clean, tastefully decorated and equipped with everything we needed. The beach area had a nice sandy bottom and the water was so clear. The proximity to Hayward and Shell Lake were great for shopping. There were also some cute shops in Stone Lake.
I stayed with my family to enjoy some time away in the north woods. The cabin has a ton of character and is located right near the water with gorgeous sunset views. The convenience of having the lake and dock so close can't be beat. We had a great time and truly enjoyed pur stay.
As advertised and more! Lovely home, great sandy beach, and amazing sunsets. Excellent communication with easy check in and check out procedures. Thanks again for hosting!
Had a fantastic family stay here. Great location on the lake, and close to Stone Lake - which is very cool little town!
Owner was very responsive and organized and even provided all the fixings for S'mores!
Great access to enjoy the lake. would definitely recommend staying here and hope to again in the future.
Wonderful lakefront cabin with sand beach. The cabin appears exactly as in the listing photos. We had everything we needed in the kitchen to make meals. The kayaks and paddles are in nice condition, we took them out several times. We enjoyed mornings and evenings in the dock watching the Loons. Sand Lake had decent fishing. We caught several blue gill, perch and a few small mouth bass. We were even able to catch a few fish off the dock. This was our first trip to Stone Lake/Hayward area and already are starting to plan our next trip. Thank you for sharing your lovely cabin with us.
Perfect Northwoods Summer: lovely property, sandy beach, amazing sunsets, peaceful lake community. Thrilled with our experience, thank you for hosting!
We loved to wake up to the view of the lake and the sunsets. Great coffee shop, Whistle Punk, near by. It was great to use the kayaks and fishing off the boat ramp entrance for the lake. Everthing was clean and neat and plenty of space
A wonderful location. Beautiful quiet lake and great beach area. Fun on the water with the kayaks, row boat and canoe that are included. The house was big enough for the 5 adults and 2 kids to spread out, but also cozy to spend time together.
Was a great week on Sand Lake. The property was what we were looking for: sand bottom and perfect depth for our little grands. We love spending time on the sandy beach as well as the beautifully shaded deck facing the lake. Sunsets were amazing!! Plan to stay again next year!
Property was as advertised. It was a quiet lake with good fishing and lots of local nature. We enjoyed fires by the dock in the evening and there was plenty of seating inside when it was raining. The kitchen was nice and there were lots of pots, pans, glasses etc.
We were close enough to Hayward for dining out, ice cream store and the candy store.
Lake was good for fishing.
We loved it.
This is a beautiful cabin with a natural beach frontage. We enjoyed the easy access to Sand Lake, and sunset after phenomenal sunset. We also loved the screened-in porch. This turned out to be a great place to hang out after the kids were in bed, as it was somewhat sound-isolated from the inside of the cabin. There are a couple things that are important to know about the property, not necessarily negative but considerations depending on your planned activities. 1) the driveway is narrow (between trees) and unpaved. There is no boat parking possible on-site. We parked our boat on the shoulder of the road the cabin is located on. 2) the area by the dock is very shallow (as is pointed out in the listing). We were just able to dock a small pontoon at the dock, but our larger in-board motorboat had to be anchored 30 yards offshore. 3) We felt that some of the neighbors were unhappy/concerned about the fact that this cabin was being used as a short-term rental. We were approached by one neighbor while playing with our kids by the dock. The neighbor questioned us about our intentions with our boat and regulations related to its use on the lake. We were a pair of families with kids, so we weren’t making any noise or partying late, etc., but the reaction to our presence seemed significant enough to mention. All in all, this was a great cabin on an amazing lake, and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoys northern WI lake life!
Having spent the summers of my youth and adulthood in the Hayward area, it was just what I expected. The kids (10, 10, & 13) loved the bunk bed loft on the second floor. The lakefront has a sandy bottom which is lovely. The kids were in the water every chance they could. There's a fire pit which we used on two occasions. Unfortunately, around 7:30-ish the mosquitos come out to feast so inside we headed. The screen doors in the side porch actually have a locking function which should be used at night, not for security, but because it creates a better seal on the screen doors to keep the mosquitos out. Another hint, don't turn on the outside door light for the front door! It is approximately 8 inches from the front door and attracts hundreds of mosquitos in the evening. So, getting in or out of the house that way was fraught with airborne peril. Once I turned it off, it was not an issue. The little township of Stone Lake was nearby and good for picking up a few things you might need without driving all the way into Hayward. To the west of Stone Lake township there is Pine Ridge resort which does a wonderful Fish Fry which you can get to go if you want. Otherwise it is 2 hour wait to get a table. We also canoed down the Namekagon River from Jack's Canoe Rental and it was lovely. However, the thing the girls loved the most was when we drove to Frederic, WI, to rent horses from Frontier Stables. The horses were fresh. The trail they lead us on was simply beautiful!
Adorable and cozy cabin perfect for 4-6 people. Thoughtful amenities, great kitchen and multi-use screened porch make this perfect for a family. Great kayaks with easy access to beautiful sand lake are a highlight. Spectacular sunsets should not be missed. We would definitely return!
The cabin was wonderful. Lots of space for everyone, including 2 toddlers. The lake is beautiful and we took advantage of the kayaks included in the rental. We also rented a pontoon for the week and had no problems docking. The sunsets and starry skies were exceptional. We loved our week at the cabin. Planning for next year already.
We had a great time on our trip! Everything was neat and easy to access. The space worked well for our large family of 7 adults and 1 toddler. The beach was easily accessible, sandy and so much fun for our toddler. The kayaks and other options were enjoyed by all!
We stayed some of the hottest days this summer and the cabin was quite warm those days/nights. Would recommend a few more fans if the temperature is expected to be high.
Overall a great stay!
On the inside, this cabin could not have been more perfect! My family loved the comfy couches, soft blankets, cozy loft, and open kitchen. There were so many great spots for reading and playing games! The views from the loft & living room - especially at sunset - were stunning! We also enjoyed using the kayaks and row boat and just relaxing on the dock. The only downsides, for us, were outside the cabin. There are neighbors right nearby on both sides of the cabin, one of which had noisy construction going on for part of our trip. Also, the ground around the firepit area was uneven and not conducive to relaxing evenings around a fire. That being said, I would happily return tomorrow if I could!

About the host

We grew up in Minnesota and now live in the Twin Cites. We have shared decades of "lake life" at our cabin with our now-college-aged kids. We are new to sharing our cabin with others and we hope you enjoy your time at the lake as much as we have.
Why they chose this property
We love nature. And we wanted to share that love with our kids. They are now college-age and have a deep love of adventure in the outdoors: hiking, backpacking, river rafting, fishing, Nordic skiing, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking. All loves that were nurtured on Sand Lake.
What makes this property unique
One of favorite things to do at Sand Lake is Happy Hour at the end of our dock. It's not so much about the beverages. It's more about the tasty and colorful snacks loaded onto the big tray while gathering together to talk and watch the sun slowly set across the lake. It's particularly beautiful when a few clouds add a bit of colorful drama to the end of the day.
