About this property

Secluded and beautiful Mendenhall Valley retreat just 2.8 miles from the glacier

Please note; There are 2 listings for this house for our 2023 availability dates.

THIS listing, and price, is for the home as a 2 bedroom 1.5 bath (2/1.5), with an additional double bed in a loft room. So 3 beds total (a queen and 2 double size beds).

We also have another listing for our home as a 3 bedroom 2.5 bath (3/2.5) for a higher nightly rate. With this listing we open the main bedroom with an ensuite. We wanted to add flexibility to our traveling guests to fit their needs and budgets as best as possible.

In either format, booking guests will not be sharing the house with anyone and you'll have the house to yourselves.

We also offer a car rental to our guests for only $50 per night booked. It's a 2007 VW Jetta that seats 5. Great little car and much cheaper that renting locally.

Apologies for any confusion. Contact for more info.

WELCOME TO OUR HOME!!

Located just 4.4 miles from the airport and 2.8 miles from the Mendenhall Glacier, this is our private residence that we had built in1998. We love our home and want to share it with others while we're traveling ourselves. Our hope is that you feel at home while visiting the wonderful town of Juneau.

If you're coming to Juneau you already know, or have heard, about the beauty, history and adventures it holds. From our home, the Mendenhall Glacier is just 2.8 miles away. Auke bay (fishing, whale watching tours, Hidden Peak Brewery, etc) is just 2.6 miles away. Downtown Juneau and Douglas, with all their shops and attractions, are just13 miles away. Want a little peace and serenity, besides our front yard? Visit the Shrine of Saint Therese, which is only13 miles away. If you want to walk a wonderful trail along the Mendenhall river, it's just 1/4 mile away. If you stay at our home, you're centrally located for all that Juneau has to offer.

About our home. It's situated on a large lot with a "tiki" deck in the front where you can sit back and relax while enjoying an early morning coffee, or a late evening drink while watching the stars. Well, not really as it'll most likely be too light to see the stars. However, fall and winter star gazing is amazing if it's not raining.

Don't be surprised if you're visited by bear, deer or a porcupine during your stay. We usually see quite a few each summer as the house is surrounded by woods.

Off the family room you can enjoy a large deck (16' x 40') with a BBQ under a covered area. That way you can BBQ rain or shine. There is hot tub at the end of the deck, but unfortunately it is currently not functional. Hope to have it working, or replaced, by next summer. We have a large open yard that is surrounded by trees and views of Mt. McGinnis. Mt. McGinnis boarders the left side of the Mendenhall Glacier.

You'll have access to everything in the 2200 sq/ft house except the garage, storage pantry and owners bedroom suite.

Upstairs you'll have:
- Two bedrooms - one with a queen Tempur-Pedic bed and the other has a full size bed. Each room has a TV and closet.
- Full bathroom; with tub/shower combo, sink and toilet.
- A "loft" area with a full size bed, treadmill, and TV.
- Washer and dryer.

Downstairs you'll have:
- A great room with kitchen, family area and dinning area.
- A beautiful granite countertop kitchen and pretty much everything you need to cook at home if you prefer. Oven, stove, microwave, fridge, freezer, Keurig coffee/tea maker, pots, pans, utensils, plates, etc.
- There is an island and separate bar area for seating up to 8 in the kitchen area.
- A TV/family room with a TV and 2 couches, so you can sit back and relax on one side of the kitchen.
- A dinning area with seating for up to 8.
- A half bath.
- Open entry front room with two couches. Plenty of room for an air mattress if extra sleeping space is needed.
- Entry closet with a variety of games to play during your stay.

If you choose to stay at our home, we think you'll come to love it as much as we do!

Please reach out if you have any questions.

If you need a car during your stay, as previously shared, we have one available for our guests at an additional fee.

Great property, excellent location!
We really enjoyed ourselves here. Peaceful location. My sister and I took our Mom (84yo) to Juneau because it was a place she always wanted to experience. The house was great, the location is convenient to everything we wanted to do. Convenient walking trails and a river nearby for those morning walks. It was really an enjoyable week. Thank you for Mark and Katrina for being so helpful and responsive. The only hiccup was transport to the airport (10 mins away) at 6 am for an 8 am flight. Juneau seems to struggle with cab service. Four cab companies (two never answered) and no cabs available to schedule that early. Uber said no service but wanted me to book on demand in the morning (not a great idea to wait) and Lyft promised pickup by 6:10 am, but after several hours no Lyft driver accepted the gig. So Marc called Chris (the neighbor) who was kind enough to take us. Great guy! Wish I had said hello earlier to him and his family earlier in our trip. I highly recommend this property. It was a great experience!

Best Juneau location!
My family and my sister's family stayed at this home for a little over a week. It was conveniently located near the airport, hiking trails, and the glacier. It had plenty of pots and pans and dishes. We enjoyed the yard in the front with the grass and patio set and barbequed in the backyard. It was nice to have a washer and dryer for our use as well. We enjoyed the board games too. There was plenty of seating for everyone at the dining table and on bar stools. Plenty of hot water for all nine of us. The master bedroom was spacious and had a nice jacuzzi tub. The beds were comfortable and there was plenty of bedding. We were so glad that there were two cars that we were able to rent from the hosts. It saved us hundreds of dollars! We loved our stay and would highly recommend staying here. The hosts were easy to work with and very friendly with recommendations for things to do.

Katrina was born in Juneau and has lived here her whole life! Marc moved to Juneau when he was 7 and grew up here. Juneau has been a wonderful home to us both and a great place to raise kids. Now that we are reaching retirement age, we are wanting to travel to the locations on our "bucket list" and have also decided to buy a 2nd home where we can enjoy warmer weather. We did that and now are going back and forth between the two homes. We have the best of both worlds! We get to enjoy all the beauty and delicious seafood that Alaska has to offer and a place to escape when the weather turns cold and the skies turn gray. Juneau has been and will always be our home. Now we would like to share our home and Alaska's pristine beauty with you!

Why they chose this property

This property sits in a secluded area and shares 1.5 acres with just one other home. Though you're close to everything, being surrounded by woods makes you feel away from it all.

What makes this property unique

A great benefit of this home is that it is a home with most everything you need for your get away visit to Juneau.
