What makes this property unique
Camp Pioneer Historic Site
Pioneer Campgrounds is part of the original land lease obtained by the Caddo Area Council, B.S.A., from the Texarkana Railroad YMCA in 1919. The land was named “Camp Pioneer” and operated as a Boy Scout Camp until 2020. Twomile Creek was the main attraction of Camp Pioneer and was first used in 1916 by Troop 1 from Texarkana for swimming, boating, and fishing prior to the land lease of 1919.
This campsite is known as “Whippoorwill Hill” because of its vast views and abundant bird population. The neighboring land just to the west is known as “Tall Pines” because of its primitive state and 100-year-old Loblolly Pine trees.
From 1960 to 2020, these two campsites served as the living quarters for scouts, leaders, and Camp Pioneer Staff members during summer camp.
In the summer of 2021, Pioneer Campgrounds was established to continue the legacy of Camp Pioneer to serve as a campground for scouts, leaders, and private groups from all over North America.
