CONVENIENCE WITH A VIEW!

Centrally located in a friendly neighborhood mid-way between Downtown Juneau and the Mendenhall Valley, it is convenience with a view at an affordable price. A large deck, with great sun exposure, looks out over beautiful Gastineau Channel, Douglas Island and the majestic Chilkat Mountain Range. A home with 2 comfy queen beds, 2 two twin beds (trundle bed) and if needed a queen sized fold down couch. Its a perfect place to rest after a busy day out and about.
Some things very nearby:
Just down the hill is Project Playground. In addition to two small lakes, there are shelters, a playground, open field and walking path. It's a pleasant place for a morning jog, mid-day outing or evening stroll. For more vigorous activity, hike up to the Salmon Creek Reservior and enjoy the peaceful sounds of birds and flowing water, takes about 2 hours. DIPAC, the local salmon hatchery is just around the corner (1.9 miles). There you can learn about the life cycle of salmon and view other local sea life. Watch returning salmon go up the fish ladder and perhaps spot a seal offering motivation. Enjoy a fresh grilled salmon dinner at the Salmon Bake, an outdoor eating experience with live entertainment, located on the bank of Salmon Creek (1.4 mi). Costco (1.7 mi) and Fred Myer (4.3 mi) are nearby grocery stores. For a quick snack or meal-to-go, the Breeze-In Bakery and Deli is a good choice (1.4 mi ).

Great Juneau Option

This place is out of town, so you'll want a car or to have some flex on taxis, but it's a great house. Clean, good kitchen, location near airport so easy access to town or up to the ferry etc...good grocery nearby, nice neighborhood, host is helpful and communicative. Would stay again.

Like a home away from home

The main room was comfortable for the entire party. The bathrooms were well-stocked and clean. Kitchen had everything we needed with grocery stores a short drive away. While one mattress was a bit too firm, all guests slept well and had plenty of privacy and space. We would stay here again “in a hot minute”.

Outstanding vacation rental

The two story house is beautiful, well located in a quiet neighborhood close to the airport and ferry. Also close to many activities including glacier, hiking, whale watching tours, downtown and grocery stores. The house is perched on a hill with a beautiful view of a wetlands and mountains. Great laundry facilities, wifi, and TVs. There is a lovely deck with a grill and outdoor table.

Great, quite home to sty in!

We enjoyed our stay in Merigwen's quite, residential home. It was spacious and comfortable for the four (4) of us. The beds seemed newer and great for sleeping. The location made it easy to get to any part of town quickly. Downtown was a few minutes to the south. Auke Bay to the north was about 12 minutes away and our fishing trip from there was perfect. We needed so assistance from Marigwen and she took care of getting us washer detergent and aluminum foil ASAP.   If we come to Juneau again would return to Merigwen's home.

Great home base for Juneau excursions.

When it's not pouring down rain, the deck, BBQ, table and chairs are an awesome place to hang out and enjoy the views of Gastineau Channel and the Chilkoot mountains. The kitchen was nice, everything you need for cooking. No condiments or spices, so I brought little bags of seasonings just so I wouldn't have to buy it up there. Luckily the previous guest had left a bag of coffee for us. Beds are comfy, showers are hot and bathrooms are nice. Floors a little creaky so hopefully everyone is going to bed pretty close to the same time. Overall it made our time in Juneau really special since we were basically at a home away from home.

Check in and out was easy and location was good. House was quite creaky, particularly the stairs going up to the two bedrooms. It didn’t seem to bother sleeping kids much, but we used sound machines.

Great location to experience Juneau. Clean home comfortable beds, beautiful view from the back deck. My only complaint would be that the living room chairs aren’t comfortable for very long. The kitchen Could use a few updates, but overall very good experience. I would stay there again.

Terrific central location in a lovely quiet neighborhood. Clean, with a well appointed kitchen, and spacious for the four of us. We chose to stay here following a week-long cruise in July. Five minute drive from the airport. Ten minute drive into downtown Juneau, or Mendenhall Glacier. We really enjoyed the deck where we could watch eagles soar and the sea planes land on the water runway. We'd never seen berries so large on the backyard shrubs. Thank you for sharing your property with us!

Everything we wanted

Just as advertised. Spotlessly clean, quiet and peaceful, convenient to the city if you have a car. Nice view of the channel and the Chilkat mountains, as well. We will come back again!

Great location!

The house is compact and quite cozy. Just the right size. We had 4 people. One person stayed on the futon couch bed. The location is right in the middle of every location you want to go to. The residential street is quiet and the neighbors were also quiet. We cooked quite a bit and the kitchen is also just the right size. The only thing that we noticed is that the upstairs flooring is very noisy. When you walk upstairs, people in the house can hear the floors creaking. Also the toilets are fragile. Just flush a lot when using. Overall a great house to come home to after we went adventuring.

Functional, great location and view

Vanderbilt Hill is a great location - quiet neighborhood, lovely view from the deck chairs and mountain views in multiple directions. Kitchen was usefully stocked for cooking dinners. Easy parking for our rental car. It's a little dated, hard wood floors and beds a little creaky, but plenty clean and functional for our family (parents visiting their 2 adult kids working in Juneau who stayed with us during our visit). No issues.

Loved this cozy home!

This home is in the perfect location—a quiet neighborhood but close to downtown, walking trails, a great park, and more! We loved the location, as we were able to get in and out to adventure around with no issues. There are three bedrooms and a comfy futon in the living room. The view is perfect for sitting on the deck in the mornings and evenings. We had a great time and would recommend it to others.

Best bang for the buck!

This was a great place to stay with teens. It fits the needs of a budget conscious family. No frills, but everything you need! We loved the neighborhood and valued getting out of the downtown area!

Great rental for a long weekend

We had a great time just hanging. Around. I appreciated the kitchen being well stocked on the basics, coffee, cutlery, and other appliances. Better than I have had at most other vacation rentals, it made making what few meals we did make at the rental fairly easy

Merigwen was moved to Juneau from California by her parents at the age of 6. Upon seeing the then muddy streets of downtown, she was less than impressed and started to cry. Fifty+ years later, she is still here...raising her three children with her Japanese husband, Tom and thanking her parents for the beautiful place she calls home.

Why they chose this property

This area of Juneau receives great sunlight from morning to night. No matter where you want to go, you are nearly there. It's easy access to bike paths and the city bus line. Best of all, I love the view of the Chilkat mountains.
