About this property

Magnificent ocean views, Dingle Peninsula, County Kerry, Ireland

This stunning setting is located at Coomeenole Strand overlooking the Blasket Islands at the very tip of the Dingle Peninsula in West Kerry. This turn of the century stone house stands regally above the sea with a beautiful walking and swimming beach below. Uninteruppted views of the ocean with a direct walk to the beach. The 3 fields adjacent to the house are used by our neighbor for grazing sheep and cows. The village remains as a largely farming and fishing community. It is a 15 minute drive to Dingle Town. The historic Dingle Way walking route is well marked and nearby. Dingle offers excellent dining, shopping, farm markets, fishing and sailing. The many pubs in the town feature the traditional Irish music of West Kerry. Prehistoric and early Christian sites are found throughtout the Dingle Peninnsula.

It is a 2 hour drive from Shannon Airport and a 45 minute drive from Kerry Airport. Train service runs regularly between Dublin, Tralee, and Kerry Airport.

Spectacular scenery and walking trails. There are an abundance of prehistoric sites dating from the 3rd century as well as many early Christian ruins from the 6th and 7th centuries. These sites are accessible to walkers and by car. Another notable feature are the clean, beautiful beaches around the peninsula. The town of Dingle has music in an unusual variety of pubs as well as superb local foods. This is a traditionally Irish speaking region.

Spectacular!

This was a spectacular property and a wonderful experience for me and my two adult daughters to spend three nights around Christmas time during Covid. The home was clean and cozy. The kitchen was wonderful.Local hiking was great. The Neanderthal ruins were interesting. I have recommended this location to friends and I’m sure that we will return again sometime.

The Perfect Vacation House

Spent a week on the Dingle Peninsula and wish we could have stayed for two. Plenty of room in the 3 bedroom house. Had all of the appropriate amenities and kitchen utensils you will need. The perfect location for those who want to get away from everything yet still be close enough to civilization. Located by the coast overlooking Slea Head Drive and the Blasket Islands. Majestic views, spectacular sunsets, local hiking.... can not say enough good things about this house. The peat fires on a chilly rainy evening were just incredible. Thank you again!!!

Amazing home away from home

What a special place. This home is perched just above the beautiful Coumenoole beach, on a spectacular Slea Head drive. The views and the surroundings are stunning. You are immersed in a small village life in the midst of the rugged beauty of Ireland. The home is filled with charm and artful touches throughout. It's spacious, clean and offers all the comforts of a home. You awaken to the amazing ocean views and go to sleep to the sound of the waves. The kitchen is very well equipped and lacks nothing for home made meals. Not only does the area has so much to offer, staying in at the cottage is just as enjoyable, as there are plenty of comfortable places in the cottage to cozy up and read. There is an extensive book library and the CD selection is fantastic. We had the most wonderful stay and would love to have the opportunity to return some day.

Coumeenoole flying visit

We stayed at the house for 3 nights and really enjoyed our stay. The views are stunning and the beach is stunning and only a few mins walk away. The kitchen is well equipped. There is no TV which is a problem for some people. The nearest shop is 20 min drive away and its about 30 min drive from Dingle. Would have preferred white sheets and towels, just a small point. This is for people who like tranquility and getting away from it all.

Cosy home in a spectacular location!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this home. We loved that the contents and decor remain authentic. We were left wanting for nothing. We called it "home" for the duration of our stay. Coming home after walks out on the Head, the living room was a cosy inviting space greeting us on our return. We could not fault our stay here and would love to stay again.

Holiday in Coomenole

We really enjoyed our stay in Coomeenole. The house is lovely and very comfortable. The decoration is smart and restrained, and the simple structure of the original house is preserved, with a well-equipped kitchen added to the rear. We had a couple of minor issues early on, but these were dealt with very quickly and without fuss. We travelled around the peninsula but also spent many hours just looking out the Blaskets and ‘An Fear Marbh’. A really beautiful part of the world, and a wonderful holiday.

Wild Atlantic

This site house is stunningly located overlooking Dunmore Head the most westerly point in Ireland and Europe, and the now uninhabited Blasket Isles. Don't come here expecting mild gentle weather for your stay, we had several days of very strong winds, exhillerating but not for those who want their hair to look perfect all day! The house has everything you need for a comfortable stay. There isn't a TV which was no loss to us, but an excellent relevant book collection is provided by the owner. The WiFi connection is pretty good given the remote location though phone coverage patchy. The house has been very thoughtfully decorated and fitted out using local crafts people. The local people are incredibly friendly, and many are Irish speakers, this being a gaeltacht area.

Incredible location, neighbors ten meters away right next door.

