About this property
Camping cabin on lakefront ranch in Sandpoint
Cozy camping cabin in western rustic style that sleeps up to 6, just minutes from the resort town of Sandpoint, Idaho, at Hawkins Point on Lake Pend Oreille. The 10.33-acre lakefront ranch property features lake-and-mountain views and access to an outdoor hot tub and private shoreline.
The cabin is truly a work of art with blued pine, corrugated rusty metal ceiling, and many rustic touches and special details. Located at Hawkins Point on the Sunnyside Peninsula, 12 miles from downtown Sandpoint, the property is uniquely situated at a Lake Pend Oreille landmark. The cabin measures 14x14 with a 14x12 covered porch, plus an 80-square-foot loft. This is modeled after camping cabins in state parks but way cooler and with comfortable beds and bedding provided. It is a dry cabin with no running water. It really is camping, or glamping as it's called. Guests use a professionally maintained portable toilet.
A two-burner hot plate, microwave, toaster over, small fridge with freezer, electric drip coffee maker, French press and electric tea kettle make it possible to make meals on-site. Some guests even cook over the campfire. Water is on-site with a frost-free hydrant near the cabin. We're talking tasty well water here! We're considering adding a kitchen sink so the cabin will have some plumbing to make it easier to cook, wash dishes, clean hands, etc.
Amenities include a beautiful outdoor hot tub under the stars that seats five with a lounge, and a unique outdoor shower and outdoor sink (seasonal use). Please note, guests MUST BATHE just prior to using the hot tub! Use the outdoor shower when in season or take a camp (sponge) bath inside the cabin.
Inside the cabin are games, local guidebooks, tourism publications and extra blankets. In the crate under the counter is a vintage basin with hand sanitizer, hand soap, dish soap, a few hand towels and wash cloths. Plus there's an assortment of condiments, creamer and sugar, salt and pepper and a variety of other spices, cooking oil and paper towels. A trivet and basin are hanging on the wall above the counter. Please use the trivet to set hot pots and pans on, and the basins for washing up dishes or taking camp baths. A 2-gallon water container is provided for your use. Please don't leave it on the counter wet as it stains the wood.
The property at Hawkins Point includes a house and four RV sites that allow for the possibility of group retreats. You will see other guests on the property and may have to alternate usage of the hot tub. One of the RV sites is adjacent to the cabin and is available to rent for groups only. So you can stay in the cabin and invite friends or family to come stay in an RV next to you. Please inquire about the possibility of group camping.
Part of our mission is to give people an affordable way to visit Sandpoint. The cabin is dog friendly and we have accommodations for horses, too, for an extra fee.
Amenities include an outdoor hot tub (shared/alternate use) and shower, fire pit, horseshoe pits. There is a round pen, arena and fenced area for horses.
I love meeting my guests and will make every attempt to meet in person at least once while you're here. If our paths don't cross, know that I would have liked to have met you!
Sunnyside is a very desirable rural neighborhood on the north shore of Lake Pend Oreille east of Sandpoint. The cabin sits on a large site on the east side of the property, with east- and south-facing views of the lake.
Sandpoint and the surrounding towns of Dover, Kootenai and Ponderay have a free SPOT bus. Amtrak has the only stop in Idaho at the Sandpoint depot. Rental cars are available in Sandpoint or at the Spokane international Airport. Sandpoint Airport has a 6,000-foot paved runway. The cabin is located 10 miles from the town of Ponderay, where you'll find Walmart, Bonner Mall and many other shops. It's another two miles to downtown Sandpoint, or about a 20-minute drive via Highway 200.
Guests must read and follow hot tub rules in order to use this amenity. Guests MUST BATHE prior to use, whether in the outdoor shower or by taking a camp bath inside the cabin. Wear shoes to the tub and get in with clean feet. Slide the cover onto the shelf system and handle it carefully. Don't splash or allow horseplay. Do not sit or lie on the cover. Don't eat while in the tub and use alcohol in moderation. Don't spend excessive time in the hot tub nor alter the temperature. Leave it at 102 degrees. Limit users to five at a time. Guests who misuse the hot tub are subject to a cleaning fee and possibly the cancellation of their reservation. A $200 fee will be charged if I have to drain/clean/refill the hot tub and add new chemicals to it.
Dogs will only be allowed if they are kept on leash, are friendly and good with other dogs and people, and are well-behaved. NO letting them scratch or jump on the beds, windowsill, door, woodwork, etc. NO letting them on furniture or leaving them unattended in the cabin. Your reservation will be canceled if you leave your dogs in the cabin unattended! Take dogs with you when you go out, or use a crate/kennel (available upon request). If you're willing to follow my pet rules, then be prepared to pay a pet fee of $20 per dog, two dogs max.
If you bring horses, it's an extra $20 per head per night to feed out of the barn. Campwood is provided for the campfire, but please be mindful about this privilege and keep use moderate and restricted to the steel ring inside the fire pit. The kitchen campbox has just about every kitchen item you would need. I also provide hygiene and bathroom campboxes with towels and personal care items. The cabin also has a 2-gallon water container, hand soap, dish soap and hand sanitizer, plus a couple of basins for doing dishes or taking camp baths in winter when the outdoor shower and sink is put away. If there's anything you forgot or anything you need, don't be afraid to ask.
This is a rural neighborhood. While the county does a good job maintaining the roads, guests may encounter snow-packed surfaces and the possibility of fresh snowfall before the county plows following a winter storm. The driveway leading to the camping cabin has a mild uphill climb. I would recommend that guests be prepared for driving in snow, with good tires, front-wheel drive, all-wheel drive or four-wheel drive.
