Pineplace Lights is a uniquely designed elegant architectural lighthouse designed by architect Mark Ruhle. It was his vision that each space is unique. Therefore you will find each room a comfortable delight eliciting different senses and feelings.
Pineplace Lights is nestled in the deep pine woods of Orrs Island Maine overlooking historic Lowell's Cove. Come experience the essence of Maine which inspired artists such as Andrew Wyeth and Winslow Homer as well as the children's book 'The Whale in Lowell's Cove.' Walk to the nearby beach to lounge in the sun and to enjoy the salty air. Afterward, enjoy a fun evening of dining and relaxing at various local restaurants or just stay in and cook your own meal in our carefully equipped kitchen. At night you will sleep deeply and soundly in our comfortable beds, the sounds of the cove a lullaby.
You can share many happy hours with your family and friends while sitting on our wide deck which catches the sun of the day and the breeze off Lowell's Cove. Almost every room in the house has a spectacular Cove view. There are 6 bedrooms and seven decks. There is a large backyard that includes an acre of Pine Forest. There is a small secluded studio in the woods. Kids can use it for a hangout. Adults can paint, write, read, or just meditate.
Choose to spend your vacation at Pineplace Lights and you will never regret a moment. It is an experience that will give you memories that will last a lifetime.

Beautiful home with wonderful harbour views, light and airy rooms, comfortable living areas and bedrooms, and all amenities provided - all in a great Orrs Island location!
We loved staying at the Architectural Lighthouse! Very clean, with just about everything we needed in hand, and such a beautiful view of the cove. This was our second time renting and we will no doubt do so again!
The house was perfect for our graduation weekend large family group of 11. Wencooked dinner both nights and the house was perfect for our family with three generations.
We loved this beautiful, comfortable, well-stocked house at the end of a quintessential Maine cove. Great home base for exploring the area and all that coastal Maine has to offer. Hope to return in the future.
Lowell’s cove is wonderful. We had perfect weather with swimming, lobster, and fun each day. We love Sundrenched, BIGS, and Gurnett for food. Lands End has trinkets and souvenirs. The house is well supplied with pots and spices etc and the beds were all very comfortable! We had a cool sea breeze at night, fans, and extra blankets in each closet. Check in and out process was super easy and management responded very fast to all our pre check in questions. Overall excellent!!
The house is very unique. Loved the quaintness of it and the setting was very peaceful. Plenty of room for the 6 of us and had all the amenities that we needed. It’s remote but well within 30 min of amazing restaurants and hiking trails and shopping.
This is our second year vacationing at this property. Very spacious home and yard that also allowed our dog to stay with us. It was perfect for our annual family get together in Maine. There was so much to do in the area and all the space we needed to relax and play games at the house.
We had a great week's vacation. The house is beautiful with room for 11 of us. The view from the property of Lowells Cove is spectacular. There are several places for short walks with beautiful views. There are a few restaurants with excellent food. There is a great shop with all kinds of candy and ice cream.
We stayed there 17 years ago and were thrilled that the house was still available. Owned and managed by the same people!!! The location is great. The view is fantastic. Only thing would be to prune the shrubs a bit in front for a better view from the first floor front deck!
This was a multi-generational trip and the property had plenty of space for everyone to spread out and relax! It is decorated with interesting local art and you see Maine in the small touches. I loved that there was plenty of information available for local businesses. The kitchen offered all you need to feed a big group. It is one of my all time favorite VRBO visits and we hope to return soon.
Clean, exactly as advertised and incredible views of the water we were a large group including 2 babies and the place was great. Plenty of room and amazingly well stocked. Stacey responded to any questions so quickly and fave great recommendations. We really had a lovely time.
We enjoyed the daily breezes, and the comfort of this house in a very beautiful area of Maine. There are small beaches nearby and Popham Beach is one of our favorite beaches, about a 50 min drive. We loved Cook’s Lobster House, 5 min drive, and ate at Little Saigon and The Maine Bistro, both in Brunswick and both were excellent. The owners/managers were responsive to any issues and needs. We would stay here again.
My whole family stayed in this rental and had a wonderful time. The view is amazing and there was plenty of space for us to all be together or separate when we wanted. My only complaint would be that the tall grass in front of the driveway blocks part of the view from the lower level. Beside that it was perfect for what we wanted.
The house was very spacious with 2 living areas and a large eat in kitchen and multiple decks. The two room master and bedroom on the 3rd floor have sweeping views of Lowell’s Cove. The kitchen was extremely well stocked. The house is about 20 minutes from
Bowdoin/Brunswick. We would definitely stay hear again.
We traveled to Maine for the first time. GPS brought us right to the front door. Four rocking chairs on the front porch, and great views from the numerous windows. Two sitting areas. Kitchen was well stocked. Many restaurants and a great candy store within minutes. Great communication with the host. Eclectic, homey decor.
This was the second time we rented the Architectural Lighthouse for thanksgiving weekend and it was wonderful. There were 9 of us (three generations of family, all adults). Plenty of room for us with two living rooms and on one sunny day we spent time on one of the many decks overlooking the cove. Great family time in an absolutely lovely, picturesque setting. we enjoyed taking walks on Orr's Island and went to one of the microbreweries in Brunswick one evening. Looking forward to returning!
This is our 2nd time renting this home for our friends to have a “ lobster run”. Most of us came from PA but we also had a couple come from SC.
The house is beautiful and very welcoming with plenty of room. It is located right at the end of a cove and you can literally watch the tide come and go. There is something like 10- 12 feet difference between high and low tides.
Highly recommend this property.
We couldn’t have asked for a better week! The house is absolutely stunning, with an exceptional water view. The modern, well-equipped kitchen allowed us to prepare several delicious home-cooked meals. There are bedrooms on all three floors—our son loved the tower room, while my husband and I enjoyed the two-room suite on the second floor, both with fantastic water views. The neighborhood is peaceful and ideal for a relaxing stroll by the water. This place definitely deserves 5+ stars!
We rented for a 60th anniversary. Amble room for the entire family! Great kitchen, fully stocked even with lobster pots to have lobster bake. We were able to cook full meals with everything we would need! The view was amazing…over looking a cove! 3 bathrooms, no one was ever waiting. Owner was very accommodating with times and ready to answer any text. Highly recommend!!
The house is gorgeous, in a beautiful location. We came with family members and had more than enough space to spread out (7 people). Directly across the small road is a little cove that lovely to look at. The kids also got in the water. It's not a "beach" but they'll take any place you can get in. As others have mentioned, the wifi doesn't remain strong through the whole house, and our phone connection was pretty weak. But we were happy to be less connected during our stay.

Why they chose this property
Our family came to Orrs Island for the first time in 1980 to visit friends. We fell in love and have returned over and over again. Eventually we needed our own space. Mark Rhule architect helped up design a house that would support family and personal development retreats.
What makes this property unique
What I love most about Orrs Island is the deep rest and rejuvenation I experience when I am here.