My wife and I stayed here for nearly two weeks, we loved the Dingle peninsula of Ireland with its dramatic coast line and gale force windy weather. From the pictures of this house on the Home Away website you don't realize that this house is located directly beside another two story house and yet another smaller house just below. If you're expecting seclusion you will be disappointed, especially since the tremendous view is completely mared by thousands of daily tourists fighting for parking at the nearby parking area. It's a shame really because simple honesty from the owner could have gone a long way, the neighbors were charming and not a problem at all and the views are absolutely stunning. Fortunately the tourist hoards don't really start until 10:30 a.m. and are usually gone be 6:00 p.m. leaving wonderful views of the rugged peninsula without the tour buses. The house itself is very charming, they've done a lovely job of maintaining its historical charm combined with bright colored furniture and comfortable beds and bedding. If you expect simple things like a microwave to reheat your tea you will be disappointed, no microwave, but the other appliances are new so you've got that going for ya. Perhaps the strangest/silliest oversight is that the INCREDIBLE view on the first floor, where you will spend all of your time, is blocked by two very large shrub bushes which could easily be removed or transplanted. Bottom line, keep these facts in mind so that you are not disappointed expecting total seclusion or privacy an visit this area, you will not be disappointed with the beauty, the charm or the views. Shelia’s house set the standard for our three week trip up the west coast of Ireland!

We went rowing in Dingle Bay in a modified curach, a traditional fishing boat, with a member of the Dingle Rowing Club; went hiking to the edge of Dunmore Head; found field mushrooms and watched seals on Blasket Island; ate black sole, hake, monk and other local fish; listened to the fiddle of Jeremy Spencer, accordion of Meabh Ni Bheaglaoich, guitar of Matt Griffin, and lovely singing of the owner of John Benny’s; followed a farmer herding his sheep from one pasture to another up the road to Conor Pass; awoke on our last full day here to a double rainbow arching over Dunmore Head; for the first time burned peat in your fireplace, having burned wood and coal in fireplaces all my life; Planned to write a book of travel poems that will include one about our stay here.

Amazing Location, Excellent House

I can't say enough great things about this house and location. It was such a beautiful place to stay, the views are amazing and the fact that you can just walk out to Dunmore Head or Coumeenoole Beach is incredible. We found the house to be very comfortable and well appointed and communication with Shelia was easy. The library greatly enhanced our experience as we were able to read about Irish history and the culture of the Blasket Islands. I felt lucky every day that we were able to stay at this great house.

This is the most perfect place on earth

The property has million dollar views of the Blaskets and Dunmore and Slea Head and is steps from Coumeenoule beach. It’s a traditional Irish stone cottage with all the mod cons, including dishwasher and washer dryer and internet. The interior is extraordinarily tastefully done in keeping with the spirit of the home. Comfortable beds I’m bedrooms with gorgeous sea views, a complete kitchen with cows grazing put the back.

Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow! Wow!

"Wow!" is what we heard from each others lips as we got out of our car at Sheila's place in Coomeenole. The 360 degree views are awesome. The house itself is an immaculately kept rustic home that is comfortable for living and lounging. We were two couples who loved the kitchen! It was a terrific space to create meals, gather to plan for the day, then sit with a glass of whiskey or tea and reflect on the day's events.

Great rustic, but comfortable cottage in fantastic location.

Great rustic cottage in fantastic location. Well maintained and has everything needed to feel comfortable. Driving is tough in the area with two-way, one-lane roads. Suggest to get the smallest possible car that still holds all the luggage. Great fishing off the rocks at Dunmore Head in walking distance.

Best rental experience ever

This property is so special: while the pictures on this site are accurate and representative, they don't even begin to do justice to the spectacular setting! The house itself was immaculate and equipped with every necessity, as well as some important extras such as strategically placed light sensitive nightlights and the most excellent library of books and maps. Before arriving my husband and I were a little worried the distance from pubs/shops would be an issue because we wanted to minimize driving, but my concerns never materialized because there was so much to do right there in the Coumeenole/Dunquin area - hiking, reading, and generally relaxing! - and also we rented bikes which made Ballyferriter and Ventry perfect no-car destinations. Normally I am ready to leave a place when the time comes but this outstanding house and location made it tough to move on to the next adventure. Many thanks to Shelia for making the house available and appointing it so perfectly!

We are a writer and and artist who spend part of every year here to enjoy the beauty of the landscape and the quality of the Irish culture.

Why they chose this property

We came here in the mid 1980's before the Celtic Tiger struck. Many more people have discovered the treasures of the Dingle sbut it remains the magical place it has always been.
