About this property
Escape to the Extraordinary in NM!
This beautiful little abode is set in an old juniper and piñon pine forest. It's really quite magical, and you don't see this type of forest with such tall trees normally. This was home to Native Americans for many years, and you can still feel their spirits. I created this place for you to connect with the land and connect with your heart. Relax and unwind in nature, go out on adventure, or enjoy music and art in Taos. Stay as long as you can!
The space:
This compound is enchanting. The Stick Casita, (casita means "little house"), has one bedroom with a full bed and a twin bed, and then a twin daybed in the living room. There is also a full bathroom and kitchenette in this casita. Nearby is a camper trailer- no bath or kitchen but great for being outside but in a bed. There are also 5 tent sites nearby- be sure to bring your own gear! Good fiberoptic WiFi.
Guest access:
You'll have access to the double loop walking trail, (about 1.5 miles), that's shared with the adjacent property.
Other things to note
Whether or not you want local art, active adventure, indigenous culture, or a relaxing soak, every evening you will find yourself in the peaceful quietude of the surrounding forest and its natural inhabitants. This is an excellent getaway for couples, small families, close friends, or harried individuals in search of peace.

About the host
Hosted by Elizabeth Brownrigg

On Valentine's Day in 1990 I flew to New Mexico for a visit and immediately understood why they call it the "Land of Enchantment." This magical state, with all its art, spirituality, and incredible light, drew me to buy property in Carson, just outside of Taos. I cherish it here because it's so serene and so rural. (I'm originally from the sticks in northeastern PA, but I spent two decades in NYC and San Fran). As an artist/designer, healing arts practitioner and nature lover, my vision has long been to create a sanctuary in this incredible land for like-minded individuals. It is truly an oasis in the high desert for families and groups and a haven for artists and healers.
Why they chose this property
On 30 acres of land we’re deep in the forest yet very close to the Orilla Verde National Monument. The heritage of the ancient Indian culture and the expansiveness of the land and sky create a sense of grounded spirituality. The sound of the wind blowing through the pines and the sweet smell of sage is intoxicating. The nearby mountains provide an incredible backdrop. When I need my urban fix, Taos and Santa Fe are not far.
Love it!
The location is ideal. The three miles of dirt roads are passable year-round and give the feeling that you are “out there”. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in the snow and in the springtime mud. The "town" of Carson consists of about 150 residents, a café/ general store with great food, a post office and a fire department. The remote, peaceful area provides a respite for the most harried of individuals.
For those who want a variety of day trips and activities, Taos and Santa Fe have many unique draws for tourists who love the Southwest: shopping, gallery touring, dining, and the Pueblo, to name a few. The local culture is flavorful. For outdoorsy types, I can attest that the rafting, skiing, and hiking provide plenty of exercise and magnificent views. Soaking at nearby Ojo Caliente Mineral Springs is a great way to end, (or start) any day, and we’re lucky to have it so close by.

What makes this property unique
I moved to New Mexico with the intention to create a retreat center for artists. That vision grew and expanded to include families, groups, and the healing arts. This is just one third of the entire retreat, and because it's spread out, I can divide the retreat into 3 separate properties. It's very quiet and beautiful here in the middle of nature, but not too far from many of the wonderful tourist attractions the Land of Enchantment has to offer. Come visit and connect with the land!
