Charming Colchester Home w/ Malletts Bay Beachfront, WiFi, Gourmet Kitchen, A/C
Enjoy boating, fishing, sandy beach, water sports, and breathtaking views of the sunset from the back porches, beach and a grassy terrace area of a newly built lakefront house located centrally along the eastern shore of Malletts Bay. You will experience the modern comforts and amenities of home while being only a few feet from the beach and your exclusive water access.
Please note that we are a seasonal property, open from June 1 through October 31, but this timing includes great access to fall foliage via interstate 89, from mid-September through mid-October.
Step from the luxury of the cherry wood cabinets and granite countertops of the gourmet kitchen along hardwood floors into a cozy sitting area with a two-sided fireplace as focal point, and then out onto the generous, fully screened and enclosed porch for dinner with a view. The floor plan of this house was ingeniously designed to make you feel as if you are always connected to the waters of the beautiful bay and Lake Champlain. The first floor has a full bath and bedroom; and the porch converts to a sleeping room on the sectional sofa. Two large bedrooms on the second level share a bathroom suite and walkout access to another enclosed porch that has a love seat convertible for additional sleeping space. A spiral staircase leads up to a unique cupola with lookout windows that allow even better views of the bay.
Boat moorings allow ready access to fishing and water sports on the bay or the broad lake. This well-situated property provides convenient access to shopping, great dining, and sightseeing in Burlington just to the south. Hop on the interstate for an easy drive of only 90 minutes to cosmopolitan Montreal or less than an hour to the rustic wonders of Vermont’s central mountains and summer/ski resorts.
This is a seasonal property open from May 1 to October 31.

The house was absolutely gorgeous and the location on the bay was spectacular. Our experience was extremely positive and we thoroughly enjoyed our visit. It was close to many activities.
We loved this house! It was a perfect way for us to celebrate our 60th Birthdays! 4 college friends, 20 plus years of friendship, relaxing on the beach. Beautiful scenery
The property(Pastime) has been one of the best vacations that we as a family truly enjoyed. The summer home is truly beautiful for a family to be together for a week. Kitchen, living area lovely enclosed porch was so comfortable to visit make delicious dinners. Due to weather conditions beach was under water. We did not move into the summer home until Sunday due to problem with hot water heater, By Tuesday we had warm water for showers, dishwasher and washing machine. The children thoroughly enjoyed peddle boat, boards and inflated boards. The week always ends too quickly with beautiful sunsets. Surely will spend another week at PASTIME.
We absolutely LOVED this vacation home! We have taken our vacation as a family the past three summers in VRBO properties in the area and we all agreed that this was the best of them all. The property manager was so nice and couldn't do enough to make us feel so welcome! The house was immaculate, completely stocked with everything we needed, and was actually brighter and roomier than it looked in the pictures. We were so happy that the water level of the lake when we were there allowed us to enjoy the property's private sandy beach. We spent much of our time relaxing in the Adirondack chairs looking out onto the bay during the day and then enjoyed watching the beautiful sunsets from the porch where we ate dinner at night. The "fairy lights" in the porch made the place seem even more magical! We had so much fun using the paddle boards, peddle boat and kayaks and spent much of the time bicycling on the nearby bike path to the causeway. We couldn't have asked for better appliances and the brand new stove is "state of the art"! We're hoping to be able to stay at "Pastime" again in the future.
Pictures on the vrbo site don't do this place justice. It is much nicer inside.
Big plus - Everything that you need to make you feel at home is there. Many times when we go somewhere the home has the second hand stuff from the owners primary home. This place has all top notch stuff - from the cooking (stove, cookware, etc) and cleaning (dishwasher, etc), wifi, bedding, towels, comfortable furniture, everything.
There are 2 enclosed porches (1st and 2nd story) that have windows to the view the lake/bay. It almost feels like you are on a boat and looking out from the porch (even from inside the house making the sunsets and sunrises are gorgeous.
Between 1st story porch and living area there is a fireplace that is open to both sides. Super nice, Super easy to start and takes the chill off when needing it in Sept/Oct.
And for mediation there is like a widows peak on the 3rd floor to look our over the surrounding area.
Even a electric piano on the second story porch.
Was close to beautiful walks, hikes, restaurants/shops in Burlington.
We would definitely come back.
The only 2 things is that the beds are a little short for my sons and I who are 6'2'' plus. and the parking is a little tight as your car is very close to the road and the road is a little scary. But fortunately, since the house is down stairs from the parking and there's a huge wall there, no need to worry about kids or dogs getting near the road once you are down the stairs.
can't say enough.
Reliving summers in Vermont as a child. A celebration of Bob’s 78 birthday remembering good times.
Beautiful, serene, comfortable property. Great kitchen to cook in, great porch for memorable dinners and especially loved the Adirondack chairs on the ledge. The fireplace and the cozy sitting area was perfect for telling all the stories from childhood spent on the beach here. Thank you for sharing this gem.
We loved our stay at Pastime! The house was perfect for our family of 5. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay! House is fully equipped with kitchen supplies, bedding, towels, games, and water toys. The house was a perfect spot for some fun on the lake, relaxation, and a comfortable atmosphere for our family getaway. The owners were very pleasant and easy to work with. We would love to stay again in the future!
Stayed here with 4 adults, 1 toddler, and 1 dog for family vacation. We were very happy with our stay. Location was awesome - right on a calm, shallow, sandy beach, and close to Burlington and other local area attractions. Rick was very responsive throughout, and Laurie (local contact) was very helpful during our stay. Would definitely go back in the future!

