The cottage size was great for our needs. Well equipped kitchen. Everything was clean with lots of nice little touches like beach towels and brochures for local points of interest. Really close to Cabot Park which is perfect beach experience.
The house was nice and comfortable and fully stocked with everything necessary. The views from the upstairs “turret” were wonderful. You can enjoy the sunrise and sunset from the same chair. Very convenient location for Thunder Cove and Cabot and an easy drive to Cavanaugh, Summerside, etc. Definitely recommended.

Thanks for the kind review Thomas. It was a pleasure having you guys. Join us again anytime!
If you are looking for the perfect beach house, this house has it all. We had a full house of family ranging from 7 to 75 and we all felt at home. The owners had excellent real time communication and was very helpful. The pictures don't do justice. It's a high ceiling, large kitchen and a separate bedrooms. The upstairs lookout was the kids favorite. The beach was everything the kids wanted. They played on it every day :) 100% recommend and would love to return. The town is quaint and serene. If you are looking for a place for 2 people or 7 people this has it all.
He spent a second family vacation at this amazing cottage in PEI. Quite, peacefully and magnificent location; you cannot ask for a better place. At the cottage you can spot both, the sunrise and the sunset.
We will like to say thanks to Shelly and Joe for sharing this piece of Paradise with us. We will come back here for sure.
Thank you!

One of the best vacation ever
Dear Shelly and Joe,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of my family and myself. We truly enjoyed spending a week at your cottage. The house, the beautiful view and the quiet of the area was only surpassed by the amazing sunsets we were able to see directly from the deck or from the lobby at the second floor.
The no wifi connection gave my family a reason to spend more time playing board games or outdoor games. I don't remember last time when we talk so much each other. Please do not change this in the future. Let the people enjoy the nature and connect together.
Shelly and Joe, we will definitely come back to your cottage one day and we will recommend it to our friends.
Thanks again!
Silviu and his family :)

The house is a spacious, with sliding glass doors to the deck. Close to the water on a large open lot. Well equipped kitchen. Quick bike ride or very short drive to Cabot Beach Provincial Park, with a long, sandy beach. We watched the full Harvest Moon rise over the water from ‘the crow’s nest’, a second story sitting room with windows on four sides. Ten minute drive to Kensington for all the supplies you will need. Great place!
This was a central point for all of our exploring for a week. Understand that it takes an hour to drive almost anywhere on the island so we chose this spot for its location (somewhat central with a beach and private) and access to many different places. Close to Kensington for groceries, gas, liquor and an amazing bakery. 5min around the corner is the best fresh seafood retail store. Everything you need for a feast.
The house is equipped with everything you need and there were ice cubes ready in the freezer for us! The multitude of windows and sliders allowed the beautiful breezes to blow through to cool off the house (in addition to very welcome fans). The upstairs turret was a perfect spot for us to enjoy the sunset, sit in the breeze and enjoy a nightcap. The wrap around deck allowed for sun or shade, wind or no wind, all comfortable reading spots.
We packed a bin full of staples for our meals but we were grateful to find filters for the coffee maker, paper towels and tin foil (all of which we forgot).
We were witness to a hatching and swarming of midge flies while we were there giving the shore birds a huge feast! At night there are tons of little stabby mosquitoes. They'll get you if outside but if they find their way into the house they usually try to get out. Not like the mozzies we're used to in Ontario that hound you all night.
The beach is fun! You can walk for quite a while at low tide up or down the shore. There were lots of shore birds to watch. We had a bald eagle fly through, a blue heron visit us on the deck (several liked picking on the shore), and a Northern harrier that stayed around for several days hunting and playing in the wind.
No wifi? No problem. Who needs it on vacation? We had an exceptional time and we were grateful for the comfortable and private space.

This property was amazing. We were married on the island while staying here the this home provided comfort for all of us as we became a blended family.
The only thing I would change is to have wifi as our teenagers missed that a lot!
Overall, wonderful place to stay with amazing views and perfect seating outdoors
Loved the location and the spaciousness of the cottage. Spent many hours beach combing during low tide and enjoying sunsets and sunrises. Saw many herons and bald eagles.
We had a great stay at this Malepque residence. It was very clean and spacious for the seven of us (4 adults and three young children). Nice sandy beachfront at the property. Cabot Park was only a few kilometers away and was a terrific beach/park area for us to enjoy. We all agreed it was a grreat visit in PEI.
The house was nice, clean, and comfortable for our family. The kids enjoyed playing at the little red sand beach and with all the board games.

