THE HISTORY of 1104 2nd AVE SE
The home was built in 1910 and our parents purchased it in 1968 and raised 10 kids here. Our father (Lloyd) worked several miscellaneous jobs, but for most of his adult life he was a truck driver. When the majority of the kids were young, our mother (Donna) stayed home during the days and waitressed in the evenings until she settled into working as a cook at Beckman High School for 20 years. The house itself really hasn’t changed much in the last 54 years that it has been in the Goerdt name. Our father passed away in 2000 and our mother then lived here alone for 20 years until she passed away in 2021.
Upon the passing of our mother, the question arose as to what to do with the house that had been the centerpiece of the family for so long. Six of the siblings wanted to keep the house and four siblings wanted to sell. It was ultimately decided that the six wanting to keep the house would buy out the other four and continue to maintain the home and to use it for holiday gatherings, birthdays, and other special occasions throughout the year.
We now offer our home to those who come to Dyersville to relive their foregone younger days of living in a small town, to visit the Field of Dreams, to see the beautiful 132-year-old Basilica of St. Francis Xavier (1 of 53 in the United States), to attend the annual Farm Toy Shows, or to just sit back and enjoy the place we have called home for so many years. Our family has enjoyed the time spent in this house and the memories that go along with it and we hope your experience is a joyous and memorable one.