Pastime is a lovely, modern, well equipped home
with spectacular views of the lake from 2 porch levels.
There is a sandy beach and a long expanse of shallow water.
The parking was our only challenge because of narrow space
and heavy traffic.

Fantastic week at this gem of a house
Very impressed with this rental. The owners have spared no expense with decorating their home. The walls were decorated with local artist pictures and sayings that made you feel that you were truly welcome to visit their home. The house was very clean. The towels supplied were top quality. They also supplied beach umbrella's, chairs, coolers, etc for using on the beach. The views of the water were just so breathtaking. We loved watching the sun set each night. The full time residents surrounding the house were very pleasant and their caretaker, Laurie was so personable. I will highly recommend this home to my friends and family.

Beautiful home great location!
My family thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this beautiful lakefront home. Furnishings are tasteful and everything was clean and well appointed. The house is truly fully equipped-including nice sheets & towels, coffee filters, salt & pepper and more! It's a nice quick ride into downtown Burlington for shopping and dining. We loved the kayaking during the daytime and firepit at night! We would definitely return on our next trip to visit the Burlington area!

Best Family Vacation Yet!
We spent a week at this beautiful lake home. Our favorite features were the large sun porch overlooking the lake and the gourmet kitchen. We ate on the sun porch every night, played board games out there with the kids, and retreated there when the mosquitoes came out late at night. It is a nice location--only a few minutes from Burlington and close to the bike path. The owners and property manager were very accommodating. I would recommend this house to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway on Lake Champlain.

Lovely, comfortable house in a peaceful location!
The house was if anything, better than the pictures! Very comfortable rooms, all amenities; loved the gourmet kitchen and had every meal on the 3-season porch overlooking the water. The decor was delightful, a major cut above most of our previous rental experiences - felt like staying in a friend's home rather than a rental. We took advantage of the kayaks and the nearby bike path. Plenty of space for 6 adults.

Lovely place, better than the Photos!
This is our third "HomeAway" rental, and it did not disappoint! Place was basically brand new, a beautiful high end kitchen, fantastic gas fireplace and fantastic water views where ever you where. Place was clean and caretaker was wonderful making sure we had everything and got our keys. Owner was easy to work with and coordinate the agreement. We were to early to take advantage of the water, but swimming and boating would be great in the summer. Very close to Burlington, one of our favorite little big cities! Highly recommend!

About the host
Hosted by Richard MacDonald
Much like Ben & Jerry, the owners all moved to Burlington in the late 1970's. The four owners (two couples, Rich and Jacque, Rick and Madeleine) came to Burlington to attend the University of Vermont for undergrad and graduate work. We then met our future spouses there, all while enjoying the great Burlington/UVM student experience, and living on a shoestring. Distant cousins Rich and Madeleine connected there and our foursome were our only local family. Although the years and different jobs have taken us geographically far away, Lake Champlain and the Green Mountains have always felt like home to us all. We welcome you and hope that you enjoy our house. Our friend Laurie who lives nearby and manages the property for us will take good care of you.
Why they chose this property
Waterfront properties on Malletts Bay do not become available very often, so when the chance arose to reconnect on the Pastime property, we were all in accord to go for it. 'Renovations' became a 'rebuild,' to 'new build' through record-breaking flooding and even a hurricane! But it has all been worthwhile when we sit out sipping wine at sunset enjoying the lake and the mountains while connecting with friends and family! Priceless!
What makes this property unique
The original Pastime cottage was located in a wonderful central setting with panoramic views along the eastern shore of the bay, but it was in disrepair, leading to renovation and, eventually, to the necessity of total reconstruction to modern standards. The owners have put much energy and thought into the design and setup of the house, and we all have fallen in love with its charming rooms and pleasant spaces, especially the lovely gourmet kitchen and the enclosed porches that give the feeling of practically being on the beach. We already have many wonderful shared memories of our experiences at Pastime, including a very special wedding on the beach in the summer of 2012. The sunsets on the lake are spectacular and worth the trip at any time of year.
