Cabins in a Clearing: Beech, Walnut & Chestnut - check all three
Cabins In A Clearing has 3 primitive cabins, meaning no electricityand no running water on the cabin site, built in the woods and is also located in the Hocking Hills of Ohio. (Walnut Cabin - Property # 2974863; Chestnut Cabin - Propty # 2974951 and Beech Cabin - Property # 2974931) There is a porch, fire ring and grill, heat is provided. Situated 13 miles from Old Man’s Cave. A double bed with linens is provided in Beech Cabin along with night stands, book shelves for clothes, etc., and a cafe table with chairs inside, a divided bench table on the porch and a picnic table in the patio. You can eat at the fire ring on cross-section posts if you like. A water line delivers water to a stand pipe along the driveway in a common area accessible by all. A waterproof usb receptacle is close to and behind the water stand pipe making charging of devices easy. Swimming is not permitted in either of the two ponds. Catch and release fishing is permitted when the pond area is not otherwise being used. Each cabin can host 2 adults comfortably and cots without linens can be provided with an additional cost for up to two kids.
We have now added private shower stalls to each cabin using water bags heated by the Sun. We tried them and on a 68 degree F day, three hours of direct sun produced heated water in excess of 105 degrees F, as hot as many home showers.
The picture of the deer standing about 20 feet in front of the cabin was taken around10:00 am on September 26, 2022.

Property is a scam. Address took me to someone's home whonwas not there. Contact phone number was disconnected and no response to messages through vrbo to the contact either. Had to get a hotel locally.
The cabins are the perfect location to Hocking Hills and to local restaurants/cafes. It's 5 minutes from town, 10 from Oasis 2, and 15 from the Old Mans Cave parking lot. The cabin itself was so clean.

The location was absolutely stunning and the cabin was cosy and felt very idylic. The hosts are absolutely lovely and we were made to feel as welcome as possible at every opportunity. Will absolutely be looking at coming back soon
It was very quiet and very clean cabin. The outdoor shower was def an experience. The host was very very accommodating. We will for sure be back. Highly recommend for a quiet, relaxing getaway.
Charging station and porta potties far from Cabin. Description says 1/2 bath, Where? No outlet at charging station to make coffee or anything. Had to park away from Cabin and make several trips. Water outlet not close to cabin either. Cabin itself was nice. I just wish the description was clearer.
When I think of primitive I think of a tent and sleeping bags and a trip to outhouses or a private spot to do your business.
Cabins in a Clearing is a step up; though the bathroom arrangements are as described above. There are porta potties but quite away from two of the three cabins. That isn't fun. The cabins are clean with a comfortable bed and linens, and while there is no electricity there are battery powered lamps indoors and a protected area to charge your phones and laptops.
Don't arrive after dark. You lose your bearings with no streetlights, and we had to hoof it a little ways. The inside was spartan but fit our needs. The property is nice and quiet; though after we switched cabins to the one closest to the restrooms, the road noise was tolerable ... this isn't a superhighway. The hosts couldn't be nicer; if you get there in time they'll loan you a cart if you have stuff to schlep.
I'd go back, but next time I might take a camping toilet and a battery-powered fan. The negative reviews worried me, but I found it to be a pleasant little getaway. Just pack for no electricity and a plan to get there before dusk.
Our family bought the property in 1954 when I was three years old. I have lived here most of the time since 1957. I built my own log home here in 1995-1996. I have lived here ever since. I am an Ohio attorney by trade but easing into retirement. My wife is from Spain and we are completing 24 years of marriage this year. Together we have made many improvements to the property over the years. I greatly enjoyed completing the promitive cabins with our own touches and labor. It was our desire to make them, even though primitive, to be comfortable, relaxing and fun.
Why they chose this property
This property is located less than 3 miles outside Logan the county seat of Hocking County, Ohio. Whether you wish to enjoy Wayne National Forest trails, the Hocking Hills caves area, pizza delivered to your door or one of the many restaurants in the area, you are only minutes away from them all. New Stratsville, touted as the Moonshine Capital of the World, is only a few miles farther out the road and is 4 wheeler friendly.
What makes this property unique
If you like wildlife, deer visit the common areas around the cabins virtually every day and night. When they come in, see if you can stay still enough that you don't scare them away. Although they avoid people, coyotes can sometimes be heard in the surrounding hills and down next to Old Town Creek. On Thursdays, the sound of a "hit and miss" engine from oil well production on an adjoining propoerty can actually lull you to sleep. It has a new engine and is so quiet that you soon forget that it is running. I took up the hobby of making wooden long bows. You can make one in about 16 hours after some practice. If I am around, I'd be happy to give you some tips to et you started or you might be able to give me some as well. My wife an I cook paellas in the original Valenciana style. We'd be happy to give you some tips on that or how to make the easiest Sangria you have every tried, if we are around when you stay. Hope to see you soon and hope you have a wonderful time wherever you choose to stay.
