About this property

Beautiful timber frame home with spectacular mountain views. Secluded, fabulous.

This luxury peg, post and beam timber-frame cabin sits on top of a ridge on 43 unspoiled acres. Note: the driveway is steep and front wheel drive is recommended.
Quiet, secluded with spectacular mountain views all around. Explore the walking trails on the property that lead to the Top-O-The-Ridge where you can see the North Carolina side of the Blue Ridge off in the distance. Follow the less strenuous get-away trail which will lead you to an intimate view of the peaceful valley below while relaxing in an Adirondack chair or on the A-frame swing. Maybe just head down the ridge to Helton Creek, which borders the property, and enjoy the sounds of the bold stream or try your hand at fly fishing for some of the native or stocked trout. Or...just sit on the porch and enjoy the vistas. You may never want to leave!
This beautiful home has 3 porches, each with spectacular views. Enjoy dinner or a warm fire outside on the back deck. Build a roaring bon-fire in the camp fire pit overlooking Grayson Highlands State Park. At night the stars are magnificent! Inside, sit on the large hearth of the nearly 30 foot stone fireplace and soak in the warmth and sounds of another crackling fire.
Indulge in the many activities close by. Lily Ridge is just 10 min. from the Virginia Creeper Trail and only 3 miles from Grayson Highlands State Park. Local attractions/activities include hiking, fishing, biking, horseback riding, music, and festivals throughout the year.
West Jefferson, NC is 25 min away where there are a variety of restaurants from BBQ to fine dining. Enjoy local art work, shops and antiquing. Nearby, enjoy the ambiance, a glass of wine and fine dining offered by the River House located on the North Fork of the New River. There are several golf courses located in West Jefferson and the New River is a beautiful place to canoe, tube or kayak.
In the other direction over the peak of Whitetop Mountain, is Abingdon, Virginia, a vibrant and quaint destination and home to the historic Barter Theater. Abingdon is a short 45 minute drive along the famed Crooked Road Music Trail. Explore the town, try the original Tavern which has been in continuous operation since the 1700's and visit the Abingdon Winery on the way there or on the way back to Lily Ridge.
Boone, NC is an hour from Whitetop as well as the quaint community of Blowing Rock. Shop, ski, rock climb or zip line. The choices in and around Lily Ridge Cabin are limitless.
We manage the property personally to make sure your stay is an enjoyable and memorable experience! We hope you will consider staying with us soon!

The cabin and surrounding area are amazing! Spent most of my time on the porch looking at the views. The cabin itself is a 10 out of 10… didnt want to leave. Plenty of hiking around, great trails in Grayson especially.

Great stay. Gave a 4 for cleaning only to finding some bugs but in a cabin it seems to be expected so in no means did it bother our stay.

Epic family holiday getaway

This beautiful place was the perfect venue to bring our family together for Thanksgiving. It was exactly as described, had plenty of needed amenities and the layout gave each of us a separate space of our own. Important things when cooped up due to weather. Would definitely recommend! Owner was responsive and kind. The fireplace was fantastic and we enjoyed many games at the table. The sunrises were stunning! I could go on, but ai think you get the picture.

Mountain Paradise

The house and location are spectacular. Easy access to Grayson Highlands and a nice and relatively easy trip to Lansing and West Jefferson, which should be your go to places for food/etc. Rt 58 truly earns it's Crooked Road name, and should be avoided if you need to get somewhere quickly or have car sick prone passengers. Laurel Valley Rd is a good alternative and can be reached via Whitetop Rd. We have been to this area a lot, and we will be coming back to Lily Ridge again!

Thanksgiving Stay

We visit the NC mountains several times a year. This house is beautiful! The most gorgeous 360 views of the Blueridge Mountains. There are several short hikes to areas on the property to enjoy. The owners have thought of everything. We will certainly plan another stay at Lily Ridge in the near future.

Great house in a spectacular location

Our family of five (and four-legged friends) spent a week here and loved it. My spouse is from the area, and we come every summer and stay at different cabins each time. This one was spacious, comfortable, had all the amenities we could ask for, and was perfectly located to the areas we spend a lot of time in (Grayson Highlands, VA Creeper, West Jefferson). Definitely recommend to families looking for a quiet getaway!

Fantastic cabin with short drive to Grayson Highlands State Park

Group of 9 runners/friends stayed for 3nights. Cabin is beautiful with everything provided you could possibly need. Great layout for family or group including the lower level. . Very clean. Walked the trails from the property and sat outside on the deck each night with the chiminea fire lit. Fabulous views from the cabin. Slightly tricky steep switchback driveway first time you drive up. Would definitely return and recommend.

Wish we’d had a week to stay!

