About this property

Hand-hewn Log Cabin on 7 acres, only 2 mi to heart of Hill City

The cabin no longer has a hot tub as seen in some of the pictures and the virtual tour.

Marshall Gulch Getaway is an authentic hand-hewn log cabin overlooking a serene valley on 7 acres just 2 miles outside of Hill City. A mountain creek flows within view below the cabin. Deer and turkeys are frequent visitors in the yard! The cabin is tastefully decorated with décor fitting the mountain atmosphere. This cozy cabin has a king size log bed in the loft, and a double bed on the main floor bedroom. We allow a max of 4 adults in this rental. If a third sleeping area is needed for a child, you may bring an air mattress and necessary linens. The kitchen is spacious for a family of 4-5.

There is one bathroom with a tub/shower combo and laundry accommodations with washer and dryer. The loft bedroom has a window AC. Board games and playing cards available for rainy or snowy days. There is a 47-inch flat screen satellite TV in the living room, along with a real wood burning fireplace! (And electric heat throughout). We supply a starter supply of firewood, and you can purchase extra at a local grocery store.

The covered front porch is a favorite of guests to sit and watch the wildlife and let the day slip away. Around back is patio with a Gas Log fire-pit that has plenty of outdoor seating to have your morning coffee, outdoor meals, or just sit and watch wildlife. A propane grill is also provided. This cabin sits on a beautiful hillside overlooking the valley below with views of Black Elk Peak. But, the drive to this cabin is a piece of cake and parking is plentiful. Large grassy lawn with plenty of space to roam. This rental is a time-honored favorite for repeat guests.

NO PETS/NO SMOKING. NO TENTS or additional people camping outdoors! No exceptions!

Centrally located in the Black Hills, about 15-20 minutes from Mt. Rushmore, Crazy Horse Monument, Custer State Park, Sheridan, Pactola and Deerfield lakes and the majority of all attractions!

Nature Abounds

The home itself was clean and cozy, and lacked nothing, but the real star is the property itself. The deer and turkeys were daily visitors, and the front porch with its gorgeous view was our favorite place to sip coffee in the morning. ATV/UTV trails were close and the town of Hill City had several good places to eat. The hosts were easy to work with and we hope to stay there again .

Excellent Black Hills Location

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! The cabin was excellent and the property had a great view. Saw deer and turkeys every day and the donkey next door was entertaining. The Black Hills area is wonderful, and Custer State Park is a must see!

This little gem is centrally located in the Black Hills. Jill City is a great little town with everything you would need. The cabin is sweet cozy and very clean. Great place to relax after a day of activity. Highly recommend!

A cozy cabin with modern amenities! Perfect location for enjoying Hill City and the southern Black Hills. Plenty of space to park and easy access to the main roads. Lots of wildlife to view too! We really enjoyed our stay.

We found this unit very well stocked with everything needed for a respite in the Hills. Great location, centrally located to attractions, parks and dining. All appliances and equipment needed was provided and operated. We would definitely consider a return visit.

Great family trip!

The cabin was very clean! Everything was labeled which was so helpful. We were able to find everything we needed without searching. It was a great size for our family of 4. We took in all the activities but the favorite part of the trip for our 6 year olds were UNO on the front porch and the neighbor's burro.

Cabin and the area was just as presented by the owner, super clean, everything you could want was in the cabin, just like staying in your own house!. The only thing i think that could be improved from a safety stand point is a more user friendly hand rail going up into the loft area and handicap bars into and in the shower. Would stay there again if in the area. Thank you for the enjoyable stay.

Our stay at Marshall Gulch Getaway was perfect! The cabin had everything we needed for a comfortable stay and the location and view overlooking the gulch was amazing. We had privacy and the cabin was the right amount of space for my husband and I. We will definitely be staying again!

Love that Place

We have stayed at this Cabin about 15 or 20 times the 25 years. Love the view, location, and convivence. Would highly recommend this cabin. We go with my wife's sister and brother in law. It works great for 4 people. Thank you.

Beautiful peaceful spot

This cabin is in a beautiful location, with a great view of the black hills. It is private and peaceful. We loved sitting out on the front porch drinking coffee every morning. The cabin was clean and comfortable. The location is perfect, a short distance from lots of attractions. And the host was easy to communicate with and very accommodating. Thanks for everything!

We are a hard working couple who love having time to relax and get away in the beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota. Disappearing in the forest for hours on end has become a hobby. Hill City won our hearts when we were looking for a property of our own and we have adopted it as our second hometown. We have had this property since 2012 and have enjoyed sharing its magic with all our guests. It feels miles away from the hustle and bustle and is the perfect place for doing absolutely nothing. But, it is only 2 miles from downtown Hill City and only minutes from all the major Black Hills attractions. We are thrilled to welcome you as our guests!
