123 year old charmer! You will love this 9 bedroom/ 10 bathroom stone mansion crown jewel of The Englewood Arts District in Independence, MO. It was the 1st house in the area and still standing proudly on almost 2 beautiful acres. Are you a Chiefs or Royals fan? Well if so, you will be so close to the stadiums if you stay at “ The Hawthorne “. It has been refurbished but still has the fun creaks in the floor and old character charm of a historical home while being beautifully furnished for your family to comfortably enjoy and spread out. It’s over 7,000 sq feet with a fully stocked commercial kitchen complete with 3 dishwashers. The commercial sink will actually have your children wanting to do the dishes. There’s a game room garage that has a pop a shot, ping pong table, shuffleboard, a multicade video game ( has 60 different popular games), exercise bike, darts, TV etc , billiards room with CD jukebox, lots of board games, bee themed tea room, several smart TV’s and a baby grand piano. For the couple who wants to really get away from the crowd there is also a newer addition apartment complete with all necessities and an office work space if you need that quiet time to work. We do have a high chair, pack and play, a crib and a mini bedside crib for the little ones in your crew.
We have a large circle drive that could accommodate approximately 10 cars.
Please let me know before your arrival or during your stay if you have any questions. We love communication and want to help make your stay as wonderful as it can be.
Cute older neighborhood with the upcoming Englewood Arts District just down the road. Make sure to make a reservation for Vivilore restaurant nearby. It’s amazing food and an adorable shop! The town square of Independence is about 2 miles away. So many neat restaurants and shops there too!
We do have a fire suppression system (commercial grade) throughout the home. Please let your kids know about the fire equipment and to please not pull the alarms or throw balls or anything in the house. If one breaks it would set off the water sprinklers inside causing damage. This is a very old house. Built in 1900 so outlets are rare and light switches may be high on walls or just odd in general. Please understand the nature of an old house and give grace to any flaws or noises it may have. The paint isn’t perfect, the floors may creek and slope in places etc. it’s not a perfect house by any means but hopefully it’s perfect for your family to enjoy and make memories in. We love it and love the charm of old houses. We hope you do too! Please see the notebook I have made for more tips and tricks about the house. PARTIES OR EVENTS NOT ALLOWED. MAX OCCUPANCY 20. NO SMOKING. MAX CARS 10, NO 3RD PARTY BOOKINGS. ID MUST MATCH BOOKING INFORMATION.

Just a wonderful home for three generations to relax, visit, and play. The kitchen was an inviting hangout from morning coffee to dinner and dessert. A 10-minute drive to a Royals game was a nice bonus.
We had the absolute best time!!! We came with 15 friends for a weekend and this house was PERFECT!!! Super clean! Beds were sooo comfortable! We will definitely book this house again!!!
This place was awesome. We had plenty of room for all of our family. Would recommend this place to anyone. Very beautifully decorated and comfortable place to relax.
18 women from our family spent 3 nights in this beautiful home. It was just as shown. Comfortable, well appointed, and absolutely perfect for our group.
Best accommodations in the City! Large group, clean, tons of space, historic, etc… group had a blast and the place was clean and owners were great! We’ll be back!
We had a large group who were in town for a wedding at Powell Gardens. The accommodations were perfect. It allowed us to have our own rooms and space and come together for meals and entertainment. This place is very well appointed. Loved the separate apartment. Everyone had fun playing ping pong, and the other games. Great place to stay!!!
We had a great stay! Everything was as described in the listing. Pamela was so easy to communicate with and responded immediately to any question. Perfect for a family reunion….everyone had their own bathroom, great gathering spots throughout the house, commercial kitchen, and a garage full of entertainment. Highly recommend!!
Our large group, consisting of 14 adults, had plenty of space, activities, comfortable beds and were happy with the on-suite bathrooms. There were those who enjoyed playing the piano, shooting pool, and putting on the green. We took in many of the historical sites in and near Independence and had an enjoyable reunion.
Our stay was a reunion of five couples who knew each other as undergrads. All 5 couples were married in 1968 and enjoyed our annual reunion … to celebrate our 56th wedding anniversaries this year.
Pam was awesome. The house was as advertised and worked great as our base for a guys gokf weekend. Would love to set up future trips around Pam's properties. She was extremely accommodating with questions and ensuring our weekend was a success
I will highly recommend this house. We had 16 people and everyone had room to spread out. The rooms are spacious and beautiful. The kitchen is amazing, the garage is full of stuff to do and the yard was more than big enough.
This property was perfect for our large family.
We had no plans and ended up at the house all weekend. There was plenty of time in the yard, garage and kitchen. We truly enjoyed our weekend and the host was great to work with.
pe to come back again soon. The home is absolutely prostine. Plenty of room for everyone to be together or find some quiet time alone. Well stocked for large groups and plenty of activities for the young ones to keep them occupied. Definitely recommend this place for family reunions and the like. Pamela was very helpful and really on top of communication and was readily avaliable to answer questions. Five star stay!
We had a great time! The house was very family friendly. We had plenty of room and everything we needed. The game room was a hit with everyone. We also loved the outdoor space, the kids had a great time. The kitchen was lovely to cook in for a large group. The location was great, with easy access to KC attractions. Pam was a wonderful host - communication was great and she was super accommodating. We really enjoyed our time here and would definitely stay again.
House was perfect! Nice and clean. It was huge! Plenty of room for all of us. Kids loved the game room and the back yard. Adults loved the history and details throughout the house! Pam was amazing too! Very easy to get a hold of and quick to answer our texts. Thank you for an amazing getaway!!
This house exceeded expectations. We had a group of 18 ranging in ages from 6 to 75. The outdoor space was a hit with all the kids in spite of cooler November weather. The commercial style kitchen was fully stocked with everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving meal. The indoor space had so many areas of entertainment and relaxation. We couldn’t have asked for more. The stay was great and we would highly recommend!
Our extended family (20 of us) enjoyed a great stay at The Hawthorne. Firstly, it was clean and comfortable. The various common rooms made it easy to gather in groups big and small. And we made full use of the game room and fun outdoor spaces (mini golf, basketball, carts & scooters — all ages enjoyed our stay). Having 9 bedrooms with full baths in every bedroom but one was a real plus and made life so simple for such a big group (we gathered to celebrate my moms 90th birthday and everyone could get ready at the same time). Pam is an excellent, kind and responsive host. We would definitely stay again.

Why they chose this property
The Hawthorne is a historic charming house with lots of character. Room to spread out and lots of fun amenities for everyone.
What makes this property unique
Large 1900’s home with lots of charm. It was an old bed and breakfast so it has many bedrooms and bathrooms. It has a newer addition to it that’s perfect for a couple who wants to get away and have some quiet time away from the group if needed.
