About this property

Pali’uli Estate has an old Hawaiian country feel in a tropical rain forest.

Our bed and breakfast was built in 1930-1938. The name on the entrance pillar is Pali-uli. This meaning found in the Hawaiian dictionary is very accurate. n. A legendary land of plenty and joy, said to be on Hawaii, where chiefs' children were raised. Lit., green cliff. Pali-uli in the misty rain.

This 2-bedroom bed & breakfast is perfect for your escape to Volcano. Inside, guests find two California king beds and two twin beds, plus a cozy living room with a sofa bed for extra sleeping if needed.
The bathroom features a refreshing shower and a hair dryer for convenience.
Electric heaters keeps upstairs bedrooms inviting no matter the season. Downstairs there is a propane open flame heater with thermostat.
Enjoy visiting our farm animals. We have sheep, goats, chickens and a cow.
Meet Pali’uli one of two wiener dogs that roam about. Maka is her brother. There is also a Catahoula/lab mix puppy.
Take a walk around the property and walk on top of an old Hawaiian rock wall through Hapu’u ferns and O’hia trees. There’s many flowers and plants to enjoy. There is also a fun bamboo forest area.

Volcanoes National Park is only 5 minutes away. After a day of hiking and site seeing relax in the courtyard hot tub.

We recommend the buffet breakfast at Volcano national parks.

Enjoy Hilo only 40 minutes away or Punalu’u beach (black sand) 35 minutes the other direction.
Whether you’re relaxing indoors or planning your next adventure, this fabulous spot offers a wonderful blend of comfort and charm.
Remember to plan for cooler weather here in Volcano. If coming from outer islands it is the best staycation with cool nights and on clear nights laniākea (unlimited heavens above)

The home was perfect for our group of 7. The kids were able to explore the vast property, feed the goat, cow and chickens and play with the puppies. It was a magical vacation. It's not far from VNP but feels very secluded. The hosts are so sweet and welcoming. There is a full sized fridge/freezer which was important for our large group and an induction burner. We will absolutely stay here again next trip.

We loved staying here! Check-in was quick and effortless and our hosts were great! They even let us know that the Eruption 44 had begun. We weren't sure, so I'm so glad they knocked on the door to let us know! Bonus that we were super close to Kilauea and were in the park, parked, and walking to the viewpoint within 15 minutes of leaving the house. The kiddos adored being able to play outside and interact with the animals. Their favorite was feeding the chickens and gathering their eggs and playing with the dogs. Even my youngest daughter (who is terrified of dogs and screamed the first time she saw them) was petting them and playing with them by the time we left. Anyway, all that to say, we had an amazing stay and would 100% stay here again!

My family had a great time at the Pali'uli estate. It's about 2 miles from the Volcanoes National Park and takes about 10 minutes to get to most of the great spots to view and eruption. Our hosts lent us umbrellas and lights for going to the park. Plus they are extremely knowledgeable. The cabin had plenty of room for our family of 3. They have 2 bedrooms each with a king size bed, and one with 2 additional singles. A large family could easily be accommodated. There are 3 smaller food stores nearby, but if you want to fill up the fridge, you might need to head back towards Hilo. We cooked eggs that the hosts' chickens provided each morning. There were sheep, a cow and a goat in addition to the chickens. We have a ranch and enjoy animals. We feed them each day, and now my son wants a cow.The hosts also have 3 small very friendly dogs.Lastly, the water was all from rain, and it tasted so clean and soft. Not like all the chlorinated water we got on the west side of the island.Highly recommend saying with them.

Your family was the best first guest anyone could ask for. Very easy to talk to and fun to engage with. Thank you for staying with us and hope to see you again.

Hello my name is Julie and my husband Corey and I bought Pali'uli Estate in 2025. It has been a bed and breakfast for over 20 years. We are working on renovating the buildings and land. I am originally from Northern California. My husband is from O'ahu. Corey is Hawaiian/Chinese and was instantly drawn to this parcel of land.

Why they chose this property

Volcano Village is a unique area of the Hawai'i islands due to the fact that it is on an active volcano called Kīlauea. It is also cold unlike most of Hawai'i. Volcano has always been my children's favorite place to vacation, so they could be in the cold. Growing up on O'ahu they were always hot.

What makes this property unique

Pali'uli Estate has old Hawaiian rock walls running all through the property. 'Io the Hawaiian hawk flies over our land which is rare and beautiful. We have wild turkey who have claimed our place as theirs. There is also wild pigs and pheasants. We have old growth Koa in the back area of Pali'uli Estate. The property was owned and built by Reverend Bond whose son was very well known in Kohala as Doctor Bond. When we bought the house the library still had old book dated 1938 with the Bond family names.
