This home is in a perfect location, walking distance to everything and on a beautiful street. We loved spending time out on the large porch. John and Jeri were the kindest and most hospitable hosts. We can’t wait to stay again.
John and Jerri were super kind and generous hosts, the home is clean and bright and beautiful as well as comfortable and well stocked. We will definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!

Our stay was excellent starting with a warm welcome from the owners and great communication throughout. The property was very well equipped to accommodate our large family comfortably for an entire week. The walk into downtown for restaurants and shopping as well as beaches is extremely convenient. This property is highly recommended!!

The house is very nice, and for the price I don't think you will find a better value. In two minutes you can walk to downtown and the marina. We are so happy that we chose this house, and woykd recommend it to someone who wants the best value in town.
My family had a wonderful stay at this property this past week. We haven't been to Charlevoix in many years together. This property was super-convenient to downtown and many of the familiar places we enjoy going. Access by car and parking were easy too. The front porch, back porch, and backyard seating areas were really great for us to use. Owner is essentially on-site should any problems arise. Enjoyed our stay!
Super cute house with all the amenities needed. Owners have a side apartment that we didn’t know about a furry stayed there.
Would recommend a larger tv in the family space. Everything else was a 10. Thank you
The house feels like home--comfortable living room and dining room, a spacious kitchen with appliances and utensils for cooking, two bathrooms, and three comfortable bedrooms. We were able to enjoy the front porch as well as the back porch for morning coffee. It's two minutes to town, and so easy to reach other destinations from this location.
Renting this property was very easy. John and Jeri were very accommodating and communication was good. They allowed us to have a late check out. Very few properties will rent to us due to our cats. We will go back to Dixon House.
This was our 5th trip up to Charlevoix for Apple Fest, and by far this house was the best location in terms of walkability to Downtown that we have ever had. We really appreciated this factor since we have two small children. The bedrooms were all a nice large size. The front porch was so beautiful and inviting, as well as the back patio area was very nice and a new grill was included for use at the property.
The house was very spacious and had some little extras that were helpful for us, ie. pac n play, umbrella stroller, children’s books.
John and Jeri we also very accommodating to us requesting an early check- in too! Thank you!
They also left a beautiful welcome arrangement of chocolate bars, local MI wine, and chocolate covered cherries. Very sweet!
However there were some downsides... the full size bed in the middle bedroom was very uncomfortable. My husband jokingly commented, “at one point in the night I woke up and thought about relocating to the floor because I thought it might be more comfortable.”
While we certainly appreciate the charm of an old house (we had one ourselves), the creakiness of the floor upstairs proved
problematic for us with 2 little children being awakened (as well as adults waking to use the restroom in the middle of the night and waking others up). Additionally, I’m not sure that a single door in the house latched properly.
The cleanliness left a little to be desired, baseboard were very dusty and could have benefited greatly from some caulking and a quick paint touch up.
The bathroom situation wasn’t ideal. The upstairs bathroom didn’t have a shower (only bathtub).
I think we mostly found the squeaky floors and bathroom situation cumbersome because of the small children. But just something to consider for families.
The owners are very nice and communication was easy. They welcomed us with chocolate and wine, which was an unexpected treat.
We enjoyed our stay in their home a lot. It is inviting, charming and comfortable. In particular the Front Porch was a big hit! The house is well equipped and has everything one would need for a much longer stay.
The location of the house is perfect. The neighborhood is very nice with it's tree lined streets and sidewalks. Everyone enjoyed the walks including our dogs.
A big plus was also the short walk to downtown Charlevoix. No car needed.
We would definitely consider staying there again.
Location is great , can walk to downtown, sitting on the front porch is great, the use of outside grill was great, but if you need two complete bathrooms the one upstairs is a tub , no way to take a shower, that was the only drawback.

Front Porch Magic
My friends and I came down for a wedding at Castle Farms for the weekend. We all can't believe how perfect the Dixon House was for us. We spent as much time out on the porch every morning just enjoying the neighborhood and each other's company. I agree with another review that the pictures don't do it justice, but it fit 8 of us just fine and dandy. I highly recommend this property and will tell everyone about it. We not only loved the house itself, but we loved the location to downtown. The walk over the bridge and into downtown is not only very manageable, but nice to have after all the delicious food we were consuming. Thanks Dixon House for a wonderful visit!

About the host
Hosted by John & Jeri Duerr
I loved growing up on Dixon Avenue in Charlevoix. When my children were young, I wanted them to have some of the wonderful experiences I had during my childhood and when the opportunity presented itself to purchase this charming old house, I couldn't resist. We remodelled Dixon House in 2008-2009 with the idea of providing modern amenities while retaining its original character and its comfortable atmosphere. If you are looking for a relaxing vacation with family or friends, we think you will like Dixon House.
