Cottage for a volcano visit

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Isolated cottage in a rain forest environment complete with wildlife. Has what you need for a comfortable stay, fridge, toaster and microwave ovens, small heater if it get too cool, dehumidifier and air purifier if needed. The room and bath are perfect for a couple. The gates entrance can be "fun" in the rain. The road is a bit primitive but easy to drive in any was 10 min from the Hawaii Volcano Natiinal Park entrance.

Dancing Bamboo cottage is a great peaceful place

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Pros: Beautiful quiet secluded location. Clean. Comfortable bed. We had everything we needed. In a nice location and we felt safe. Very close to Volcanoes National Park Cons: Very sheer curtains and no blinds on windows. I realize the windows are on the side and back of the house facing the jungle/forest. However, it did feel somewhat uncomfortable especially with a home next door. Instructions need to be given regarding emptying the dehumidifier. When we realized it was full, we emptied it which made the inside much more comfortable. A small freezer on the fridge would have been nice but we were aware that it onlyHad a mini fridge

Cute!

Cute cottage! Nice, private, happy to have a heater there. Toilet handle wasn’t working properly, could use more utensils and spices for cooking and clean sponges for doing dishes. Loved taking a hot shower there. Overall, cozy stay.

Mahalo for your review, TIare! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay. I've let our maintenance team know about the fussy toilet handle. We usually do leave a kitchen sponge - I have a note in to housekeeping about your review. I've also asked them to inventory the utensil situation. We don't supply any food items due to COVID restrictions. You can't be too careful these days! We hope you'll keep us in mind if your travels bring you back to Volcano. Dancing Bamboo

Lovely setting, very remote. Clean, comfortable accommodations for the three nights we stayed. Ten minute drive to the Hawaii Volcano National Park and Volcano village which was convenient. We met local family at the park each day to explore and hike in the National park. The internet worked very well. The shower was lovely, nice hard shower and plenty of room. We would recommend this property!

Lovely Cottage Close to the National Park

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Close to the national parks which is what we were looking for. Comfortable and cute space with stylistic decor. The bathroom was my favorite feature of the place with a large shower and two mini sinks. It does require opening and closing a gate when entering and leaving the property but is normal among the surrounding properties.

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: My partner and I stayed here for a couple nights for the Volcano National Park leg of our Hawaii visit. The Bamboo cottage is just as described. It's super close to the national park and was a nice place to come back to after we were done exploring. So quiet and peaceful and the STARS were amazing. Coffee on the lanai before we headed out, just taking in the landscape... I would definitely stay again.

Quiet place, somewhat secluded

Rating Details: The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: Overall we had a great experience staying in the cottage. It was near the national park but not too close to town which was nice. It gets a bit muddy when wet and is fairly dimly lit at night near the gate which makes it a little bit of a challenge to open the gate. The cottage was just as pictured, very clean and well kept. This is a great place to stay if you don’t plan to cook but they do have a toaster oven, microwave and a regular drip coffee maker which was nice.

Mahalo for your review, Jacqueline. You're right - it is DARK here! There are light ordinances to keep light pollution to a minimum because of the telescopes up on Mauna Kea. We always recommend that guests have their phone's flashlight app at the ready when arriving after dark. Bamboo dancing

Nice cottage off the main house. Very clean. Everything just as listed. Only issue was NO HEAT, and we stayed during one of those rare times it does get cool in the winter, 50's outside at night, makes it low 60's in the room. Maybe we should have known better, but now you do too.

Mahalo for your review, Bill. We are happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay! We do provide a space heater in Bamboo Cottage, as well as a dehumidifier which help take the edge off. Due to the high elevation, Volcano can be quite colder than sea-level areas. We appreciate you bringing this to the attention of future guests! We hope you'll keep us in mind if you visit Volcano again :-) Aloha, The Salt Water Hawaii Vacations Crew Salt Water Real Estate, Hilo HI

Cute cottage

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The cottage was clean and attractive. Bed was comfortable. Not hard to find when you followed the hosts instructions. Unfortunately, the cottage had a very musty smell and had to be aired vigorously each day after it had been closed while we were out. As well, there was no hot plate supplied as advertised which required some original thinking to get dinner cooked. Overall, a pleasant stay but could use a few little improvements.

ryans review of dancing bamboo cottage

Rating Details: The property manager was very helpful. The vacation rental was spotless. I was very happy with the location. I was very satisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: this has been a great place to stay. very nice quality house and clean. in short this place is the reason why the local resorts and hotels bribed the mayor, and others, to pass restrictive laws against short term vacation rentals because people were no longer staying at hotels and resorts. yes there are somethings to consider. there is a unpaved road for the last block of road. not all the lots/homes in the estate are perfect and clean but they are never bothersome or a problem, minor and hardly worth mentioning. a washer/dryer would be nice but for that you would have to pay more due to the price of electricity on island and depending on your length of stay not an issue if you pack right. i would stay here again (and probably will) and recommend it to anyone.

Good location, ok accommodation

Rating Details: The property manager was more than helpful. The vacation rental was somewhat dirty. I was more than happy with the location. I was somewhat dissatisfied with the condition of the vacation rental. Overall, I do not recommend this vacation rental. Reviewer Comments: The location was good for my purposes of strictly visiting the volcano. I didn’t feel like the rental was clean however. It had the feeling of appearing clean but I didn’t trust that it actually was. The fridge didn’t work and smelled awful, pretty upset since they recommend you buy groceries in town and everything spoiled and took on the disgusting smell of the fridge. Wasted my money and then had to dine out anyway. The support mattress sheet had a bunch of stains on it. The gate lock was really old and rusted, pretty painful on the fingers to unlock each time. The shower drained pretty slowly. It felt like an air bnb but not really great quality. The towels were thin and the bathroom mirrors were placed too high. Overall I felt it was ok for the price. I will probably try to book further in advance and stay at a hotel next time.
Response from VrboOwner on 12 July 2025
Mahalo for your review, Jasmine. We are so sorry to hear that Dancing Bamboo Cottage didn't meet your expectations. The property was cleaned by our housekeeping manager just before your arrival and the fridge was working fine at that time. We didn't notice any trouble with it after your departure, but we will be sure to double check on the next cleaning, just in case! We wish you had let us know there was an issue - we would have sent someone immediately! The sheets and towels are newer... but if there was a problem with them, of course we would have replaced them right away if only we'd known. We will double check on them and the gate lock as mentioned. It's not necessary at all to lock the gate when you come and go - it's just good to pull it shut so the local pigs don't root around in the yard. We wish you all the best in your future travels! MISSING INSTRUCTION TO GAIN ENTRY - DOOR FAILED TO OPEN ... the "back-key" must be used in combination with electronic lock to gain entry entry instructions need to be made much clearer regarding what is the purpose of the mechanical lock code .. upon entry a strong cigarette smell throughout, had to open all windows to air out the unit .. a white air filter machine with MULTIPLE COFFEE STAINS on the top - device needs removing from property .. mattress uneven concave surface .. one unclean inner pillow case cover, the other is missing the inner pillow case cover, pillow smells .. the Honeywell filter showed a red checklight - may have accidentally reset this - filter may need changing .. Aloha Charles, thank you for noting all the great aspects of our cottage! We're sorry that the minor issues you had added up to giving the property a low score, ouch. All of these could have been redtified by notifying us. We inspect the unit before every arrival. There has never been a cigarette odor. We believe the odor you smelled was from the air purifier. We changed the filter which did have a 'woodsey' smell and that is gone now. Hopefully future guests will read multiple reviews and see that most guests really enjoy our space. Aloha, The Salt Water Hawaii Crew
