A unique opportunity to sleep and relax overlooking the majestic Hudson River only one hour from the great cultural center of New York City. Located on a quiet street that ends at an entrance to the Palisades State Park with a 5 mile bike/hiking trail along the Hudson. Very unique location with spectacular river views. You can visit the museums and theater of NYC and come home to hike and relax and listen to the sound of the river. The house is a 5 minute drive from the Village of Haverstraw and 15 minutes from Nyack, with its charming shops and restaurants. Bear Mountain & Harriman State Park are within a half hour drive with a myriad of amazing hiking trails.

We felt that this is a great comfy place to enjoy Hudson river and its surrounding nature. The place felt lived in. The beds are comfortable and the river view from the bedroom is breathtaking. The kitchen is well stocked and the knife is sharp, which is important if you want to do some home cooking. We also enjoyed the hot tub after a day of hiking.

This was an amazing vacation. The host was so accommodating and helpful during our stay. She was available both times we reached out. [Our fault we had to call not hers.] The house had a cottage feel with a beautiful view that went on forever. Loved our stay and hated to leave. We can't wait to go back.

Great stay

I enjoyed very much all the artwork, plants and many books in the home. It was very cozy and comfortable to stay in on a rainy day. We liked walking to the end of the street to the park in the mornings. I would definitely stay here again.

Great Vacation Stay

The home was very comfortable and was a pleasant stay. We stayed for 10 days, and it had all the amenities you would need for an extended vacation. Enjoyed the view from the deck, the hot tub and beach. The place is a great spot if you are wanting to go into New York City. There is a trail right down the street which is great for running and biking. We would stay there again when visiting New York.

What a lovely place to stay! We reserved the Riverhouse during a visit to see our son at West Point. Our blood pressures immediately decreased upon walking onto the spacious balcony that overlooks the river. Our hosts were terrific, the kitchen was the best equipped in all of our VRBO travels, the beds were comfortable, WiFi was great, the living room (tv area) was inviting, everything was fantastic. We will surely book again!

Stay on the Hudson

The view of the Hudson (from many areas of the home, including the nice deck) is beautiful. It was obvious that a lot of love has gone into this home . It was comfortable and accommodating, having both up and downstairs sitting areas, and everything we needed. The hostess was very responsive.

Beautiful views!

We enjoyed our stay very much. Everything was spot on with the description of the property. The host was very responsive with questions even though she was on the other side of the world vacationing. The property is beautiful and well lit with a cool walk down to the water and a hot tub in the middle of nature. The deck is beautiful. We hung out there a lot and watched great sunsets and sunrises. There’s lots of privacy.

Peace and Energy from the River

The river view from the house was truly breath taking. There is a large deck on the back of the house and a stairway to the private beach which features a cabana with electricity and stove. You know right away by all the special touches in the house that it is owned by a talented artist. We were very comfortable there and we hope to return in the future.

Best View of the Hudson River Ever

Loved this place. Quiet street along the west shore of the mighty Hudson south of Haverstraw. Two bedrooms upstairs have stellar views of the river. The star of the house is the east facing deck outside. Had several meals on the deck and entertained some family there in the afternoons. Lots of blue jays and other bird kept us company. Place could use a deep cleaning. Cupboards were a little dusty. Parking is a little tight but generally OK. Overall, a great place to stay. I’d love to come back.

Best Hutson View

The house sits in a small Haverstraw neighborhood called Dutch Town. The street ends in a beautiful bike/hike path along the Hutson River. We spent a lot of time on the deck with an amazing view of the river and boat traffic. The inside of the house is very comfortable and you can tell much about the owner's travels around the world from the interesting items that adorn the house. We learned a lot about the history of Haverstraw and sculpter James Tyler by visiting the Haverstraw Brick Museum. All in all, we enjoyed a pleasant and peaceful four days.

Beautiful place

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay the week of August 1st. The house was clean and comfortable, and the views were fantastic. There was always something to look at on the river: the ferries, the barges, or sailboat races. We used the grill and kitchen to cook each night, eating out on the deck to enjoy the view. The house is not a far drive to Harriman State Park where we did some fishing and hiking, and we used the bikes on the hiking/biking trail at the end of the block. We took the canoe out on the river and searched the beaches for 'sea glass'. For people who enjoy outdoor activities, it is the perfect place. The hot tub was nice to relax the sore muscles after our days of hiking too! The owners are helpful and we would definitely recommend this place to anyone.

