About this property

Onu · Vibrant, Light-Filled “Onu Suite” @ La Dea

*NEW*
Ọṅụ means “joy” in Igbo and is so named because it’s filled with things that make us happy - bright colors, music, warm fires, local art, and a king-sized bed you’ll never want to get out of!

Nestled in midtown Santa Fe, this vibrant one-bedroom pet-friendly unit has everything you need for a two-day stopover or a six-month retreat.

Please note: due to COVID-19, we are asking that all guests be vaccinated to help keep our community safe.

A large, light-filled one-bedroom with a full kitchen and dining area and an embarrassment of options for musical entertainment.

Pets welcome, pets who can play the piano double welcomed.

There is a $100 per pet fee per pet, with a limit of two pets, not exceeding 100 lbs total. Please check pets in the number of people staying at the unit when you are booking.

There are two parking spots in front of the unit. La Dea is fully fenced and gated off of Agua Fria street.

A manager is available onsite, and can help with any issues that may arise.

La Dea is located in a bustling commercial and light industrial area less than a mile from Meow Wolf, 10 minutes from Downton and The Plaza, and near many exciting new restaurants, microbreweries and coffee shops.
The back of the property looks out on the Santa Fe river - a normally dry arroyo that runs all the way to the mountains, with the Santa Fe River Trail, a walking and biking path that goes through the whole city.

A car is recommended. There is a bus that passes in front of the property that goes to downtown, and a bike/walking path on the back of the property connected to the network of Santa Fe bike paths, but for all but the most adventurous, a car is necessary.
Welcome to the Onu Suite at La Dea

Onu means “joy” in Igbo - so-called because it is filled with all the things that make us happy: bright colors, music, warm, cozy fires. We think it’s what might come out of swinging sixties London had a love-child with Santa Fe in the 70s. We’re excited for you to discover this wonderful town and explore and learn about this historically rich part of the world while you relax with us! Here’s everything you need to operate and navigate this rental.

Wifi
Network is: La Dea

Front Gate Code
4341#
To EXIT - simply drive toward gate and it will open automatically. If it doesn’t respond right away, try backing up a little bit to make sure you’ve activated the sensor.

Door Code
You already have this if you’re inside, but just in case, it’s 2858. To lock the door, press the “Schlage” button.

Heating & Cooling
This unit is equipped with mini-split A/C systems for cooling in the summer months. These splits also provide the quickest heat source - they can be operated using the small white remotes. Please be sure to return remotes to their caddies. For extra warmth, enjoy a roaring fire!

Rain + Windows
At this altitude, the weather is constantly moving and changing - sunny one minute and a thunderstorm the next, so please make sure you always close the windows when you leave. The entire cottage can be soaked in an instant.

Altitude Self-Care
If you’ve never been to Santa Fe, welcome to 7,199 feet above sea level. You might take a day to adjust, so make sure you drink lots of water and be kind to yourself if you are sensitive to big altitude changes. If you are still feeling wonky after a couple of days, you can buy canned oxygen at Big 5 Sporting Goods to help you over the hump.

Noise Curfew
To be respectful to our neighbors and others on the property, please no loud outside talking or windows open dance parties after 10PM.

LIVING ROOM

Fireplace
If you are here in the cooler months, you’re going to love snuggling up in front of the fireplace. We’ve provided starter bundle for you and starter materials. More firewood can be found down the street at True Value Hardware on Siler Road or we can deliver another bundle for $20. Never leave the fire unattended, and be sure to extinguish it before going to bed. Also, please be mindful not to start a fire before you check out as it takes a while to extinguish.

Record Player
We’ve curated an eclectic mix of records from around the world that we’ve collected from thrift stores from every major city in America if you want to unplug. There is also an eighth inch input and dongle for your iPhone if you want to play your own music.

To work the record player, simply place a record on the turntable, then gently move the arm and drop it down on the outer ring of the record. To stop, press the stop button, and after a few seconds, the arm will return to its original place.

On the receiver, set the knob to “AUX” to listen to your iphone, and set it to “PHONO” to listen to the record player. (Make sure the TAPE A button is not pressed - otherwise only the tape deck will play)

Tape Player
To work the tape player, press the ON button, put a tape in with the thick tape part of the cassette down. Press play - if it stops, it needs to be rewound or flipped. On the Receiver, press the “TAPE A” button.

