I wish I could say being an innkeeper was a life long dream of mine but it wasn't. Like most things in life we tend to fall into situations and we can decide to go with the flow. Well, I went with the flow. I bought the big house to simply fix it up, make it beautiful and then sell it but instead I loved it, kept it. But, Now What!!?? Too big for just me so a Bed and Breakfast it became... 21 years this year 2025.. Ann Arbor has changed drastically since I started the Bed and Breakfast. No longer the "sleepy" little college town. Now, we have LOTS of tall buildings, condos, apartments and dorms. Last count there are something close to 350 restaurants in Ann Arbor!! That is a lot. A few breweries, music venues and festivals keeps the town lively.
Why they chose this property
Both houses needed lots of love and I do enjoy making things nicer and hopefully restoring a house to something close to its former glory....
What makes this property unique
You may ask, "why stay at The Burnt Toast Inn or The Washington House when you could choose to stay at one of the many hotels here in town. I believe one of the purposes of traveling and visiting new places is to really experience a deep ,real meaningful version of the town and its people. Sitting on either of the house's front porches and watching folks go by, walking their dogs, pushing baby carriages all within a heavily treed residential neighborhood is one of the most pleasant ways to learn about a town. Ann Arbor is lucky to be one of those college towns where the school is somewhat incorporated into the town's street structure. It is not a "them and us" kind of college town. It helps make Ann Arbor more vibrant and constantly evolving town. A financial benefit to booking with us is that you will NOT see any additional fees added to your bill. No cleaning fees, no service fees, no hotel tax and those strange amenities fees. None of that! Just the 6% sales tax for the state.,. can't avoid that!