Nice getaway

We enjoyed our stay here- it was an eclectic house with lots to do. There were a few negatives, the house was close to the quarry (which smelled), the hot tub jets were weak, and we got bit up like crazy by something despite wearing bug spray, we think mites (possibly from hanging out on the deck at night?). But we felt like the house was fun and recommend it if you don't mind the negatives I mentioned. We did everything from canoeing in the Hudson, walking on the nearby trail, using the hot tub, cooking, and hanging on the deck. All the things we needed to stay for a week were there in the house. We loved the peach tree and the fresh herb garden too, its not too often you stay at VRBOs that have fresh/live plants.

I am glad you enjoyed the view from the deck, canoeing in the Hudson, the trail, the peaches and the herb garden. I think the smell you mentioned was from repairs happening on the railroad 150 feet above the house- which is temporary. Out of over 130 reviews, no one has ever mentioned a smell from the rock quarry.

Grandma’s house.

The views are amazing. The birds that come to the deck are incredible. The house is old. Most Everything in it is old. I don’t enjoy renting a house and the owners personal belonging are there. Family pictures on display. We were 4 people we had four old towels. Towels were vintage and had seen there day. Shower curtain liner had mold. I did totally enjoy the hot tub tho. Neighborhood was quiet. I didn’t feel this was what I consider a VRBO standard.

Yes, this is not a new house- that is reflected in our photos on our website. We have removed our personal belongings but leave vintage photos that we like that give our home a warm feeling. There are plenty of extra towels (quite new) in the shelves in the hallway- you could have contacted me if you did not see extras. I'm sorry that the shower curtain was not up to your standards, but there is no mold. However in response to your comment, I will replace it with a new one.

First, I'll touch on the high points. We booked this house for our annual sister trip for the deck, and that did not disappoint! The hot tub was very nice, although the back jets didn't come on and the owner didn't know how they worked as the tub was new. There were nice fresh flowers on the table. We prepared a few meals in the kitchen, which is serviceable. If you plan on having meat, you might want to bring knives (if you're driving). I have to be honest, the house (and neighborhood) looks shabby. It badly needs a deep cleaning and facelift/refresh. It just felt dirty to us, from the doors to the kitchen floor/fridge to the space at the river that we ventured 118 steps down to and never went back. Exterior walls were moldy, wood rotting down by the hot tub, and the neighboring houses looked the same. We aren't super picky, but it bothered us--if you want a pristine and upscale place or have OCD, keep looking. The beds are very firm. I slept on the couch the last night. I'm used to a softer bed and had bad sleep; my sister said hers was fine. I suggest bringing ear plugs (barking dog) and an eyemask, as the house faces east and the rooms have thin curtains. And a bluetooth speaker to cover the neighbors' noise whilst out on the deck. It was nice to hear the waves lapping at the shore and the crickets at night. Get pizza at Mille Luci and burgers at Horsefeathers in Tarrytown! Check out the King Spa in Palisades for a Korean spa experience. Avoid Sparky's Diner.

Location, Location, Location - Spectacular Views - Quiet Setting

My wife and I are in our mid-60's. We live in the middle of a forest in Northwest Wisconsin on a lake on 4 acres surrounded by thousands of acres of pine forest with no neighbors. We wanted to visit our daughter who lives in Brooklyn and works in Manhattan. We have visited the area before, and I had attended school at Yale in New Haven Conn, but had never ventured away from the East Coast Metro Area. We were amazed an excited to find this gem only 45 miles from New York, overlooking the Hudson, and providing us with privacy and a quiet, peaceful setting. Sitting in the hot tub and watching the ships and boats sail up and down the Hudson River was phenomenal! The Appalachian Trail at Bear Mountain only a short beautiful drive away was another unexpected treat, as my family loves hiking and exploring nature away from the intensity of the city life. If you are like us, and apprciate this kind of vacation then don't wait - book now as the leaves are changing and more beauty awaits for those that want this kind of experience. The accomodations were quaint, clean, and cozy with all the amenities that anyone could want. We hope to be back in the very near future to spend more quality time with our family. Relaxing Getaway

