About this property

Riverfront cabin adjacent to Glacier National Park.

Welcome to our Northfork Cabin! We are now accepting reservations for the 2026 season. Book early as we only have limited dates available! We encourage Fall visits when traffic and congestion in Glacier Park is down. September and October are excellent times to visit Glacier Park.

The home is a newly-constructed (2011) Appalachian-style log-sided home of 2000 square feet, 29X40 with two covered 8-foot-deep front and rear porches and a 3/4 loft. It is located on a one (1) acre parcel facing the North Fork of the Flathead River, a National Wild and Scenic River corridor and looks across the river into Glacier National Park. It is truly a unique getaway for those seeking solitude, privacy and the convenient access to nearby wilderness and national park recreational opportunities. Our cabin comfortably accommodates four (4) people maximum. No additional non-contracted guests are permitted. No exceptions.

We are 15 minutes from West Glacier, 10 minutes from Columbia Falls, 20 minutes from Whitefish and Whitefish Mountain Ski Area and 30 minutes from Kalispell and Glacier Park International Airport. Shopping for anything from groceries to antiques is available in these nearby trendy, Western-friendly communities.

Outstanding wildlife viewing opportunities await you here. We have frequent observations of elk, deer, black and grizzly bears, moose, wolves, river otter, beaver, coyotes, wolverines and, of course, all manner of waterfowl, raptors and songbirds like, golden and bald eagles, kingfishers, osprey, Steller's Jays, tundra swans, geese, mergansers, Sandhill Cranes, Great Blue Herons, barred and great-horned owls, ruffed grouse, red-tailed hawks and many others. This is prime wildlife habitat made only more enjoyable by the convenient location of the cabin adjacent to the scenic river corridor.

Peaceful time on the River

We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. It had everything we needed and more. We loved sitting out by the river, fishing, having coffee or wine in the evening. The cabin was close to glacier but far enough away to enjoy serenity and calm from the hectic days of GNP. We would definitely rent this cabin again!

Beyond perfect

I have rented VRBO places multiple times a year for the last 15-20 years. This place by far is the nicest cabin my family has ever stayed in. Alan was great to deal with and the setting of this place makes it very hard to leave.

River view

This was a fantastic stay! The cabin is beautiful & very well stocked. Alana was responsive & very helpful. She let us know about the need to buy a special pass for Going to the Sun Road, which we would never have known about, & they would have been sold out by the time we realized it. She saved our trip to Glacier! Love it here. Fantastic views of the river with River the cat. Hope to return.

Tranquility

My brother and his wife joined us for a trip to Glacier National Park in June. The Park is VERY busy and overrun with tourists. This cabin is a perfect retreat at the end of a hectic day fighting traffic and tourists in the spectacular Park. Each day we would retreat to the incredibly well built cabin and enjoy the view from the river bank and the paintings in the cabin done by one of the owners. We also perused a small paperback book compiled by one of the owners on the early history of the Park with fascinating pictures of the early days of development of the park. The cabin was extremely well furnished and we just loved the place.

Shangri-la on the North Fork

Chats at the riverside over morning coffee or dinner were just the ticket to the wilds of Montana. We dipped in the river, skipped stones, watched people float by, and spotted mule deer and deer on the far shore. Even during a heat wave, a couple fans kept the nights cool. The cabin was very comfortable and stocked to the hilt with blankets, books and pancake mixes - though more space left for guest things would be nice. Our host, Alanna, was easy to contact, River the local cat made fine company, and the spectacular scenery and short drive to Glacier made our stay just perfect.

Great place and great view

We were very pleased when we arrived at our VRBO. The description by Alaina Ober was perfect. We arrived and walked through the house. Then we walked outside to the river front. WOW! Was our thought at that moment. A brief suggestion was made by one of us that we didn’t need to visit Glacier, just sit here for the next few days. But of course, we did visit Glacier. Every afternoon after visiting here and there we returned to the river to enjoy the chairs that were placed there, and to enjoy River (the cat). River managed to make each of us feel at home by sitting in our laps and purring. Sitting by the river, we saw Elk and Grizzly. We visited with a number of fly fishermen and rafters, which was fun! Shortly after our arrival, a neighbor came over and introduced himself and offered any help we might need. This was a blessing later in our stay as we got a flat tire and needed a repair place. Apparently on our trip to Polebridge, we got a small puncture. Let me say though that the trip to Polebridge was worth the inconvenience! Back to the cabin, the windows surrounding the house provided a beautiful view of the woods and the river. It was a great place to stay! The access to Glacier was very easy, it enabled us to have breakfast at Eddie’s in Apgar several days. Just an FYI, we had another place reserved but Covid 19 struck so we had to find a new place. This is probably the only favor that the pandemic has done us. Mrs. Ober, thank you so very much for sharing your beautiful place with us.

A special place

This is a wonderful, cozy, secluded cabin right on the river. This is not an ordinary rental - this is your hosts' second home and they have gone out of their way to make it special and they trust you with the many thoughtful details that they have set out for their guests. An example: iPhone chargers by the bed, clean cushions on the chairs next to the river. A complete kitchen to prepare your meals. If this is what you are looking for, it's the place to stay. You will fine your host Allana responsive and helpful.

Great place!

Super well located, in close proximity to West Glacier entrance, North Fork area, etc. We LOVED having the North Fork within 50 feet of the back deck. Would wade out into the river in the evenings to ice our legs/feet after a long & hard day on the trail! Place was great, and had everything we needed. Totally recommend staying here!

About the host

Hosted by Alanna J. Ober

Host profile image
My husband and I are Montana natives and have spent our lifetimes surrounded by the mountains of Northwest Montana. We believe that we are at the center of one of the most spectacularly beautiful areas to vacation. We designed our cabin as our retirement getaway and a haven for those seeking either adventure or relaxation...or both! It is a convenient jumping off place for nearby wilderness or national park recreation. Our primary residence is nearby Kalispell, MT. I am a registered nurse and my husband is a retired teacher/library director/retired seasonal Glacier Park ranger.

Why they chose this property

The property has been in our family for the past forty five years. We constructed the cabin to take advantage of the scenery adjacent to the river and as a weekend retreat and retirement home. We purposely maintain the property in a pristine and natural setting to correspond with the scenic river corridor believing that our guests will appreciate the simplicity that we do. The cabin is fully furnished. It is our summer home that we open for limited rental bookings. All you need is your own groceries.

What makes this property unique

We enjoy the diverse wildlife viewing on the river corridor and the unsurpassed quiet associated with the private setting combined with all the modern amenities.

We include several cannisters of OC-10 pepper spray to borrow if you intend to hike and recreate in bear country.

Since subdivisions are no longer allowed on the National Wild and Scenic River corridor, we are uniquely grandfathered in along with six other adjacent properties with frontage on the North Fork of the Flathead River.

We even include the neighborhood feral/friendly cat, "River". No charge. If he warms up to you, you may have a friend for life. Or, alternatively, he may follow you home...
