What a beautiful classic victorian with modern amenities galore! Perfect location for sauntering to the best restaurants, shopping, and, of course, the theaters. Would definitely stay at any of the SwankHouse options again.

We had a wonderful stay. Great accommodations and location. We parked our car on arrival and didn't drive it until we left. Everything was in easy walking distance. We'll be back.

What a lovely rental! Everything about the property itself fit the needs of 4 enthusiastic older women eager to enjoy the arts and culture of Ashland. We found the kitchen easy to work in (with some instruction on using the unique coffee maker), the beds extremely comfortable and the home extremely clean. The ability to spend time in the yard was an added bonus. We walked everywhere. What a delight!

Comfortable, well-appointed retreat in an unbeatable location. The house is full of character and decorated with a delightful sense of whimsey. It is located within easy walking distance of Main Street shops and restaurants, OSF, and Lithia Park. The two bedrooms are on the upper floor accessible only via stairs. The rooms are physically very separate and there is no noise audible between them, making for an ideal retreat for two couples for a theater weekend or longer stay. Daily visits from a family of deer were an extra special treat! We definitely plan to return.

Charm out the wazoo at this home. The location is outstanding: a short walk to the bakeries and restaurants and amusements of downtown Ashland from here. My bed (the non-four-poster one) was one the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in. The hosts are responsive and helpful, too. We had such a lovely time.

Best Stay Yet in Ashland!

I've been visiting Ashland for 15 years, and The Matriarch (also known as the Swank House) is by far the best location I've ever stayed in. It's beautifully classy, incredibly comfortable, and perfectly situated—just a short walk to everything I love: the Cabaret, Lithia Park, restaurants, and shopping. I especially appreciated being able to drop off purchases or refrigerate leftovers in between outings—so convenient! The communication was seamless: clear, accommodating, and never intrusive. The kitchen was well-stocked, the beds were luxuriously comfy, and the entire space felt thoughtfully curated. Honestly, I hesitate to post this review because I’d love to keep this gem all to myself! It was the perfect Mother’s Day gift to ourselves—shared between me, my sister, and two daughters. A truly special stay we’ll always remember.
