Nestled on a golf course, this Volcano (Big Island, Hawaii) this large Hale Palila A-frame cottage is 5 minutes’ drive from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.

There is a Queen bed in the loft area, and 2 sofa beds in the living room area to sleep up to 6 comfortably when sharing sofa beds (2 on one sofa bed)

A balcony and free WiFi are provided.

PARKING Free public parking is possible on site in the driveway

Free tea, coffee and hot chocolate are provided in the fully equipped kitchen at Hale Palila.

Garden view and mountain views are featured from all rooms.

A 5-person hot tub is located on the terrace as well as a BBQ. All outside areas are shared between guests.

In-unit laundry facilities are offered. There is a washing machine & dryer on site.

Punalu’u Black Sand Beach is home to many sea turtles, Black Sand Beach is 0.9 mi away. Hilo International Airport is 40 minutes’ drive away.

Nestled on a quiet dead-end street by Volcano Golf Course, it’s just minutes from Volcano National Park, making it the perfect base for hiking, exploring, or a round of golf. The cabin itself is cozy and private, surrounded by majestic old Ohia trees. After a long day, relaxing by the fireplace or soaking in the hot tub under the stars is pure bliss. The views are stunning—you can take in the beauty of Mauna Kea and Mauna Loa right from the property. This is truly one of the best Airbnbs I’ve ever stayed at. Whether you’re escaping for peace and quiet, or just looking to immerse yourself in Hawaiian nature, this place has it all. Highly recommend this wonderful retreat—I can’t wait to come back!

We enjoyed our time here. It is an amazing location, with the NP so close by. The cottage is a little closer to glamping, but it has everything you need for a comfortable stay (for us, a week).

This property is in a great location in the Volcano area with easy access to the national park. It is only a few minutes to the visitors center and a short extra drive to some of the restaurants in town. The house in on a very nice piece of land with beautiful flowers and backs up to a golf course. There are two A frames right next to each other that share the hot tub, which in on a big deck in between the houses. This isn't a luxury stay as the house is a little older, but it is comfortable and the location can't be beat for exploring the park.

We loved staying in this beautiful A-frame cabin. The grounds were lovely and peaceful and it was a quick, easy drive into Volcanoes National Park. The host was responsive, and check-in was very easy.

Very good location for park access, a bit limited for food options nearby, but the local brewpub had excellent food. No real heat so it was a bit chilly in early Oct. Could use some more thorough cleaning but nothing was gross. Did not try the hot tub, it looked a bit murky. Overall the property is showing some age but was comfortable enough and a great location for the park.

The property was quiet and enjoyable. We used the hot tub and found the location and ease of access to Volcanoes National Park great for our vacation. Due to what I think was time zone differences, I did have to book the location twice before I was able to get the confirmation.

I msgd the owner 1 week ago to advise her of the issues as I did not want to leave a terrible review. She hasn't responded so I'm warning other travelers:Major amenities were fireplace, hot tub, BBQ grill, coffee maker and washer/dryer. ONLY the washer/dryer was acceptable. The hot tub is unuseable. The cover is duct taped together and so water logged that 2 people could barely lift it to look inside. the insde is way over-chlorinated and has a lot of dirt/grit on the bottom of the tub. Yes, there's a fireplace, but not a stick of firewood other than one small presto log. And we didn't find anywhere in Volcano that had firewood or more presto logs for sale for our 3 day stay. The BBQ is missing all the handles on the lid, making it impossible to lift safely if it's in use and hot. We couldn't use it as it was unsafe, full of old ash and no briquets available. The coffeemaker is a joke. It's an old 1 cup at a time Kuerig type. No pods were left, it had a small basket to put in a tablespoon of ground coffee. The resulting cup of coffee was full of grounds and was a waste of the good kona coffee we brought. Additionally the closed cabinets of bath linens, kitchen cleaning supplies, and pots and pans were moldy. Also, though there is a working hair dryer, the outlet in the bathroom is broken. We stayed only 2 nites. Couldn't stomach a 3rd night in this old, dirty, broken down shack.

