Beautiful cottage and delicious blueberries

We enjoyed this beautiful and well-appointed cottage while visiting Franklin. Our pups loved the spacious yard, and we enjoyed picking fresh blueberries. Lots of nice outside spaces — front porch, breezeway, and back patio. The hosts were warm and helpful.

Superb location, extra privacy

This property is clean, well stocked, quiet and private. The 2 separate homes are separated by a nice breezeway. I felt at home and loved the design. It was close to downtown Franklin and was a good central location but had a country feel. The host was thorough and had the place well stocked. The privacy that the homes afford is great as well. Would definitely stay again.

Great getaway

We had a wonderful time at this property. The split bedrooms worked out great for our family. Nice location and really enjoyed the area. The host was fast to respond and gave us good restaurant and gem mining options. Check out nearby Waynesville if you get a chance.

Wonderful

Beautiful property, excellent amenities, easy access, comfortable beds and close to everything we wanted to do. We’ve been visiting this area for over 10 years and have rented various cabins/homes. This was by far one of our best choices! Definitely plan on rebooking this place.

Perfect Cottage for Couple + Pet (and more)

This was the perfect place to stay for the wife and myself -- plus our elder family dog (the ground was level enough for him to be stable around the vast open backyard) -- for an elongated weekend visit to celebrate our daughter graduation from WCU. The common areas were bigger than the pictures led me to believe and it was perfect for evening gatherings and barbecue. Easy to get to; Just be aware it's the usual well-water and septic for the area... so bring your own drinking water if you don't like that. Oh, and watch out for the main bathroom sink that likes to splash a bit on full! ;-) You'll love this charming cottage and site.

Perfect for us!

Just as advertised. This home was perfect for us. Super close to good grocery store, gas, downtown Franklin, and even Walmart. Easy to find. Close to the tight twisty mountain roads that we went there to ride our motorcycles on. Susan (Mary) and Walt were excellent hosts. Even though our plans were impacted by Hurricane Helene, we still had a good time. We NEVER lost power! That in itself is a miracle!! The entire area was impacted with no cell service, internet, cable. Thankfully they had plenty of games in the home for us to entertain ourselves. If the home is available when we travel to the area in the future, we'd definitely stay again :)

3/4 of a dog

The cottage is lovely, with everything you need for a short stay. The split plan, with one bedroom and bath separate from the main cottage was perfect for our adult daughter and her 2 small dogs. The large lot with stream through the backyard is peaceful.

Mountain views and creek to boot

The house is a lot larger than we thought. It has an awesome sitting area in the breezeway and a nice patio with a propane grill. We also had a few wildlife visitors due to the apple tree on the property and the creek. We had about 7 deer and a couple of groundhogs. Over all this place is well worth more than just a five day stay like we had. The hosts were awesome and even came to greet us which I am glad we got to meet them. I would totally recommend this place you must visit.

Lovely cozy cabin in a perfect location

Very cute, "not so tiny house". Two couples had plenty of room and privacy with one bed and bath across the breezeway. Great location for our needs, close to everything and on a paved road. Looking forward to returning.

About the host

Hosted by Mary Susan Stowell

Host profile image
Mary is a retired Floridian who fell in love with the mountains of Western North Carolina. Mary was a founder of one of the top Dog Bakeries in America, Smoky Mountain Dog Bakery in Waynesville, NC, and is a huge dog lover. She bought this charming valley property with 360-degree mountain views after being snowed in for days in a mountain-top home. That can be a problem with the higher elevation homes. The property is 3 acres, bordered by a creek along the back. We have since remodeled the 1940 farmhouse, built a new guest cottage and a barndominium for ourselves. Room for our dog and a big chicken coop for a dozen chickens...No Rooster to wake anyone up though!

Why they chose this property

3 acres of flat creekside with mountain views in every direction, just minutes from downtown Franklin and short drives to so many fun places. Paved roads allow access all year long without 4-wheel drive and never a snow-in.