The views from this property take your breath away. We really enjoyed sitting out on the back deck and watching the boats go by on the Hudson. It is close enough to New York City that we were able to take a few day trips. The hot tub was great at night under the stars but also nice in the morning as the sun rose. The hot tub is a flight of stairs down from the main deck. There are quite a few stairs to get down to the water area so be prepared to get a work out if you want to dip your toes in the river. The kids enjoyed playing by the water the most. The fire pit is by the water but we did not use it as it was too warm the week we stayed and we also didn't feel like dragging the supplies down. There is also a nature trail for walking or biking right down the street. We were a little surprised that there was an adjoining unit but it was still very private. We rarely saw anyone. I would recommend using open windows and the whole house fan at night instead of the air conditioner. It cooled the house off nicely with breezy fresh air. Our only complaint was the coffee maker was not automatic. We had to boil water and pour it into a filter over a coffee pot which is not convenient for avid coffee drinkers.

We loved having Melissa and her family here- so nice when guests appreciate what our property has to offer. We have French press, an expresso maker and Melitta for making coffee because we love coffee! But we will put out the automatic coffee maker too. The more coffee, the better!

Nice View With Surprises

We will begin with the positive, the vies of the Hudson, from the upstairs bedrooms in particular, are wonderful. There were a few surprises however that we felt we should share with others considering a peaceful getaway. The home on a residential street with houses very close to one another. While the view of the hudson was lovely from the back deck, we did not really enjoy sitting out there due to the noise coming from the surrounding active families who own the homes in very close proximity. The other decks were close enough to hear quiet speaking voices no less boisterous children. There was also a fair amount of debris in the adjoining yards that detracted from the ambiance of the deck view. The other surprise was that we had not rented the entire house. We were told upon arrival that we should leave the outside front door unlocked to allow access to a "caretaker" that lived in the front portion of the house. This became an issue at 1AM both nights we were there when the other tenant came home and played loud music with the bass reverberating throughout the house resulting in waking all of us up. We took awhile to write this review as we have never given a mixed review before, but really love HomeAway and depend heavily on reviews of others.Our disappointment was in that we expected to be the only occupants of the home and we hoped the home was situated in a more tranquil setting. If these surprises wouldn't be a bother, the view of the Hudson from inside the house was in fact outstanding and the beds were clean and very comfortable. We just want people to get the full picture before spending precious vacation time in a place that does not fulfill their needs.

The main attractions of our property which I hope are represented well on our site are the beachfront patio with river access which is right by the water and very private, the hot tub overlooking the Hudson, the beautiful State Park trail at the end of our quiet street and the close proximity to New York City. We are located in a tiny village and we do have neighbors quite close but there is always a place that is quiet and private on the property- it might just take a walk down to the beach to find it. Our caretaker is a very quiet person whom we have never heard at night (and we stay here often) nor has anyone else who has stayed here reported any noise at night.

Hot tub and views

The surrounding area is nothing to write home about, but the hot tub and views of the Hudson were why we booked, and that's exactly what we got. The host was lovely, and the property was very clean when we arrived. There are a lot of stairs, including down to the hot tub, so that's something to be aware of before booking. This location was a good hub for local day trips to Westchester County, Tarrytown, Stony Point Battlefield, Legoland, and Bear Mountain State Park. Harriman State Park is also nearby, as are the Nyacks and the Palisades Mall. The full kitchen had a full size refrigerator and freezer, and I'm really happy there was a dishwasher, as we ended up using lots of mugs sipping tea and looking out over the Hudson.

The River House

The home was well equipped with everything you would need to make your stay comfortable. The deck with the river view was our favorite place to sit enjoying coffee or a glass of wine. Nyack was very close by with shops and restaurants to enjoy.

The proximity to the cultural center of NYC with a State Park trail along the Hudson and a private deck and hot tub with magnificent river views- this is unique and very special. The addition of a ferry service to the Metro North makes country/city living a dream.
