This place as absolutely amazing. We had a great getaway weekend. It was everything and more. Only downside is the bed could be a little more comfortable, but everything else more than makes up for that.
We enjoyed our week at this cozy cabin. The sounds of the creek were relaxing and there was plenty of space for our kids to run and play. The cabin was well equipped with everything we needed, and the accommodations were comfortable.
We had a lovely time at Creekside Cottage. The stream is beautiful. We hiked in the Yellow River Forest, then enjoyed the hot tub and wood burning stove during the cool evening. The cabin is clean and comfortable and had everything we needed. We would love to come again. Springtime birds were a real treat for this bird lover.
This has to be the most quiet place i have stayed at. The cabin was amazing and the trout stream was therapeutic. Only negative is bed, replace that and its an A+ we will be back .
My partner and I rented this cottage for a weekend away to celebrate our anniversary and we couldn’t be happier with this rental! The wood-burning fireplace made the whole place feel cozy and warm. We spent some quality time cooking together in the kitchen and spent lots time in the hot tub that was perfect for an outdoor activity in the winter months. We highly recommend this stay for a cozy weekend getaway!
What a great place! We had a girls trip in this cute secluded little yet roomy cabin! The hot tub was a definite plus! Everything we needed was there. Hiked the near by state forest and had an exploration day at the Spook cave and Campground. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to relax and enjoy nature with comforts of home!

We were extremely pleased with the Creekside Cottage! Beautiful setting and beautiful cabin! The only thing that I would say could be improved is the communication about check-in. We did not get check-in information, so I messaged the host. It took several days and a repeat message to hear back from her. Eventually, she told us that we would receive the keycode for the cabin in the morning before check-in. We did not get the keycode until 1:30 that afternoon. Still in plenty of time, but it would have been nice to have been told all of this ahead of time.
We loved our stay at the Creekside Cottage! It was perfect for celebrating our anniversary and for getting away from the world for a while.
The cottage itself has everything you need, including kitchen utensils and pots and pans. I appreciated that there were also pantry staples such as salt and pepper, cooking oil, and spices.
I could have done without the little tune the coffee maker plays when it’s turned on and again when the coffee is ready, though (my husband is the coffee drinker, and he gets up earlier than I do). And the area around the cottage needs some clearing up—there are some piles of lumber lying around, and a large groundhog has moved in. It took some time for the property manager to respond to my questions, but she did get back to me eventually.
But overall we loved the quiet, secluded location, and the hot tub was very relaxing after a day of hiking. We would visit again!
We were seeking a quiet cabin getaway for the NYE weekend.
Pros:
Cabin was clean. Kitchen was well-stocked with pots/pans/essentials. Towels and linens smelled fresh. Hot tub was a nice extra. Very secluded area. Furniture, blankets, etc were very cozy. Winter/weather limited our ability to get out and explore nearby trails. Communication with the property manager was prompt and professional.
Cons:
The master bed is atrocious. Saggy, uneven, old and creaky would accurately describe the mattress. The upstairs twin beds were much better. The motion lights outside are very sensitive and went off continuously during the night, the light shone directly into the master. There is quite a bit of excess lumber and scraps around the property.
I'd also recommend getting there during daylight to fully see the property, as it is quite remote and very dark after the sun goes down. There is no yard light. Cell phone reception is also limited.
Beautiful and peaceful! No neighbors and a creek for fishing behind the cottage. We enjoyed the hot tub, fire pit and seeing wild turkeys. State forest close by.
We’ve visited “the Iowa Cabin” many times over the past six years. It’s a cozy, well-equipped property with everything we need for a family getaway. The location is peaceful and we’ve taught our kids to trout fish in the stream on the property. Many great memories here - we’ll be back!
Exactly what we had been hoping for. Beautiful scenery, sound of the creek and wildlife all around us. Late night conversations in the hot tub under the stars. Perfectly peaceful and rejuvenating. Thank you!
Pictures don't do justice. This is a great location. Yellow River State Forest is amazing. Fun dive bar up the road in the small village. Fishing was tough with low water and high winds but looked very promising and will try some of these spots next time.