BATHROOM

If your skin wasn’t letting you know, you’re in the desert. We ask that you please be mindful of water use while you’re here. La Dea is on a well, drawn from an aquifer - every drop is truly precious.

Our hair products are by Innersense, a female-run hair care line that is fantastic for all hair textures. Free of parabens, silicones, sulfates, synthetic fragrances and other stuff that’s bad for your body and our community.

Because this shampoo is sulfate-free, you’ll want to put it in your hands first and rub together to activate the foaming agent.

For body wash you’ll find the incredible smelling Bathing Culture Mind and Body wash. Completely natural, non-drying and perfectly clean, we hope you enjoy your shower and bath time with this phenomenal soap.

In the laundry room, you’ll find a Dyson hair dryer if you’re here in the not “dry your hair outside in four minutes” season, as well as a first aid kit w/bandages, advil, alcohol swabs, antibacterial ointment, organic tampons and pads.

Black washcloths are for you to go to town on your face makeup with. Lighter washcloths are for non-makeup related wash time.

Please only flush toilet paper down the toilet. Any other products, including wet wipes that claim to be “toilet friendly” are big time liars, and tampons are especially effective at jamming up the system. Thank you for helping us to keep the pipes in tip top working order.

KITCHEN

We love to cook and get super bummed out when we Airbnb somewhere and the knives are dull hunks of metal that smash your delicate tomatoes, so we’ve filled this kitchen with sharp, working knives, (be careful) and other fantastic things should you wish to hole up in Strega and cook something up.

Water
This house is situated above an aquifer which has refreshing and delicious mineral water. It is filtered and clean - you can drink from the tap.

Coffee
We’ve partnered with Juan Certain of The Brew ABQ for all our coffee, who is a third generation Colombian coffee grower living in Albuquerque. His passion for coffee is boundless and his blends reflect that. You are enjoying a special blend made just for La Dea. A perfect medium / dark roast, you’ll find a French press waiting for you to make the perfect cup of coffee. Recommended brewing ratio is 1 wooden scoop per 4oz.

Tea
To steep tea, please use our french press which works for both coffee and tea! Our teas are all supplied by Artful Tea, a local, female-owned tea supplier in Santa Fe. There’s organic English Breakfast, which blends Ceylon, ASsam and Tanzania black teas and is produced in accordance with the Ethical Tea Partnership. For best results, use 1 level teaspoon per 6 oz of water, steep for 3 - 4 minutes. Do not over steep, but your serving can handle a second or third infusion.

The caffeine-free option is Egyptian Chamomile, which is a great sleep aid and has a relaxing quality if you like to start your mornings a little more calmly. To prepare, use 1 heaping teaspoon for every 6 oz of water and steep for 5 minutes. For reference our Kinto mugs hold about 11 fluid ounces.

Garbage / Recycling
In the kitchen bin, recycling is on the left, garbage is on the right of the dual receptacle next to the fridge. We appreciate any efforts to make our trash footprint as light as possible. Glass is not combined with regular recyclables, please see next section for instructions on how to dispose.

Glass Recycling
We’ve partnered with Broken Arrow Glass, a local family-owned company that does, in their words “creative glass recycling.” They take all our glass waste and turn it into glassware and other You’ll see a blue barrel outside, that’s for all your clean glass. They upcycle the glass into gorgeous glassware, napkin rings, terrazzo, and much more. Near the wall, you’ll see a large blue barrel with their logo - please put glass bottles in there if you can.

Compost
We have partnered with Reunity Resources Farm to compost as much food waste as possible. Near the glass recycling is a compost bin. Reunity Resources picks this up and turns this into beautiful soil, that we then put back on this property. The bags under your sink are compostable, and so you can just put your food scraps in there and toss the whole bag in the bin. If your bin fills up, you can toss it in the compost bin near the Broken Arrow barrel.

Spills & Stains
If you have an accident, no big deal - there are stain sprays under the sink. There is also a hand vacuum next to the fridge. Please use the blue rags for clean ups. Please let us know if there’s been a stain that needs attention.

Laundry
The washer dryer is located in the closet off the bedroom and the laundry detergent is under the kitchen sink.