Quiet, great stay for family vacation

We loved our stay here. The cabin is definitely that- a cabin nice and quiet, with most anything we could need for our stay, close enough to the volcano national park but away from the busier places when we were done for the day.

Great Place to be in Volcano

This is our second time staying at what my daughter calls it the "A" house. We never want to leave this place. Clean, peaceful and really close to the Volcano National Park. Can't wait to go back.

Cute cabin perfect for exploring Volcanoes National Park

Cabin was cute, clean, and right beside the national park enterance. The kids loved the hot tub in the evenings! Owner provided all info needed so check in was easy! There were even fresh flowers decorating the tables inside. Great deal!!

Rustic, but great

We loved our stay! It was rustics, but had everything we needed and was literally minutes outside of the national park. After hours and hours of hiking, we loved coming back to the hot tub!

Quiet stay by VNP

Beautiful location overlooking a golf course, with scenic views of nearby volcanos. Short drive to VNP. Definitely a bit chilly in winter, but there are space heaters and plenty of blankets. Cabin is well equipped for cooking.

Location was good

Good location. Very close to volcano national park, the area around the property is private and beautiful. However, the Property is in need of repair, the back exterior patio door is broken and doesnt lock, there is a hole in the deck near the hottub with caution tape surounding it, loose boards on the step, leaking sink pipes in bathroom, the tv wouldnt turn on and an over all musty smell and feel. I didnt end up staying at the property. I left shortly after check in. I attempted to contact the owner at the contact number given, i left a message and did not recieve a call back.

Perfect location in a cozy cabin

Loved everything about the place, and more importantly the location. Cozy, in nature, plenty of space, super close to the park. My only constructive feedback would be to replace the caulk in the stand-up shower and the sliding back door doesn’t open very well. Thanks for the cool experience!

Absolutely a beautiful cabin

10 mins away from volcano National park! We ate our dinner and then visited the park again in the dark. So convenient! Enjoy the beautiful view out side the cabin as well! Highly recommend this cabin for your volcano park stay!

Rented both cabins for my family and I. The cabin was cleaned and stocked well. The yard was great for the kids and the location was quiet and peaceful. Palila had a bigger kitchen and Nene has a bigger bathroom. A screen door on Palila side and sliding glass doors on Nene side were broken and the hot tub was poorly maintained. Other than that, we were really enjoying the property until a man arrived in the middle of our stay unannounced and started unloading supplies and working on the hot tub. I wasn't given any notice of his arrival and when I asked him to come back after we checked out he responded with needing to prep for the next guests and that it was the most convenient time for him. It was extremely uncomfortable and interrupted our access to the space for a few hours.

Cabin feel on the Big Island

When we got in, the place had not been cleaned but nothing was overly dirty, laundering easy and as a result the owner waived our cleaning fee. Overall, I thought the place was a bargain for the price and our family of six fit nicely. Since volcano is higher in elevation, it is colder there than the surrounding areas and the numerous heaters in the house were put to good use!

From check in to asking for a lost item, communication has been terrible and what you think is a bedroom is actually the living room.To address moldy sponges, no paper towels, and no lighters for the fireplace (it was cold and our only heat source) the host gave us another number to call for all things but booking. The number didn’t work. I asked the after hours plan and got an answer that said I had to wait.The second bedroom is actually the living room. They’ve turned the front entry way into a “bedroom” by putting a door between the entry way and kitchen.To find this place they email you instructions to look for the sign 32 and let you none of the maps work to find it. They could give you a pin or an actual map, but they don’t. And good luck with the sign.. it’s wood and blocked behind a bush.Finally, my 4 year old left his blanket, I reached out and heard nothing. Instead the host gave me a bad customer review. I’ve stayed at many rentals and this was the worry communication, direction and most misleading host I’ve ever experienced.
