The Town of Banner Elk and its surrounding areas offer a quality of life that is sought by many folks today; a beautiful mountain retreat away from the busy crowds where one can still have access to the finer conveniences found in larger metropolitan areas. Banner Elk itself, is a quaint mountain town located 30 minutes from Boone, home to Appalachian State University. This beautiful Avery County setting is surrounded by some of the highest mountains east of the Rockies including Grandfather Mountain and Beech Mountain. The Blue Ridge Parkway traverses the county just six miles from town. Banner Elk is home to Lees McRae College. It features a lively arts and crafts cultural scene, complete with an intimate pedestrian shopping district of upscale boutiques and outstanding restaurants, several of which are regularly featured in national travel and food magazines.

It is highly recommended to bring a 4WD or AWD to access Beech Mountain. During winter months we highly suggest bringing snow chains to assist.

Quiet and good sized unit

Overall our stay was pleasant and met our expectations based on the description and pictures. There were a couple of things that were a bit confusing, as there were many light switches in the unit but never seemed to do anything or weren't connected to the light/fan, it may be helpful to label them? The thermostat didn't seem to work and it took a couple of people to turn the fireplace on. The TV in one of the bedrooms did not work at all and the back porch screen door was damaged when we went to look out the back porch, we didn't notice it at first, as the door was propped open. The beds were very comfy and the water pressure in the showers was great. Overall, since we were not in the unit that much, the issues did not really have a big effect on our stay.

Banner Elk Townhouse

Inside townhouse was clean and nicely decorated. Liked that both living room and bedrooms all have large TV’s. Starting a load of linens before leaving is a reasonable request but having to wait around to dry them seems a bit much. Having to take out trash to a trash/recycling center 2 miles away is a bit much also. I would think this should be a cleaning team responsibility.

Not A Repeat

The location was great and the property was okay, but several things weren't in working order, including the thermostat. We ended up making use of the space heaters provided for the weekend. The bath mats also hadn't been washed in what looked like a long time which was gross. Freezer was dirty too. The place served the purpose for a weekend in Banner Elk but I would go elsewhere next time. Granted, we did not contact the rental agency but I feel like these things should have been properly addressed before a guest's arrival.

Don’t expect what’s not listed!

This home is beautifully appointed with comfy beds, but lacked some of the items you might expect such as: hand soap and blow dryer. I have to admit as mentioned by owner, they aren’t listed in description but I guess I just expected it. My only suggestion would be to add some more details like: hand soap, shampoo, blow dryer and such to make your stay easier. I would highly recommend staying here, but just be more prepared.