We rented Lily’s Den cabin for two nights and hiked in Grayson Highlands State Park (one of our favorite places in the world!). The cabin was truly secluded and the views were just shy of 360 degrees. Being outdoorsy, we spent a lot of time on the deck and at a little side overlook with a swing and horseshoe pits. If traveling with a dog, as we did, note that you’ll need to bring a couple of gates to close in the deck area. We just kept our dog on a 20 ft leash and it was fine. The driveway is steep—we the recommend 4WD. But the long drive is well maintained and the views at the top are spectacular. We recommend Lily’s Den wholeheartedly!

Beautiful cabin with amazing views

Beautiful and clean cabin with everything you need! Loved the property with amazing views all around! A couple of trails on the property with a swing and chairs to sit and enjoy the views! Enjoyed the firepit in the evening and playing board games with the grandkids. There was plenty of space to spread out! Did not have cell service but the internet worked great! Close to Grayson Highlands and Virginia Creeper bike trail! This home has everything you need for cooking , bedding was comfortable, plenty of towels etc The owners were great with communicating and even checked in on us with a phone call on arrival to make sure everything was good! Thank you Sheila and Todd for sharing your beautiful property with us! Hope to visit again in the future!

Basement Smell & Rat Poison

I understand why others gave high reviews, because it is decorated very nicely and the porches are lovely. However, there are two things that seriously detracted from our stay that others should know. First, there is an overpowering smell in the basement that made the space unusable except for my 10-year-old and quick runs down to the bathroom (with the only shower). I'm not sure what the smell is - we guessed a combination of animal or a basement/mildew smell. This meant that my husband, me, and my other child slept in the loft. This is also nicely decorated, but it is open to the rest of the house, with big windows from the living room that let in the sunrise, and of course the bathrooms are at least one floor away. So don't count on sleeping past 6am up there. The second, and bigger, problem we had was that within 30 minutes of arrival, our dog found a rat trap in the yard, opened it up (despite supposedly being 'kid and pet proof') and ate rat poison. We were supervising her so saw it happen as we ran to stop her. This was a terrifying day - it required us to drive an hour to Boone, stay overnight in a hotel while our dog had a 24-hour stay in the emergency clinic, at a cost of $1600, and required us to leave the house a few days early to get back to our vet (owner did not offer to reimburse anything, and I was too emotionally distressed to push it). Our dog is still taking the 30-day treatment required for the kind of poison she ate (luckily it was the poison that, though deadly, has an antidote). There were mouse/rat traps all over the property, indoors and outdoors, and we were never alerted in advance that this was the case. The Orkin tech - who showed far more concern and responsiveness - was surprised that we were not told about this. This despite the fact that I called the owner in advance of renting to ask whether our dog could safely be off leash. I would be worried for any pets on this property - but also for smaller children. Perhaps most disappointing was that the owners seemed mostly concerned about not being held responsible. At first, they told us our dog would be 'fine' (as we were sitting at the clinic, with the vet very worried). Then we were told no other pets had a problem - as if it was our dog's fault. Then we were told it's just life in the country (they have mouse problems). None of that excuses 1) not telling renters about poison on the property and 2) not offering to do the right thing and help pay.

Incredible mountain home

Everything about this cabin and the grounds around it is near perfect. You won't be disappointed staying here. Only note, is that AWD or 4WD is probably recommended for getting up the driveway. RWD vehicles will suffer the most trying to get up the steep driveway especially if the weather hasnt been ideal.

About the host

Hosted by Sheila Lange

Host profile image
Todd and Sheila Lange have been married for over 30 years, reside in Statesville, North Carolina and have three children, a 31 year old girl, a 29 year old boy and a 22 year old boy. We have enjoyed many happy moments in and around Lily Ridge Cabin and love sharing it with friends, family and guests. Was always a dream of ours to build a home in the mountains and we were fortunate enough to be able to do so. The home and property is near where Sheila's father was born and the Cole Cemetery below the property is named after her family. Lots of history for her and now the rest of us in the area.

Why they chose this property

See above. It is most of all connected to us and extended family and offers a complete and unspoiled retreat from the world. The views are spectacular and at night there is absolutely no light pollution so the stars are limitless. The other things is the connection to the roots of Country Music and Blue Grass legends. Even if you don't think you like Blue Grass Music, try some contemporary takes from Allison Kraus, Sierra Hull, Dan Tyminski or old acoustic classics from John Prine, Jackson Browne while enjoying the fire overlooking the mountains. Turn the overhead lights off and use the floor or table lighting to make your stay warm and cozy. Get a feel for Appalachia through the proximity of Lily Ridge Cabin to the roots of County Music.
