A Splendid Stay!

We truly enjoyed all the moments of our stay in Lansing. The property was beautiful, quiet, relaxing, perfect for a getaway for a couple. The place was clean, the binder provided was thorough, and of course the outside space was idyllic.

Wonderful

The house was easy to find, the hosts were great to deal with, it was beyond clean. The hot tub was amazing on the cold nights. The bed was comfy and everything was well labeled and organized. Only complaint was we couldn't stay longer bc of our work schedule!

Cozy Stay at Bear Cabin

We absolutely loved our stay here. We were looking for a remote cabin to stay while we hiked around Mount Rogers, and this was exactly what we were looking for. The cabin is incredibly well-stocked with cooking supplies and necessities and the decor is so cute. The hot tub and gas grill are an added plus. I would love to come back here again for a county get-away.

The house we were supposed to stay at had an emergency problem. The owner of the house quickly notified us and put us in a very similar home. It was a nice stay.

Amazing cozy property!!

This stay was absolutely amazing. A beautifully appointed rustic cabin with every modern convenience. A very family friendly property with gates to keep children and pets safe and out of the road. Convenient to both Lansing and West Jefferson. Check in was easy and seamless. We rested well- even the sheets were fabulous! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! Thank you!!

“Beary” Nice Cabin

This creek side retreat was the setting for our get away weekend! The perfectly decorated and appointed cabin was just as described in the listing. Fully equipped, clean and welcoming! We enjoyed the sound of the creek, evenings by the fire pit and relaxing in the hot tub! Headed into West Jefferson for shops and lunch and a visit to Old Barn Winery. Highly recommend and hope to return!

Even better in person ❤️

The place was absolutely perfect!! I felt safe and at home. SUPER CLEAN!! Even bigger than it looks on the pictures. I loved that all the kitchen cabinets are labeled. The surrounding area is stunning and the country winding roads make you feel like you’re completely off grid…but you still have signal ❤️ For sure I will return over and over!!❤️ The couch is a hideaway bed as well, which was a treat!!

Nice apartment in a local spanish area

The best apartment we have had in Spain. The apartment was well maintained. Private parking in -1 was included. Mercedona (supermarked) was only 200m away. The partly covered terrasse was wonderfull. The manager Mr. Jorge, met us to introduce the apartment. Sure , we will come back later. Anette And Jorgen, Denmark

Escape from the busy life

A perfectly cozy cabin in the mountains of NC. I was very pleased with the amenities provided, the hot tub was large and relaxing, the beds were quite comfortable, the kitchen was fully stocked, the grill was perfect for cooking all types of meals, the location was close enough to towns, but far enough away for peace and tranquillity. Fishing, kayaking, tubing, hiking, waterfalls, epic mountain views, all within a reasonable distance. The cool babble of a creek running thru the beautifully landscaped property with a fire pit well equipped with the most comfortable seating arrangement. Everything about this cabin will surely please any renter who desires a get away from the busy bustle of everyday life.

Notes regarding maintenance

The cabin is lovely, the creek and yard serene. However to help prepare next time, the decks were covered in leaves, the porch over hot tub covered in leaves and dirty. Dirty sponge in kitchen with no clean one, dirty fry pan in cabinet. After hooking up the extra tank to grill ourselves, the grill never got hot enough to cook, both porches had burnt out bulbs. Did not see note to bring our iwn laundry detergent.since I believe the outside couldve been much better maintained. I swept all porches, left all clean clithes and dishes except bed linens. Grill needs to be fixed. All applianxes and lights etc should be checked prior to arrival. Overall a lovely place just needs better precheck and maintenance

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The house was comfortable and area was friendly. Everything anyone could need was available for use. We did not need the fireplace but looked like it would be nice as well. We have a large pickup so the parking was a little tight, but we managed well. The only thing we would suggest would be a little more handicap assibility. Maybe a hand rail by commode in bathroom and in shower. Maybe a bar by the main steps outside coming into the house. I have bad knees and can't climb real good, but I managed really well getting up on the porch. But overall I would recommend this rental highly!! Overall it was really nice. I would return there again!!

Great cabin. Decorated nicely. Everything you need to stay. The creek was great and the multiple outdoor seating options were good. The area isn’t super busy with closest restaurant 15-20 mins. A few larger town 30ish minutes away. Great location to wind down!

About the host

Hosted by Hal and Margie Kluttz

Host profile image
Bear Wallow Creekside Retreat is owned and operated by Hal and Margie Kluttz from Lincolnton, NC. Hal is a retired Police Detective Lieutenant and Margie is the retired President of Harper Corporation of America, a manufacturing business that reconditions printing cylinders. Hal's mother was born and raised in the NC Mountains and Hal has been coming to Ashe County all his life.

Why they chose this property

Hal and Margie have been spending time in Ashe County since they were married over (30) years ago. They fell in love with the cabins along the peaceful shores of the Big Horse Creek. They love the people, the peace and tranquility of the rustic setting, and the small town mountain flavor, the pace really slows down when you spend time at this lovely place.

What makes this property unique

Spending the summer nights listening to the water flow down the creek and feeling the cool mountain air from our open bedroom window was relaxing beyond description. There is just so much to see and do in Ashe County. This became our home away from home.