Great place for a family reunion
We really enjoyed our week at Ocean Edge this August. Spacious and private with high ceilings, decks and views, this cottage looks out on Darnley Basin part of Malpeque Bay. Our family from near Ottawa and Saskatoon were there for a reunion with relatives from England, Calgary and Cape Breton staying in three other VRBO cottages near by. Our house was well equipped and organized with a large kitchen - great for family dinners. Our older son got to sleep up in the loft. We recommend the outdoor shower.
We explored the area and found the best beach of all, Thunder Cove with dunes and sandstone formations. Some of us went to the Anne of Green Gables Musical in Charlottetown, some to the Haunted Mansion and some went deep sea fishing. We did beach walks and enjoyed the New Glasgow Lobster supper (get reservations). Lots to do, but leave time for just enjoying the peace at Ocean Edge.

We'll be back
If you are looking for some well deserved downtime and an opportunity to enjoy all PEI has to offer, this home is a great choice. It was very clean and provided everything we needed for our family to stay comfortably. The three bedrooms were spacious, the kitchen was well equipped, the bathrooms and showers were great and the outside was amazing. The beach was right there out the sliding glass doors and we all enjoyed sitting on the large decks watching the sunsets and herons who live along the neighbouring inlet. We dealt directly with Joe, the owner, who was very helpful arranging our last minute reservation. We will certainly return.

Wonderful Home with Amazing Views!!!
My husband and I stayed at your incredible Beach House; It is just as pictured. The surrounding landscape and water views are stunning!!! Beautiful pink skies at sunset. The house is equipped with everything that you need. The washer and dryer is a nice bonus. We loved the Knotty Pine. This setting is truly peaceful and quiet.
My husband and I slept like babies.
We loved the loft upstairs where we enjoyed reading, napping and listening to the wind and looking out at the awesome view of the surrounding bay. We saw different kinds of birds and rabbits and even a fox! Such beautiful scenery all around PEI! Lot's to do;
kayaking, snorkeling, beautiful beaches, biking, water parks, music and great food! Shelly & Joe are very personable and professional people. Renting was a very smooth transaction. I really did a lot of searching on line and you won't find a better place to stay than Ocean Edge Beach House on PEI. You will absolutely love it!!!

A Great Place to Relax and Get Away From it All!
We stayed here for a week and from the moment we walked in we were amazed. It had all the amenities and the views were outstanding. We watched the fishing boats come in and out of the harbour. We toured the area and went to a few of the local beaches which were just amazing. If you're a seafood lover you'll love the Island. We had 3 lobster suppers. Suggest Brothers 2 in Summerside & New Glasgow Lobster Supper restaurant. The other in Cavendish I cant remember but it was also good. Our best meal was at the Malpeque Oyster Barn for lunch. The Scallops & Oysters Rockefeller were melt in your mouth amazing! The home is very private on a large lot on the Malpeque Basin and you can sit and watch the fisherman coming in to get their daily catch. Would definitely recommend staying here as a family or a romantic holiday.

This location will leave you breathless, cottage is beautifully situated one step away from heaven
This cottage was absolutely breathtaking with its location and design. We enjoyed our stay very much. We had a beautiful little catered wedding in front of it, the weather was beautiful and everything was perfect.
The children liked the option of choosing the beds to sleep in. Sunrises and sunsets were breathtaking and are all on my camera. This cottage is very nicely equipped with cooking pots, pans, lots of plastic and ceramic dishes. Plastic stuff comes in very handy with kids around.
Washrooms are great with washer and dryer right there to get the beach stuff washed.
To answer the questions on this website about it:
Description of cottage was very accurate, regarding the location. The photos of the property reflected exactly what was there. The cottage and surroundings were clean and well maintained.
The owners were accommodating and personable. We would recommend this place to the family and friend, as a matter of fact we have already done so. We loved the Thunder Cove beach nearby, the antique shops, the Trail Rides with the kids in Brackley Beach, Burlington Amusement park, and many other natural spots. One of the greatest things we appreciated was the privacy and tranquility of the place. Early mornings were my husbands and my personal favorites.

Our favorite vacation spot
We stayed here a couple years ago with our five kids and my sister-in-law's family of four. We all fit comfortably, and loved our week on PEI, which has a historical family connection for us. We can't wait to come back this year!
About the host
Hosted by Joe Mantegna
My wife Shelly and I bought our dream house in PEI in 2005. We enjoy making memories in PEI with our three children and would like to share our beach house with you.
Why they chose this property
After spending our honeymoon in the Maritimes and a golf get-away in PEI, my wife and I had to own our dream home in a place where the only thing nicer than the ocean scenery was the people. We have never regretted making PEI our home away from home, as it has all the simple pleasures that we look for in a family escape.
What makes this property unique
An ideal day at Ocean Edge would be breakfast on the deck with the sun glistening off the water, while watching the lobster boats come and go. Followed by a walk on our sandy beach, a ride in the sea kayak, a round of golf, a long bike ride or a snuggle with a good book. Later, a seafood dinner and home in time to watch the sunset over the water from our second floor 'lookout' with the sound of the waves in the background.
